Story
Posie is a beautiful, intelligent dog who’s been working hard on her training for several months and has made great strides with the help of a dedicated trainer. She is looking for a very specific kind of home—one where her boundaries are respected, her training is maintained, and her environment is predictable and safe.Posie is not a dog-park kind of girl. She can be resource aggressive with both dogs and humans, especially around food, toys, and even people she bonds with. She requires strict management and supervision around other animals and should never be left alone with other pets. For this reason, she will thrive best as the only dog in the home. While Posie has slowly learned to tolerate and even bond with her trainer’s dogs, that process took over a month and still requires careful attention to avoid conflicts. Her ideal adopter will be someone committed to continuing her structured training using tools like a remote collar and positive reinforcement, especially in public or off-leash environments. When her training is followed, she does beautifully on leash and can pass other people and animals calmly and confidently.Because Posie can be reactive with humans over resources as well, she needs an adult-only home with dog-savvy adopters who understand how to read canine behavior and are comfortable managing a dog with strong opinions and boundaries.Posie is not the dog for every home—but for the right person, she will be an incredibly loyal, loving, and rewarding companion. If you're experienced, patient, and ready to continue her training and give her the structure she needs, Posie will return your dedication with endless heart. We are committed to finding the perfect match for Posie to set her—and her future family—up for success. If you're interested, we’d love to talk and set up a time for you to meet her with guidance from her trainer. Check me out https://www.instagram.com/reel/DIZRDwAxIy0/?igsh=cHN5YzVtNnNlbTB3 I'm around 6 years old and 40lbs and have been waiting for my forever home for 560+ days.  ##1953751##

Story
Henry is an adult male Pit Bull, born on May 3, 2021, and weighing 40 pounds. With a big heart and a love for adventure, Henry is sure to capture the affection of those who take the time to understand his unique personality. Despite his strong and confident exterior, Henry requires patience and experience to fully appreciate his loving nature. Henry's journey to becoming a friendly and well-behaved companion hasn't been without its challenges. Due to a lack of socialization during his formative years, Henry sometimes struggles with social cues, which can lead to misunderstandings in social settings. Fortunately, with dedicated training and care, Henry has made significant progress and thrives under the guidance of an experienced owner. What to Expect When Adopting a Dog Like Henry Slow and Steady Introductions: Henry is a "three-date dog," meaning he takes a bit of time to warm up to new people. Multiple meet-and-greet sessions will help him feel more comfortable and secure. Patience and understanding are key to gaining his trust. Continued Training and Guidance: While Henry excels in obedience commands such as sit, down, place, and boundary control, he needs ongoing training to reinforce his social skills. A pinch collar is recommended once trust is established, helping him maintain focus and control during walks. Adventure-Loving Spirit: Henry loves adventure and is a great companion for pack walks, though he may initially feel uneasy. His ability to walk calmly past other dogs without reacting is a testament to his progress and potential. Understanding Boundaries: Henry is not allowed on furniture to prevent dominance issues. Instead, he enjoys using his designated place as his own cozy sofa. This routine helps reinforce boundaries and ensure a harmonious living environment. Gentle Handling: Henry is sensitive about being grabbed by his collar. Using treats to lure him is a more effective approach, as it prevents him from shutting down and maintains a positive attitude. Breed-Experienced Owner: Henry requires an owner with experience in handling Pit Bulls or similar breeds. Understanding his needs and providing a structured environment will help him continue to thrive and grow into a well-rounded companion. By welcoming Henry into your home, you're inviting a loyal and adventurous spirit into your life. His journey of growth and the bond you'll build together will be rewarding and fulfilling. If you're ready to offer Henry the understanding and guidance he needs, he might just be the perfect match for your family! Meet Ernie ******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you area not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Ernie, formerly Max, is a neutered, 8 year old male Pittie/Cattle Dog mix, currently weighing around 63lbs. He is in a foster home in Houston, TX, and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is found. Ernie was found by his foster mom running down a busy street in rush hour traffic. She saw him almost get hit and literally took off her heels to run over and get him in the car. It was obvious by the way he jumped right in and his good health, that he was previously owned. Unfortunately, despite being microchipped, the owner didn’t want him back. We have gathered that Ernie is about 8 years old and was initially adopted from a county shelter back 2020. He was clearly loved at one time as he was HW- and never met a stranger. We will never know why his owner never came for him, but Ernie is a true gem of a dog and we can’t wait to see him find his true forever home. This handsome pup is a goofy older gentleman! He is very chill but also gets excited for a walk or play date. He’s done great with every human and animal he’s met, and just wants to be wherever you are. Ernie gets excited when he sees other dogs, wagging his tail and hoping you let him say hi! He’s a gentle play mate, just wanting to be included in the group and will go with the flow. He’s been great with dogs half his size, and lets his foster sibling, a little Aussie, boss him around. The dog sitter has a cat that he hasn’t formally met, but has seen from across the way. He seems interested in the cat, but not in an aggressive way. We think he would be fine with cats that don’t mind him wanting to say hi. Ernie hasn’t been around kids but is extremely gentle. His foster believes he’d enjoy a home with them as long as they are aware he is a bigger boy. Ernie is house broken and does great on a leash. He doesn’t enjoy the crate and will try to escape. Thankfully, he isn’t destructive when left unsupervised. If he knows you’re home while he’s in the crate, he will whine or howl for a few minutes, but calms down with a treat or verbal commands. He is a social guy and really enjoys time with his humans, following you room to room. His favorite spot is right next to you! His foster mom feels Ernie would be a great fit anywhere. He’d do well with kids, with or without other pets in the house, an older couple, or even a first time dog owner. He may be a senior, but Ernie has a lot of love left to give and just wants to be part of his very own pack! ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. Story
Johnny is full of life! He was recently the star of the show at the Boulder holiday lights parade, walking with our staff and volunteers to represent shelter dogs. He loved saying hello to all the dogs and people along the parade route! Johnny would love to find a home that will enjoy his fun-loving spirit and take him on adventures, whether just around the neighborhood or beyond. If you enjoy mountain adventures, this boy is a perfect companion in the car and will happily join! He`d also be happy to be a jogging partner - this boy can run! Johnny has enjoyed playing with other dogs and might appreciate a well-matched canine companion in his next home. We suggest a meet and greet at HSBV if considering him as a doggy pal for your current dog. Due to his exuberance, HSBV will only rehome him to a family without children or with children over the age of 12.Johnny can be met with until 4:30pm so our Training & Behavior team can provide adoption counseling.

If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Addie, 4.5 year old, spayed female pitbull terrier mix, 45 pounds. Addie is in a foster home in Houston, TEXAS and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is lined up! Addie was saved from the streets of a north Houston neighborhood known for being a dumping ground for unwanted pets. When she was rescued, she was nearly hairless from mange, massively underweight and had experienced only a lifetime of struggle and raising litters. Addie is still learning what it means to be a loved house dog, but she is a willing and promising pupil and is loving her new lease on life! She is crate trained and stays in the kennel while her foster is at work for up to 8-9hrs, as well as sleeping in there at night. She has been trusted to sleep loose on occasion and has not had any issues in the house. She's still perfecting her house skills and may have the occasional accident until she settles into her new Furever home's routine. We do not have history with cats or children. In general, we recommend homes with kids who are old enough to understand and respect animal behavior cues and would always suggest supervised interactions until all parties are well accustomed to the other. Addie is a sweet, gentle girl, so she would likely do well around young kids, but may prefer older, calmer pre-teens and teenagers. Addie never had doggy "friends" before so she's not super playful. When she does interact, she greatly prefers her male friends of equal to bigger size (40-60lbs) and picks up on their cues to cease playtime. She is very curious and pulls towards the female dogs she's encountered but has yet found a girlfriend she enjoys playing with. This cutie has not shown any aggression around food or other resources but she is very much is a hungry, hungry hippo! She will try to eat everyone else's food, so we do recommend feeding her separately. Her foster says she is realizing that she will be getting another meal, and is getting much better with this. Addie has a few wishes for her new home: *walkies for 20-30 mins twice a day *a yard to roam and run around in *a male dog sibling to cuddle up and sleep next to *couches aplenty since she's in her Soft Life Era *all of the love and affection she missed out on while fending for herself on the street Although she is timid at first, but once she trusts you, Addie is overflowing with love. She is a survivor and has proven that the resilience of dogs will not be diminished, no matter how unfortunate life or unkind humans have been to them. We all can’t wait to see her living her best life with her new family! ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Meet Remy—a resilient, loving pup who’s ready to be your loyal shadow and snuggle partner for life! Remy is an almost 4 year old Rottweiler mix weighing 70lbs, but looks smaller than this, his foster mom has been told. He is in a foster home in Houston, TX, and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is found. Remy was found as a stray in Cleveland, Texas. Thanks to a Good Samaritan who stepped up for him, his life changed forever. Remy is a total love bug and wants nothing more than to be near his person—your built-in shadow! His separation anxiety has improved so much, and he does great staying loose in the house while you’re away. He’s not a fan of kennels, but has gotten more use to them, especially when you're home. He has excellent house manners and has never had a single potty accident. Love walks? So does Remy! Love car rides? He’s your co-pilot! Love couch snuggles? He’ll be first in line! He’s dog & lifestyle friendly! He’s met and played with several dogs, playful but not overly so. He's met children, mainly on the older side....this goofball thinks he's 1/2 his size. He’s still learning, as we all are, but eager to please. Like any pup who’s getting a fresh start, Remy has a couple of small things he’s working on. Because he’s gentle and responsive, with consistency, these will be easy wins for his new family. •He gets really excited before a walk, at times pulls a bit at the beginning of walks, but settles in once he gets going. It doesn't take long and he's ready for a nap after a quick walk. •He may give you a soft little “welcome home” or “let’s go!” jump, mostly when you’re headed out for a walk or just arriving back. He's just always excited to see his people! Remy is ready to give someone all his love, loyalty, and all of the couch cuddles! Ready to meet your new best friend? Apply today and give Remy the loving home he deserves ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown.
