Story
Hi, I’m Hobbes and I want to share my story. I was in a home before I was surrendered to Texas CARES. It was my one and only home and I was the star of the house, that is, until my family had a baby. After that, it seems I was set aside. The wonderful people at Texas CARES took me into their rescue but that is not where my story ends. You see, I am a very special boy and have had some pretty big ups and downs. In my foster home, I was having such a time using my litter box and no one could seem to figure out why I was going outside of it. They took me to the vet, where they ran tests and more tests. That wasn’t fun, because I am not a huge fan of going into the carrier (I told foster mom all about it on the ride) but I knew it was for my own good. My foster mom, along with the medical team, tried several different things. My food was changed, my foster mom used extra litter boxes but I still would go outside the box. There was even a time where I heard talk of euthanasia. I’m not sure what that is but it sure didn’t sound good! I know my foster mom was so frustrated and really wanted to help me but it was tough. Finally, foster mom and the medical team, along with the vets, started me on some different antibiotics and some medicine to help with my mental state. This seemed to be what was needed for me because it has been 5 whole months! and I have gone in the litter box each and every time I need to go! So you see, it took a little time but I am finally ready to seek out a forever home. I will have to be on my special food, which helps prevent crystals in my urine, and I may have to be on my mental meds long term but I take them like a champ. In fact, I don’t even think it’s medicine because it looks and tastes like a chicken treat. I enjoy my prescription food as well! I do get along with dogs and I have met my foster moms cats but honestly, I’d probably prefer just to have my very own human to myself. I won’t be going up to the adoption center, so if you’d like to meet me and have a chat, my foster family will make arrangements for you to meet me! I really hope you will take a chance on me because I am a really wonderful boy and I am ready to be your best friend!  Medical:  Special Diet - He is now on CD Urinary food both dry and wet. Fluoxetine - Compounded Treat Chews - ordered monthly and delivered to his home. April 25, 2024, 7:39 pm

Story
Penelope is a sweet 9 yr old cat I adopted from petsmart 7 years ago. She loves to lounge around her person and get rubs. Although a little older she still likes to play but napping/lounging is her favorite thing to do. She likes to explore outside and hunt bugs. She's well trained and likes her litter box cleaned regularly. She likes people but doesn't know how to manage little kids or other cats. She's the perfect cat for someone who has a quiet lifestyle.

These pups are in Garland, Texas too!

Story
*SPECIAL NEEDS* This is Jonah, a most handsome 2 year old Seal Point Siamese mix male. Jonah was living as a stray outside at an apartment complex. He and some of his good buddies were being fed by a good Samaritan. The lady that fed him thought he was too nice to be living outdoors, so she contacted NBCR for help finding Jonah a home. We are very glad she did! Jonah is extremely shy when you first meet him, but he gradually warms up to you and enjoys getting pets and ear rubs, and will purr in gratitude. He sure seems to like life on the inside, with a steady supply of food and naps. Jonah has tested positive for both the FIV and feline leukemia virus. Both are viruses that can impact longevity, mainly the leukemia virus. To be clear, he does not have leukemia, but carries the virus that may cause cancer in the future. Cats with this virus generally don't live a long life, maybe up to 5-6 years, although we've known a few cats that have lived to be 8 years old. (Please see links below for more resources.) Jonah is currently healthy and feeling well, and had no problem recovering from his neuter surgery or receiving vaccinations. He doesn't currently require any medication and, for the foreseeable future, should be able to live life just like a regular cat. He's a good-natured boy that take it all in stride! Jonah is microchipped and currently in a foster home. His adoption fee is $105.
