This dog is recommended for a home with children of any age. This dog has not been tested with cats at LHS, and has no known history of living in a home with cats.Due to my physical appearance, I may experience discrimination and be unable to live in a city with Breed Specific Legislation. We have not seen the parents of these puppies and do not know what they will look like when they grow up. We suspect they will be medium to large (or small) size adult dogs.

Story
Posie is a beautiful, intelligent dog who’s been working hard on her training for several months and has made great strides with the help of a dedicated trainer. She is looking for a very specific kind of home—one where her boundaries are respected, her training is maintained, and her environment is predictable and safe. Her ideal adopter will be someone committed to continuing her structured training using tools like a remote collar and positive reinforcement, especially in public or off-leash environments. When her training is followed, she does beautifully on leash and can pass other people and animals calmly and confidently.Posie is good with cats and currently lives with 5 other dogs, a cat and children. A home with older children is required, however.Posie is not the dog for every home—but for the right person, she will be an incredibly loyal, loving, and rewarding companion. If you're experienced, patient, and ready to continue her training and give her the structure she needs, Posie will return your dedication with endless heart. We are committed to finding the perfect match for Posie to set her—and her future family—up for success. If you're interested, we’d love to talk and set up a time for you to meet her with guidance from her trainer. Story
Meet Maui — the low-rider queen you didn’t know you needed. At just 15 pounds, this 1-year-old dachshund/pitbull mix has tiny little legs, a hilariously squatty body, and the kind of face that made the internet collectively say, “WHAT is she?!” after her foster post blew up with hundreds of reactions. Despite someone apparently trying to make her look “tough” with cropped ears, Maui is actually just a goofy, lovable little gremlin who’s good with other dogs, great with kids, and happiest making people laugh. Cat test pending! If you’re looking for a dog with personality, comedy, and endless meme potential, Maui is your girl. ##2744558##

Story
Stormy is the cutest little low rider diva princess pocket pittie (only 37 lbs!) around! This girl is 4-6 years old, yet she’s spunky and packed full of personality! Stormy loves life! She loves the human in it and seems to like most dogs, too! Stormy joined MHCR as a transfer from a high-volume shelter in Houston. We couldn’t believe her adorable melon head needed our help, but we are so glad we could save her! She was glad to leave Texas as she is quite allergic to their fleas. With a good, medicated bath, some Zyrtec, and cleaning out her ears, she is feeling soooooo much better. Her coat is filling in, too! She is a healthy girl now and is ready to find her forever home. Stormy walks decently on leash, is crate trained, and seems housetrained. She requests humans that are home often, allow furniture privileges, a yard or deck for sunbathing, and humans that have plenty of kisses, snuggles, and belly rubs. Balls are Stormy’s absolute favorite toys on earth. So, it would helpful if her forever humans had a strong arm so they could throw the ball for her, a lot. Stormy will be best suited in a feline free home. Stormy is in foster in Fort Collins, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs. * You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/stormy You can apply for our wonderful dogs at https://www.milehighcanine.org/adopt/adoption-application/.

Story
Hugo is a 65lbs, senior, pittie mix looking for his forever human(s) to help him make the last part of his life THE BEST PART. He is thought to be around 10-12 years old, but Hugo reminds us that age is just a number and you are never too old for new beginnings. Hugo was picked up as a dirty ‘stray’ walking around Houston with a large tumor (it wasn’t cancer and was benign…yay!) dangling from his side. He seems to have had a home at one point— he’s comfortable and loving with people, has decent leash walking skills, and someone went thru the trouble of giving him ‘at home crop job’ leaving his ears butchered. Unfortunately, he quickly found himself at the top of the euthanasia list due to his age. That’s when MHCR decided to help. After arriving into rescue, Hugo got a makeover—neuter, tumor removal, and an extensive dental cleaning with numerous extractions. He was a total champ! He is doing well with a great attitude and had beautiful levels on his bloodwork! Hugo is looking for a nice retirement home without a ton of hustle and bustle. He does have arthritis and appreciates not having to do a lot of stairs, though he would never admit it and still thinks he can do all the things. He also doesn’t hear very well, but he doesn’t seem to mind; in fact, he’s a character and sometimes we suspect maybe his hearing is just selective. He loves meals, occasional strolls, comfy beds, and is a low maintenance fellow. Hugo is ready to give his forever humans all the love in the world for as long as they are lucky to have him. He also likes kids, other dogs and doesn’t seem to mind cats! Hugo is being fostered in Fort Collins, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs.* You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/hugo/. Story
Chunk is a 60 lbs, 5 year old bully mix that joined MHCR in September of 2024. He’s short in stature, big in personality, and commits to his humans for life. Chunk made a canine buddy while in foster care and they spent over a year together before she was recently adopted. Now he is alone. Chunk LOVED playing with her. Their acclimation was slow and steady overtime, though. That’s the way Chunk likes it. He isn’t a kiss on the first date kind of guy; more like the 100th. As such, he’s looking for a cat and canine free home with hermit-ish humans. Walks make him act a fool, car rides aren’t his jam; he wants homebody humans looking for a loyal, silly, companion. Oh! They must also have a crate for him, it’s his safe space. Chunk is a very sweet, loving, extroverted boy with people, and especially when snacks are involved. He’s very chill, low maintenance, and quiet when he settles into a place and understands there are no ongoing threats lurking about. He likes limited play time but mostly is low energy and likes multiple daily naps, snuggles, and sunbathing. He sleeps through the night and is crate and housetrained. He likes baths and is a gentleman in the tub. He lets his little human foster sisters dress him up. He has not been aggressive with people in any manner, even for veterinary visits and ‘scary’ 🙄 nail trims. He’s physically healthy and Iikes to keep his teeth clean with dental chews and sticks. His personality, quirks, and uniqueness know no bounds, and to know him is to know a little splash of comedy and resilience related to enjoying life after darkness. He’s a cute low rider clunker blockhead tank and class clown. Chunk is a constant reminder that saving one dog doesn’t change the world, but it does change the world for that dog. Chunk is in foster in Fort Collins, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs. * You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/chunk You can apply for our wonderful dogs at https://www.milehighcanine.org/adopt/adoption-application/.

Story
I acquired Indie after her owner suddenly passed away. Indie is a very smart, and loyal pup. She will sit or lay right next to you wherever you are like your personal sidekick. Indie has a more calmer nature, but gets excited too. She’s a little anxious, she’s afraid of thunder and fireworks, and needs something to hold in her mouth (right now she has a bunny) when she’s excited. But she is so loyal and sweet. Loves belly scratches, she’ll actually give you her paw a million times, she wants you to scratch her belly. And finally, she absolutely loves to cuddle. She is not fixed.
