Story
Meet Love, a 4½-year-old large Spaniel mix with a gentle soul who`s looking for someone willing to let her bloom at her own pace. New people can be a little intimidating for Love, and she may be shy when you first meet her, but with a little patience and kindness, she warms up surprisingly quickly and lets her sweet personality shine.Love truly enjoys the company of other calm, friendly dogs and would likely thrive with a respectful canine companion who can help boost her confidence. She`s happiest around easygoing friends and would love a home that matches her relaxed personality. Because she can be sensitive to new situations, Love is looking for an adult-only home where she can settle in without the hustle and bustle of young children. With slow, proper introductions, she may also do well with a dog-savvy cat.Like many Spaniels, Love arrived at the shelter with a double ear infection. While this may have simply been a one-time issue, her breed and those thick, floppy ears make her more prone to developing ear infections throughout her life. Her new family should be comfortable monitoring her ears, keeping them clean and dry, and working with their veterinarian if ear issues arise in the future. If you`re looking for a loyal companion who just needs a little time to trust, Love is ready to show you just how deserving of her name she is. Give her a chance, and you`ll gain a devoted best friend who will happily spend her days by your side.

Story
Corky ❤️ A Sweet Boy Just Waiting to Feel Safe Corky is a handsome little poodle mix, who is about a year old and weighing 53 pounds, has been through a pretty big change in his young life. Corky and his brothers were left behind at a cabin when the renter moved away. For these dogs, that cabin and the life they knew was their entire world — and suddenly, everything familiar was gone. The man who raised them just disappeared and abandoned them. Because of that, Corky is understandably very shy when he is in a new or unfamiliar situation. New places, new people, and especially busy environments can be overwhelming for him here in his first week of being away from the original place he was born. If you take the time to slow down and let Corky figure things out at his own pace, you begin to see a completely different dog. Once Corky honestly settles in and realizes he is safe, he is an incredibly sweet boy. When we met him in a setting where he felt more comfortable, he was friendly and gentle. The shy behavior we see in unfamiliar places isn't who Corky is at his heart — it's simply how he copes when he isn't sure what is happening around him. Corky has lived with other dogs, including his dad and brothers, and seems comfortable having canine companionship around him. He enjoyed being outside and having the familiar routine of his previous life. We think another confident, friendly dog could potentially be a wonderful companion for him as he learns to trust and experience new things. Please don't let his initial shyness fool you — this boy is smart! Corky is very trainable and has so much potential. With patience, consistency, positive reinforcement, and someone willing to celebrate the little victories, we believe his confidence will continue to grow. He may need a little extra time in the beginning, but every step forward will be worth it.   At the vet, Corky is especially shy and overwhelmed, which isn't surprising given everything that is new to him. But when he is somewhere he feels comfortable, we see that sweet personality starting to emerge. He just needs someone who understands that trust isn't built overnight.   Corky will do best with an adopter who is willing to support him on his journey rather than expect him to immediately be the confident, outgoing dog he may eventually become. He needs someone patient and kind, someone who will give him a safe place to decompress, a predictable routine, and plenty of encouragement. There is something especially rewarding about watching a shy dog realize that he is finally home. We believe Corky has the potential to become a wonderful, loving companion once he has the security and stability he has been missing. He didn't choose to be left behind. He didn't choose to have his whole world change. But with the right person beside him, Corky can learn that the next chapter of his life can be so much better than the first.    Corky is looking for someone who will give him the time, patience, and love he needs to blossom. In return, we think he will give you something pretty special — the joy of watching a sweet, smart little dog finally discover that he is safe, loved, and home.  Please contact Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com if you are interested in being the lifechanging person and family in Corky's life. Story
James was adopted into a home with other dogs but is having difficulty with sharing the home. His adopter has made the difficult decision to rehome James. He is a 2 year old Poodle/Doberman/Akita. He is neutered and was just seen at the vet for a check up. When asked to describe James, we were told he is loving, playful and quick to learn. If you are looking to add an easy companion who prefers the company of people over other animals, send us an email at support@almosthomeri.org We are asking a donation be made to the rescue in lieu of our standard adoption fee.

Story
Meet Holmes 🐾 If you’re looking for the perfect combination of playful, goofy, and incredibly affectionate, Holmes just might be your guy! This handsome 5-year-old cream Standard Poodle is a total love bug with a heart as big as his fluffy paws. Holmes is happiest when he’s carrying around one of his favorite soft toys, chasing a tennis ball, or soaking up all the cuddles he can get. He’s the larger of the two brothers, but underneath all that fluff is an absolute sweetheart who simply wants to be loved. Holmes is a smart cookie, too! He’s food motivated and eager to learn, already mastering commands like sit and shake, while quickly picking up new skills like leave it, down, stay, and look at me. He’s discovering that learning is fun—especially when treats are involved! His favorite pastime? Playtime! Holmes loves fetch, tug-of-war, squeaky toys, and anything involving a tennis ball. Once he’s gotten his zoomies out, he’s perfectly content to curl up on his bed for a nap. One of his most endearing quirks is the dramatic, hilarious groans he lets out as he settles in to relax—you can’t help but laugh every time! Holmes is house trained, crate trained, rides beautifully in the car, and is a polite gentleman around other dogs. He happily shares toys and food with both his brother and his foster sibling and has wonderful manners in the home. While leash walking is still new to him, he’s making great progress every day and will thrive with a family willing to continue building his confidence. Most of all, Holmes adores his people. He’ll lean into you for pets, greet you every morning with a wagging tail, and remind you daily just how much love one dog can have. Holmes shares a very special bond with his brother, Watson. The boys look for one another when they’re apart and truly enjoy life’s adventures together. They would love nothing more than to find a forever family willing to keep this sweet duo together. If your home could use a little more laughter, a lot more love, and endless cuddles, Holmes is ready to fill that role beautifully.
