Kallan Rua is being fostered in TN. she is so smart she is now potty trained! Vision Update: 1/16/26 Originally we thought she just had ulcers and they were healed with some vision loss...we have since found that she has no vision in her left eye and has developed primary glaucoma... she is currently being treated with 2x daily eye drops which are very affordable and tolerating it very well. She is expected to eventually need that eye removed if she no longer responds to the eye drops in the future. The glaucoma is hereditary and could move to the right eye as well. She is currently normal and happy and still sees shadows in her right eye. Her weight is now 8.7 lbs. Kallan Rua ( cowl-lawn roo_ah) lives up to her Irish name as a brave warrior and a strong ginger haired girl!!! At 8.5 weeks she has the biggest personality, she is playful and LOVES her toys, she is absolutely adorable and so smart. She loves praise. She is 10000% a lap puppy and was bottle fed so all she wants is to cuddle and be held and kissed. She is fantastic with the foster mom's two dogs ( although she is too young to really play and interact yet) and shows only gentle interest in cats. She has yet to meet a person she has not loved or a lap she does not want to be in. Kallen is a typical puppy, curious about everything, playful, and absolutely full of mischief. She doesn't walk...she leaps from place to place exploding with joy... and every adventure is better than the next as far as she is concerned. She has no fear and shows no issues with her limited vision. She does not run into anything and can see well enough to navigate her world perfectly. Foster home is currently crate training and working on basic commands. She is so smart and only wants to please!!! BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.

ABOUT ZEUS Zeus came to HAP in July after his owner passed away. At 7 years old, adjusting to shelter life after living in a loving home has been difficult for him. Shortly after his arrival, Zeus began experiencing concerning symptoms, including vomiting, loss of appetite, and bloody stool. He was referred to Wilmington Animal Hospital for further evaluation and advanced testing, where an ultrasound revealed a mass on his spleen. Zeus has since undergone a splenectomy, an important surgery that will allow him to live a happier, pain-free life. Following his procedure, Zeus was placed into a loving foster home where he can relax, heal, and recover in a calm, comfortable environment. This peaceful setting is exactly what he needs to regain his strength and emotional well-being after everything he’s been through! Zeus is a laid-back, low-key senior pup who enjoys chewing on bones, soaking up attention, and going for short walks. He is friendly with new people, easily won over by treats, and very affectionate. He enjoys long car rides, showing off his tricks, and melting into his friends for love! Given his age and size, Zeus is a low-maintenance companion who spends most of his day lounging or napping!
