Story
Awwooooo!!! Adopt me!   LAKOTA is an affectionate, gentle, playful (and at first - a little bit shy). but is now available for adoption to the public!!   Background: Lakota was picked up as a stray on 7/27 and brought to a shelter. He was thin and leggy, and originally thought to be a wolf hybrid (and therefore rescue only to wolf-sanctuaries). He stole our heart and we advocated for him by presenting info to the staff which gave them the resources to properly phenotype him. We also presented his photos & videos to other rescue groups that specialize in Northern breeds who also weighed in. Our favorite, wolf-sanctuary-sister-rescue and friend, Dr. Lorin Linder, Ph.D., MPH. of Lockwood Animal Rescue Center also reviewed the photos/videos and provided her expert opinion to the shelter. He's now been properly labeled as an Alaskan Malamute mix and because of his lovely, friendly temperament, can become the forever companion to a very lucky person or family.   Despite all of Lakota's people-friendly qualities, Lakota is reactive to other dogs so only adopters with experience with strong, Northern breed dogs will be considered, and he will not be placed in a home with other dogs or pets. Sammy IS AVAILALBE (updated 09-17-2025).To meet any of our dogs you must first complete our online adoption application on our website. For more information and the adoption application for Sammy, please visit our website belowhttp://www.coastalgsr.org/dog_profile.php?ID=22667&name=SammySammy was found wandering alone, wearing a black harness attached to a white leash. People had previously seen him being walked by an elderly man near Del High Park, but no one could find that gentleman and Sammy was taken to the shelter. He was checked in, given an impound number and sat there waiting for his family to find him. His time was running out, no one came for him, and the shelter had now given him a euthanasia date. We rescued Sammy and put up signs in the area in which he was found, hoping his owner would see them, but no one ever responded. This super fluffy guy with the biscuit paws is thought to be around 4-5 years old and isnâ&#194&#128&#194&#153t a high maintenance diva. Heâ&#194&#128&#194&#153s been through so much already and we would love nothing more than to help him find his forever family! Sammy loves to play with toys and with entertain himself or play with you!The minimum adoption donation for adults is $375 and the adoption donation for puppies is $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible. The adoption donation provides that all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis ( i.e., puppies who will need to be altered by 6 mos old). Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.September 17, 2025, 8:36 am

Bonded with Batgirl (A136383). Barely a #shelterselfie with another bonded pair Echelon (blonde, M) and Batgirl (fuzzy, F).They are both aged at 8yrs old, and share the energy of having nothing to prove to anyoneanymore (Hazzah to that!). They both loved making new friends and using their time in the yard to get pets from any available hands. They exude happiness and love and absolutely find safety in being with each other. Batgirl is a bit goofier and more curious, with Echelon being a bit more chill and casual, but equally determined to get some attention. They`ll do well in just about anyhome environment, and don`t need a ton of exercise to be happy. Some long walks and an occasional bout of play is about all they`ll need. Echelon has some very classic `dog` goodlooks. Batgirl looks a bit like a very skilled drawing come to life. They`re both incredibly sweet and fun and will be excellent buddies to watch TV on the couch with at the end of every day. These hard to resist fluff balls will make any family more complete- so if that sounds good toyou, head into #burbankanimalshelter and meet this dynamite duo for yourself!

Story
This young guy is super fun and a total looker. He’s an athlete for sure….. he just may not know the rules of the game….. but he’s super up to learn! He is really friendly and eager to play, but also just loves getting attention (treats are good too) and knowing what was going on. He seems to be an Akita mix and definitely has that Akita attentiveness. He’s a nice mid size (much smaller than a standard Akita) and has a medium level of fluff. He will need regular brushing to maintain that fluff, and regular exercise to manage his play level. In return, he will be your absolute bestie forever! You will never have a better bestie than him! You also will have a dog photo for any occasion at the ready on your camera roll cuz you’re gonna take so many pictures of this heartbreaker. Tonga will need some basic training and a nice consistent walk/ exercise/play routine. From Tonga`s Day Hike Foster on 9/15/25Tonga was great today. Like Stacie said, he’s a little wild at first but calms down. He seemed to enjoy the car ride. He loved all the scents on the hike and loved leaving his own scent in return! We saw a deer and he didn’t freak out. We walked past several other dogs and he was slightly reactive to the first but then was much calmer as we passed the others later in the hike. He was easy on leash. These are the best of the pictures that I got. from hike in Oct 2025Holy smokes, what a fantastic dog! Tonga is a great little buddy. Get him out of the shelter and he shines. He sniffs and pulls and pees on everything (`I`m peeing in nature, y`all!`), but once he realizes that this is a walk that will last more than 20 minutes, he hits a dignified stride. Tonga is incredibly smart, and I suspect he knows more words than the average 5 year old. He pulled a lot, especially early on, but he is an obedient dog and eventually mellowed out. He is a playgroup all star, and this showed throughout the 2-hour plus walk. He was not reactive to other dogs, was chill with people, and didn`t lunge at cyclists (like a certain lady I know). I decided to trust him to enter Romancing the Bean for a coffee, and I held onto the traffic loop to be safe (`You are peeing in this cafe over my dead body!`). No issues at all. He seems to understand that good boys do not urinate inside and he is most definitely a good boy.
