Story
BRAD is a nervous boy who has been settling in with his foster, decompressing, and showing himself to be an affectionate pup. OTHER PETS: Brad was unsure meeting dogs at the shelter and would likely do best as an only pet. [Likely (Must Meet First)] OWNER Brad will do best with someone who has experience with positive reinforcement while helping a nervous dog gain confidence. Brad has some anxiety going through doors, and meeting new people, so a slow introduction to new stimuli and the world will be essential in helping him feel comfortable in a new home and environment. While he has been nervous going through doors, barriers should be used while he is still nervous so he doesn't accidentally become startled and find himself lost. [Some Experience] KIDS: Brad bonds closely with his people as he becomes more relaxed. He is very affectionate and social, but young children may be frightening to him. He would be a best fit for teens and older humans that would be able to recognize when he needs space, and when he requests interactions. [15+ / Dog Savvy (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Brad enjoys playing in the foster's fenced yard, and so far is going on short walks as he builds confidence and takes in his surroundings. He is a combination of playful and affectionate, and will benefit from regular exercise, and plenty of mental enrichment such as food puzzles and games to help meet his needs. Mental stimulation is incredibly important for all dogs, and can help worried dogs cope with the world. Because he is nervous, a leash or fence will be necessary for all outings. [Couch Potato / Good Walking Buddy] VETERINARY CARE: [Average]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Brad bond with his new owner as well as help him learn new skills and tricks. Positive reinforcement, and counterconditioning will help him create happy associations with things he finds scary. Helping Brad continue to blossom will mean letting him learn about new things at his own pace without being forced. GROOMING: Occasional brushing will help keep Brad's coat clean. Story
Sonata arrived at TJO shut down and fearful. She was slow to trust, but eventually grew brave enough to venture outside and has been building her confidence every day since. She still has some amount of stanger danger, and will require slow introductions with anyone new she may be meeting. But given time and patience, she'll settle into your life like she's always been there.OTHER PETS: Sonata was relaxed when meeting one dog, but intense when meeting another. She is dog selective and would likely do well with another relaxed dog that will co-exist with her, but would also be happy as an only dog. [Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Sonata would do best with someone that has experience with positive reinforcement and nervous dogs in order to help her adjust to her new environment and the new people she may meet. She will do best with slow introductions introductions to the new things at her pace. [Some Experience]KIDS: Sonata is nervous and would likely do best in a quiet home without a lot of activity or foot traffic. She also has some pain in her hind end that makes her a bit sensitive to certain types of handling. She could do well with older children that can understand how to best interact with her and when to let her have her own space. [15+ (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Sonata is a nervous dog that often prefers to keep to herself while curled up on her bed. While her level of energy may change outside of the shelter once she settles, she is currently content with short walks when the weather is fair. A combination of mental enrichment like puzzle toys or a treat-filled kong, and regular exercise, will help to keep her mind happy and healthy. [Couch Potato]VETERINARY CARE: Sonata is currently on pain medication for some stiffness in her back legs, which could be from a past injury or something related to her age. She will likely need above average vet care to ensure that she remains comfortable as she continues to age. [Above Average]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Sonata will do best learning with someone who can offer both patience and confidence while she adjusts. Positive reinforcement training will help Sonata not only learn her basic cues, but also help her to feel more comfortable and confident in herself! It will provide a good opportunity for her to bond with her new owner as well. [Minimal]GROOMING: Routine brushing will help to minimize shedding in the home. [Minimal]December 8, 2025, 3:15 pm

Story
Meet Ollie! A bouncy three-year-old American Pitbull Terrier mix currently living in Baltimore, MD, whose heart is as big as his playful spirit and whose stunning blue-and-white coat makes him a showstopper wherever he goes. Ollie is the kind of pup who turns everyday moments into joyful adventures! Whether he's chasing a ball across the yard, diving into a spirited game of tug-of-war, or burrowing under blankets for a snuggle session, Ollie lives for connection. His relationships with other dogs are mostly friendly, he enjoys playtime and socializing, but he can occasionally give a grumpy reaction, so he’d do best with a guardian who understands dog body language and knows how to set him up for success. At 50 pounds, Ollie is a medium-sized bundle of love and energy who’s great with kids (ages 1–9) and adores people of all kinds. He’s crate trained, house-trained, and knows his basics like sit, lay down, wait, and come, although he’s still working on his leash manners. He sometimes gets a little too excited when he sees other dogs on walks and needs help staying focused around distractions. With consistent positive reinforcement and an experienced pet parent to guide him, Ollie will continue to blossom! His ideal home? One with a backyard would be a dream come true! A canine sibling (especially a female) to play with could be a great match and a guardian who can dedicate time to continued training would be perfect. Ollie is healthy, neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccines, ready for the next chapter in a loving active home. Are you ready to welcome this cuddle-loving, ball-chasing, tail-wagging joy machine into your life? To learn more about adopting Ollie, contact adopt@joyfulpets.com! Who’s ready for a lifetime of playful romps and blanket snuggles with this sweet boy?

Story
Meet Riley! A sweet and snuggly three-and-a-half-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier currently living in Lancaster, PA, whose heart is as big as her gorgeous black coat with its charming white chest patch. Riley is the ultimate love bug—she’ll happily spend her days curled up beside her favorite people, offering endless affection and soaking up all the cuddles! Weighing 30 pounds, she’s the perfect medium-sized companion for someone looking for a low-maintenance, affectionate pup who adores calm routines and cozy companionship. Chew toys and soft blankets are her go-to comforts, and she’s never happier than when she’s snuggled up next to you. She’s house-trained, rides well in the car, and has attended both doggy daycare and overnight boarding with ease. Riley is especially gentle with children—she's had a wonderful bond with the toddler in her current home—and she knows basic commands like sit, stay, and lie down thanks to previous obedience training. While Riley gets along well with the laid-back dog she currently lives with, she does experience anxiety when encountering unfamiliar dogs on leash. This has led to leash reactivity, and most recently, Riley bit another dog that passed by her yard. This behavior is out of character for her, but it highlights the need for a calm, dog-savvy guardian who understands reactivity and can continue helping her through positive reinforcement and structured management. She’s not a candidate for homes with cats and would do best as the only dog in a peaceful setting without a lot of canine traffic, such as a rural home or quiet neighborhood. Despite her struggles with other dogs, Riley’s devotion to people is unwavering! She’s playful, affectionate, and incredibly loyal—a true couch buddy and loving companion. Her gentle nature with people makes her a wonderful match for a family or individual who wants a close, one-on-one bond with their dog. We’re including a full month of behavioral guidance from our consultant to help Riley settle in. Her new family will have compassionate support every step of the way to feel confident, connected, and at home. Could your home be the cozy, calm retreat Riley needs to thrive? If you're ready to open your heart to this affectionate snuggle expert, reach out to adopt@joyfulpets.com to learn more!
