You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Rooster is ready for his new home in WNY! Rooster was born on November 3, 2022 in Texas. We know that mom is a healer mix and dad was most likely a pit mix. Rooster is already 30 pounds and will be a larger breed boy when fully grown. We are guessing around 50 pounds. Rooster is the sweetest, most loving, and cuddly little guy. Don’t get us wrong, Rooster will play and wrestle with the other dogs in his foster home, but once he is done, Rooster is on the couch snuggled up against his foster mom. He tends to rest his head on her arm, her chest, or even her shoulder while the two watch TV together. He has no idea of his size. Rooster try thinks he is a small lap dog. So why would such a handsome boy need to come to WNY to find a home? Well, Rooster is hearing impaired. That does not seem to hinder him or slow him down in any way. In fact Rooster has no idea he doesn’t hear and other dogs can. Rooster is extremely smart. Right now he is learning using a vibration (NOT SHOCK) collar. This is how Rooster communicates with his family, and it will be required in his new home as well. As soon as his mom hits the vibration button, no matter where he is, Rooster will come galloping in and sit immediately in front of you. Even if he is outside playing, he comes bouncing in, as if to say “here I am mom, you called?”. Rooster is also currently working on “down”. In just a few days, Rooster has mastered it. Training a hearing impaired dog is just as easy, as training any other dog, in fact maybe easier. Once you have his attention, he will follow your hand signals. No words needed to confuse him. The purpose of the vibration collar is to get his attention. So far, Rooster has learned many signs in his foster home, including “come, sit and down”. They are currently working on stay. Rooster is also an amazing walker. He loves to go for walks through the neighborhood. He greets everyone he meets with a kiss. For being a 5 month old puppy, he’s not mouthy at all. He’s definitely a lover, and will shower your face, and hands, in kisses! Rooster is still working on his house training. Again, he is doing great! He does have a doggy door in his foster home and after 2 days he learned how to go in and out. If the door isn’t open, Rooster will go to the door and start to smell around. Of course he is puppy so he’s not perfect at it yet. He will still need help remembering what to do. Once he gets up from a nap, or after eating, make sure Rooster is let out. He’s a typical puppy and sometimes in the midst of a wrestling match he forgets he is supposed to go out to potty. Rooster is completely crate trained so while you are at work, Rooster is content to sleep the day away in his crate. Once you are home, he does need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation to help tire him out. That’s where the training comes into play. He is a fast learner and eager to please. At night, Rooster will sleep in bed, right next to his mom, all night. You will get a full 8 hours of sleep before he wakes you up to go out. Another great thing about a hearing impaired pup, they sleep like a champ! Nothing will wake this boy up! Due to Rooster's special needs, a permanent fully fenced yard is required for him at the time of adoption. Sorry no electric fences. He would benefit from having another dog in the home to learn from and follow. As for kids, a home with children over the age of would probably be best. Children who can be more respectful of his needs would’ve best, but again he has no trouble providing kisses to the babies that visit. In most ways, Rooster is just a typical puppy. He is loving, affectionate, full of kisses, goofy, and clumsy. He just needs a home that will be patient and continue to train him. Rooster is very eager to learn and please his family.
