Story
Nicolas is a 1-2 year old Terrier mix, likely with some Yorkie. He found himself at Beeville Animal Control after a Good Samaritan witnessed him being abused by unhoused person. Unfortunately this sweetie sat there for two weeks and nobody claimed him. Since they only have 5-6 kennels he would quickly lose his spot be euthanized for space, so our rescuer stepped in and saved him. Nicolas is very playful and just wants to play all the time. We think he would be best in an active household and would benefit from a canine brother or sister, or two. He does have an off switch when you put him in his kennel. He can be submissive with other dogs but is a rough, vocal player. He has an affinity for squeaky toys, perhaps too much? This good boy is good on leash, good with kids, and would make a great apartment dog. He does wear a belly band and does great with it! He needs to be monitored outside or he will dig a hole to freedom! Our best guess is that Nicolas is perhaps a Yorkshire Terrier mix (he's bigger than a full Yorkie)- but playing 'guess the breed,' for street dogs is really hard! Nicolas has traveled up from San Antonio, Texas, for a new life in the sunshine and mountains of Colorado! He is being fostered in Denver, available to meet! ***Nicolas is being posted on behalf of our partner rescue in Texas- the process and adoption will go through them. The adoption fee does not include the transport fee (usually $125-200/dog).*** Red Fern Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit foster-based animal rescue in Denver that saves animals from abandonment and neglect in South Texas for new lives in Colorado. We primarily rescue dogs off the streets and from kill shelters in San Antonio. ##2614911##

Story
** If you are interested in adopting Lucy please fill out our adoption application at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ ** Meet Lucy! Lucy is an adorable, 11 year old, 9lb Yorkie/Schnauzer mix with the sweetest face and a gentle, loving personality to match. This precious little senior girl found herself in a shelter after her beloved owner sadly passed away, and now she’s looking for a soft landing and a forever home where she can be cherished once again. Lucy is everything people love about little senior dogs — calm, affectionate, easygoing, and incredibly sweet. She is friendly with everyone she meets and has a warm, comforting presence that makes people instantly fall in love with her. Lucy enjoys being near her people, whether that’s following you around the house, curling up beside you on the couch, or snoozing peacefully in a cozy dog bed nearby. She’s also wonderful with other dogs and has a gentle, social nature around them. Lucy would likely do great in a home with another calm, friendly pup, but she’d also be perfectly happy soaking up all the love and attention as your one and only little companion. We are guessing / assuming that Lucy is potty trained, as she came from a loving home. However, we will confirm this once she gets into / settles into a foster home with us. At just 9 pounds, Lucy is tiny, portable, and easy to bring along wherever life takes you. She would love a quieter home where she can settle in comfortably and enjoy the simple things — short walks, sunny spots for naps, cozy blankets, and lots of love. After losing the only home she knew, Lucy deserves stability, patience, and a family that understands just how special senior dogs are. Senior dogs have a way of loving deeply and appreciating every bit of kindness they’re given, and Lucy is no exception. She still has so much love, companionship, and sweetness to offer her future family. We know there’s someone out there looking for a loyal little shadow just like her. We'd like to place Lucy in a home where she'll get consistent stimulation, exercise and love. A (virtual or in-person) positive reinforcement training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence. Training is so important in the future behaviors of every dog. It's for this reason that we're unwilling to adopt to a family that doesn't make this loving choice. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of both in-person and virtual positive reinforcement / force- free trainers in your area. Lucy is up to date on her vaccinations, has been fully vetted, is healthy, heartworm negative, and is spayed. Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial. Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out ~400 dogs each year. Applications are currently being accepted for our wonderful pup. If interested in this gorgeous, very cuddly/sweet and loving best friend, please fill out an application completely at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting from us, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
