Story
Kahlua is a 6-year-old Pit Bull Terrier looking for a loving, calm home where she can be the only dog. She is a total people-dog and has been wonderful with children, including a 5-year-old and an 18-month-old. She’s gentle, affectionate, and loves being part of a family. She is not spayed and would thrive with an adopter who understands bully breeds and can give her the love, structure, and stability she deserves. She would be a great fit for someone looking for a loyal, people-focused companion.

Story
Oh Henley! Henley came to MHCR as part of a multi-dog group that was surrendered to the shelter in Roswell, NM by a backyard breeder. They were said to be great dane/pit mixes. Sweet Henley never broke 50 lbs – it seems the only thing dane about her is possibly her merle coat. Henley was an extremely shut down pup. She didn’t see much (if any) human kindness in her early days. She gets her confidence and comfort from the canine companions around her. Since entering foster care, Henley has had so much growth. She happily takes car rides now (and gets super excited to go). She also walks well on a leash. She can be found wrestling with her foster siblings or snoozing on the couch after a play session. Henley is crate trained (loves her kennel) and doggie door trained. She’s a one-woman type o’ gal and is looking for a human that also has a slight aversion to other human beings and visitors. When she settles in, she will provide lots of love and comfort, but she finds it difficult to settle into multi-human homes. Multi dog homes? Not an issue! That’s her jam! Henley is 1.5 years old. Henley is being fostered in Aurora, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs. * You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/henley/. Story
Buck is a 5-month-old male pit mix who can best be described as a big, clunky meatball with a heart to match. He’s dog-friendly and brings classic “annoying little brother” energy—he’d love a canine buddy to play with, but he’d also be perfectly happy soaking up attention as your one and only. Buck loves toys and is borderline obsessed with fetch… at least until his lazy-bones side kicks in and he decides it’s nap time. When he sleeps, you’ll know it—this guy snores like a champion. He’s smart, curious, and impressively patient for such a young pup. He’s fantastic with kids and very gentle, though still a bit mouthy in that typical puppy way. Buck is crate trained and doing great with house training, improving every day. With his sweet nature, goofy personality, and solid training foundation, Buck is ready to be a fun, loving addition to a lucky home. Buck is in foster in Colorado Springs, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs. * You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/buck You can apply for our wonderful dogs at https://www.milehighcanine.org/adopt/adoption-application/.

Story
Hi, I my name is December and I am an adorable little guy! My photo makes me look much bigger and more serious than I really am. I am still a fuzzy, floppy puppy. I am a super playful dude who loves his toys and playing with my siblings and the adult dogs in my foster home. But what I love most is PEOPLE!! I am pretty obessed with the little kids in my home and my foster mama, well, following her around is a hobby of mine. After a good play session, I enjoy snuggling on the couch with my foster family. I was born on October 19th and am now 12 weeks old. I am came to Colorado from a high-kill shelter in Houston, TX when I was 4 weeks old with my mama and siblings. I have been socialized with people ever since. Did I mention I am a super smart boy? I am already crate trained and working hard on house breaking. I already use the dog door. My mama (who is the sweetest dog) is just 45lbs, so I will probably be around a 45-50lb medium sized dog. And as for my breed? And as for my breed? A DNA test of one of my siblings say I am a Staffordshire terrier mix…mixed with 10 other breeds!! I have my mama’s ears! I am sooo soft!!! If you are looking for a people focused puppy who loves to play and then hard core snuggle, I am your guy! I would love to find my forever family where I can go on walks or hikes, play with people and even other dogs. Is that you? Story
"Sweet Gina is a 1.5 year old pit mix. She was all set to be the luckiest girl in the world in the fall of 2024. She was a young pup, weighing 11 lbs at only 2 months old. She was adopted and just certain her new family would spoil her rotten. Unfortunately, that’s not at all what happened. Gina was confiscated a year later after animal control was called to her home. They found she was living in horrid conditions, suffering from extreme neglect. In a years time, she had only gained 15 lbs — weighing just 24 lbs upon her re-entry to the shelter now at a year and a half old. What’s worse? Now she was facing euthanasia. We just couldn’t let this be the end of Gina’s story and luckily one of our foster homes agreed! Gina packed her bags and headed to Colorado. We are happy to report, she now weighs 42 lbs. She’s happy, she’s playful, and although she can be a little shy, she has started to regain her trust in humans. Gina’s foster mom says she’s great with other dogs, uses the doggie door, and has found her crate to be a safe haven once again and no longer a dismal place of fear and despair. In fact, she says she’s 100% dogtastic!" Gina is being fostered in Aurora, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs.* You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/gina/. Story
Chunk is a 60 lbs, 5 year old bully mix that joined MHCR in September of 2024. He’s short in stature, big in personality, and commits to his humans for life. Chunk made a canine buddy while in foster care and they spent over a year together before she was recently adopted. Now he is alone. Chunk LOVED playing with her. Their acclimation was slow and steady overtime, though. That’s the way Chunk likes it. He isn’t a kiss on the first date kind of guy; more like the 100th. As such, he’s looking for a cat and canine free home with hermit-ish humans. Walks make him act a fool, car rides aren’t his jam; he wants homebody humans looking for a loyal, silly, companion. Oh! They must also have a crate for him, it’s his safe space. Chunk is a very sweet, loving, extroverted boy with people, and especially when snacks are involved. He’s very chill, low maintenance, and quiet when he settles into a place and understands there are no ongoing threats lurking about. He likes limited play time but mostly is low energy and likes multiple daily naps, snuggles, and sunbathing. He sleeps through the night and is crate and housetrained. He likes baths and is a gentleman in the tub. He lets his little human foster sisters dress him up. He has not been aggressive with people in any manner, even for veterinary visits and ‘scary’ 🙄 nail trims. He’s physically healthy and Iikes to keep his teeth clean with dental chews and sticks. His personality, quirks, and uniqueness know no bounds, and to know him is to know a little splash of comedy and resilience related to enjoying life after darkness. He’s a cute low rider clunker blockhead tank and class clown. Chunk is a constant reminder that saving one dog doesn’t change the world, but it does change the world for that dog. Chunk is in foster in Fort Collins, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs. * You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/chunk You can apply for our wonderful dogs at https://www.milehighcanine.org/adopt/adoption-application/.
