Story
Meet Hanes and Her Undercover Crew! When it comes to comfort, style, and unconditional love, no one does it better than Hanes — our devoted momma dog with a heart as soft as cotton and a spirit that stretches to fit every situation. She’s raised six snug-as-a-bug pups who are ready to slip into your life and never ride up. Hanes is a great little momma and a sweet heart herself. She is about 20 lbs, so a perfect size, not too big and not too small.  Hanes will be ready for her forever homes when her puppies are weaned and she is able to be spayed, estimated about December 13. Hanes can be pre-adopted in advance if you want to get dibs on her. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2555653##

Story
HIGHLIGHTS: -Requires another confident dog established in the home- Meet Baxter – A Gentle Little Guy Looking for a Calm Home Baxter is a 3-year-old Yorkshire Terrier weighing 9.2 pounds. He is a timid, sensitive boy who is still learning to feel safe and confident in new environments. He can be nervous at first, especially around unfamiliar people or situations, and will do best with someone who understands that trust takes time. A quiet home with a predictable routine will help Baxter feel secure and allow his personality to slowly unfold. With patience, reassurance, and a lot of kindness, Baxter has the potential to become a loyal and loving companion who bonds deeply with his person once he learns he is safe. ---------- Before being rescued, many of our dogs had limited socialization, so they may need some time to adjust to life as a family pet. Older kids are often a great fit for our dogs, and homes with younger children will be considered based on each dog's individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may take a little extra patience and practice. However, with understanding and a gentle hand, most of these dogs adapt quite quickly. Being a part of their rehabilitation is a truly rewarding experience. To learn more about mill dogs and start the adoption process, visit our website!

Story
Cricket is a loving, sweet dog with a sometimes playful personality. She is 12 years old and has been having health issues. She has allergies that are best handled with quarterly allergy injections. She has a fungul infection that has been hard to get rid of even with bathing her in proper shampoos. She requires a good amount of attention. She is house trained but will have occasional accidents if left alone too long without going outside. We adopted her when more of our kids are at home. Our last two boys are busy in high school and we work. We have limited time to give to her and in addition she does require more attention due to some health issues. We do not have the time to properly care for her. It’s very hard to put her up for adoption but I know it is best. Will keep her as long as I need to until she can find a proper home.
