Story
Hi. My name is Banks and I'm almost 5 years old. I'm one of three Siamese-mix cats in the FIV colony. Many people that come into the adoption room look at me and think, "Oh, he's so handsome." But when they come to see me, I run away and hide. Before I came to the shelter, I spent my whole life in a home that was... well not good. There were a lot, I mean a lot, of cats and we didn't get enough positive human interaction, so we never learned to trust. LAS is the first place I've ever felt safe. When I think about getting adopted, I know that I will need 1) another cat in the home, 2) a home that's quiet and calm, and finally 3) people who are experienced with cats like me. My dream would be that my new family plays with me everyday and gives me canned cat food too! I have a best friend here, Chesney. She's brave and loves to be pet. Maybe she could come home with me? I've made gains with people here, but moving to a new place will be traumatic, so my new family will have to know that it will take me a good while to recover. So, that's me emotionally. Physically, I have something called *FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus). That means I have a reduced immune system. Being POS-FIV, my adopters will just have to take super great care of me, like having nutritious food and 2X year vet visits. FIV positive cats can live long lives with a bit of extra care. I hope you are the person that will give me a forever home. Please come to LAS and talk to the staff about adopting me. I'll be in the Teal adoption room waiting for you! *LAS routinely checks for FIV, as it is a common virus found in cats living outdoors. All of the cats in the Teal adoption room have tested positive for FIV. You cannot catch FIV, and you can't spread it. FIV is only transmitted by blood from one feline to another.

Story
Hi. My name is Indiana and I'm almost 3 years old. When people that come into the adoption room to look at me they often think "Oh, she's so pretty." But then when they come to touch me, I'm nervous and being pet by strangers is just too much. I'm starting to open up to the shelter volunteers and like when they pet me - but it takes a while for me to trust. You see, before I got to the shelter, I lived in a home that was... well not good. There were a lot, I mean a lot, of cats and we didn't get enough positive human interaction, so we never learned to trust. Being here at LAS is the first time I've felt safe in my entire life. And now, I think I'm brave enough to learn to be a real house cat. When I think about getting adopted, I know that I will need 1) another cat in the home, 2) a home that's quiet and calm, and 3) people who are experienced with cats like me. When I get home, please play with me. I love to play, especially with wand toys! And canned cat food is my favorite thing in the whole world! These things have helped me learn to like people. Although I've made good gains with people here, moving to a new place will be traumatic, so my new family will have to know that it will take me a time to recover. So, that's me emotionally. Physically, I have something called *FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus). That means I have a reduced immune system. Story
Hi! I'm Bouncer! I am a very handsome boy, with my big, bright, baby blues. I came from a pretty nasty hoarding situation, so my life hasn't been easy for as long as I can remember. I have a hard time trusting people and letting my guard down. The people at the shelter are very nice and take great care of me! I have a nice warm bed, food in my belly, medical care, playtime, and all the cuddle companions I could ask for. But I'd still love a furrever home of my own! If you are looking for a snuggle buddy and someone you can pick up and hold ... well, honestly, I won't be your boy for that. But if you want a fantastic kitty and can give me patience and time to trust or do my own thing, then I *am* your boy! I may not ever be the lovey-dovey type -- and that's OK -- but I need a human that is OK with that, too. Since I did come from a hoarding situation, I have been around tons of kitties all my life. I would do best going home with another kitty who has been in my situation. I have become really close with River, another kitty at the shelter that also came from that kind of early life. She and I would need to go home together. I would love to spend my days cuddling with her … We can help each other! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Included in our adoption fee, all of our kitties are vaccinated, FELV / FIV tested, dewormed, microchipped, spayed / neutered, and checked out by a veterinarian.

Story
**UPDATE** Sage is a bold and beautiful lady cat. She is bold and confident in her skin. This mamacita is all healed up, feeling good, looking good an ready for her family to come and scoop her up. Sage is extremely loving with people and would make a great therapy or emotional support animal. She is so devoted to her humans that she has made it clear, she would rather be around humans than animals. Sage prefers calm cats and dogs that keep to themselves but would ideally prefer to be the only cat in the home. While under our care Sage has shed a few pounds, is in the best post baby shape of her life, she has no current flare ups with her skin issues and is in a good place. We think Sage would do great in a home with older considerate kids and someone with Siamese cat experience. (It is a plus but not a requirement) Below is some more info on Sage and a previous bio that documented how she was when first she came to the rescue. Are you the family this mama has been waiting for?? This little sweetheart was relinquished to us in urgent need of medical care. She suffers from an illness that is still a bit of a mystery as to what truly causes it : Eosinophilic Granuloma Complex. What that means for Sage is that she can have flareups throughout the years and they may appear on her belly as you’ll see in the pictures and they may appear on her face. Right now we have treated it with good results. She is wearing a little bodysuit to keep her from licking the lesions on her belly, but they have minimized tremendously and are healing very well. Sage may have flareups throughout the years, but with good care, a cleanly environment and keeping up with a veterinarian one can keep these flareups at bay. This condition is not contagious, it’s more of an auto immune disorder where a cats immune system has a severe allergic reaction to different types of bacteria that are commonly found in fleas or even on rodents. Therefore, a clean environment will help a lot in the treatment of this illness. Sage has a very lovely personality. She is very affectionate, she loves people and prefers older children that are gentle with her. Sage would do best in a home that has experience with Siamese cats and may even understand this illness. She would do fine with calm dogs and cats, but would really prefer to just have loving humans surround her. Sage is a mama that birthed plenty of litters in her hay day and is finally spayed and no longer has to deal with that, hallelujah! She will be up-to-date on her shots, once her flareups finally relax and her immune system can take a vaccination. She doesn’t have any worms and is healthy otherwise. We believe that she is around six years old. Please reach out if you are interested in learning more about sage, or have questions about her. Please contact us to learn more. Story
I lived with small dogs and cats. My family said that I really enjoy cuddling with cats. They said I was a quiet, affectionate and easy-going cat. Losing my family took a toll on me. So while most people would think I am mean, here they immediately knew that I was just really scared. I am starting to open up thanks to the patience and dedication of staff and volunteers and hope that people interested in me will go beyond the first impression. Everyone is allowed to shine when they are ready and that’s all I am asking. If you have the patience and are willing to take it slow, then please make sure to ask about me as I am not one of the “greeters”.
