Story
Sweet sweet Tinka, a shy and scared gal who has won over the hearts of her volunteer friends! Tinka first showed up at the shelter as a stray, although she had identification on her indicating that she once had an owner. Unfortunately, no owner was ever tracked down. Tinka now waits for her forever home in the scary shelter but she's doing her best to be brave! She has shown she warms up with her human and dog pals.
Tinka is now available for adoption at ACCT Philly. You can meet her any day from 10am-6pm.

Behavior:
Per volunteer 10/9/24: Sweet Tinka! Me and Tinka had a bit of a breakthrough with each other on 10/9. I found Tinka at the back of her kennel shaking as she is so scared in there. I opened her kennel fully and sat down and Tinka came right up to me. I was able to easily leash her without a problem and she walked right out of her kennel. Tinka is so so so good on leash with minimal pulling. She really only pulls when she is nervous or scared. I was so proud of her as she has come out of her shell since I last had her out at the photoshoot. I was able to get some tail wags from her which was such a accomplishment as last time she was super nervous and stayed away for the most part. This time I was able to pet her as she came to me with her tail wagging. I even sent in a video of her having some cute zoomies! Tinka does not like going back into the shelter and is really nervous about going back in. She actually will stop walking when she knows you're going back in and try to pull back. Other volunteers had said taking her down a quieter hallway works but unfortunately it didn't work for me. I had a staff member try and double loop her with me but it was just not going well. Instead I decided to try and pick her up. She allowed me to do it with no issues and I carried her back to her kennel.
Per Staff 10/9/24:
Volunteer noted that she would not walk back to kennel, but allowed the volunteer to be picked up and placed back in kennel
Per 10/7/24:
Tinka definitely has the stubbornness of a bulldog. When coming back inside from a dog meet, she refused to walk in the direction I wanted to go, so we went back in a different entrance and walked alright through the lobby and kennels. When we got to the end of her kennel row, she put the brakes on and started whipping around a bit (very slowly). I was able to get her moving with some leash pressure and she returned to the kennel itself easily. I removed my leash from over her head with no problems.
When I got her out of kennel, she was trembling, but was easy to leash.
Per Volunteer 10/6/24:
"She is so sweet but so shy and scared. Tinka was with me for about an hour and was so good and patient! The photographers and everyone who met her absolutely fell in love with her. She was the first dog to start the photoshoot and did great! From the time that i first took her out until the end she really came out of her shell. When shes in her kennel She cowers in the back and as soon as you open it up she starts shaking, but she does allow you to leash her and once you do she gets right up to go out. When she was out with me once she found out I had treats we became friends. She let us put a costume on her with no issue and by the end that was her photoshoot. She was so patient and good while the photographers got some great shots of her. Getting her back in her kennel she was really nervous and kept trying to pull back and out so to get her in her kennel safely I asked for staffs help so she didn't hurt herself."
Per Staff 10/4/24:
Took Tinka for a walk without issue. She remains highly stressed, though, trembling at all points of the interaction - especially in her kennel, but also at various times during the walk and in the play yard - and displaying lots of fearful/appeasing body language (hunched posture, tucked tail, ears back, lip licking, lurking around fences exploring for exits, checking in with me on the walk and in the yard but not soliciting attention). She took a few meaty treats from me when offered but didn't seek out more. She resisted going back into her kennel but hopped in when I stepped in all the way.
Per Staff 10/3/24:
Tinka is such a sweet, shy girl! I initially went to Tinka's kennel so I could double check her collar for owner information (unfortunately collar has no tags or info). Tinka was fearful and trembling in the center of her kennel, curled into a ball. I dropped the divider door and Tinka came up to the kennel door. When I opened the kennel door, she moved to the back of the kennel but I was able to leash her easily with a big loop. She exited the kennel with ease and walked outside with me. Walks well on leash, minimal pulling, though a bit nervous of her surroundings. Initially in the play yard Tinka sat about 6 feet away from me, panting with ears back. After several minutes she came by and sniffed me. She then allowed me to sit on the ground next to her and pet her back gently. Becca then entered the play yard, Tinka initially watched Becca from across the run but then came up to her to sniff and allowed all handling from Becca including back, belly, legs, feet, ears. She seemed a little sensitive of her hind end, possibly due to some skin irritation and fleas in that area. Tinka also met another low-energy female dog named Lovely, and the two did extremely well together! Their personalities seem to be a good match, as they are both on the shy side but greeted each other nicely and were content to just hang out together.
Per Staff 10/3/24:
BEHAVIOR EVALUATION: Tinka
KNOWN HISTORY:
Stray
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Tinka was scared in the front of her kennel and ran away from the handler so the handler closed the divider and went to the other side. She was then nervous but easy to leash and came right out but tried to run away from the handler.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls minimally - fearful and walks very slowly
HANDLING:
Once outside for her eval Tinka was very nervous but solicited for comfort and attention. She was tolerant of all touch but was a little sensitive on the top of her butt area due to flea bites and old scarring. She did some cute tail wags and open mouth smiles for a baby voice and pats and warmed up alot overtime while the handler just sat there with her. She is a very observant dog and likes to sit there, cuddle and people watch. She solicited for some more pets and cuddles but prefers to come up to you rather than you directly going up to her. She loves to sit next to you and leans into your legs.
