Story
Meet Buzz Meeeeet Buzz! This guy is a fun and friendly ten-month-old-ish pittie mix. He's a resident of Exeter Animal Shelter and a participant in Handsome Dan's Rescue's Shelter Dog Enrichment Program. Buzz was picked up as a stray so we don't have a history on him, but from what we can see, he is likely to enjoy the company of other dogs. With his HDR Enrichment Specialist, Matt, Buzz will be getting training to work on some jumpy and mouthy behaviors. It's typical adolescent stuff, but until we get a handle on that we would prefer kids aged ten or over. To apply to adopt Buzz, please go to handsomedansrescue.org. Thank you for choosing rescue!

Meet Birdie - Deaf Senior Sweetie This 12-year-old is one of the sweetest senior dogs around! She's a resident of EP shelter. She is deaf, and is just finishing up some meds for a skin infection. She's got some limps and bumps, but our vet tells us they are nothing to cause worry. She LOVES tennis balls, even if she can't catch them on the first try! She happily gives them back for another throw. She would probably do best in an adult only home, we are not sure how well her sight is in one of her eyes, and being deaf, we don't want her to be startled. Story
Meet Vermont - Take My Lead After 533 days at a shelter, Vermont is flourishing in foster care! At under two years old, Vermont lacked critical socialization while he was kept at a shelter as evidence in his former owner’s cruelty case since March 2023. While @RISPCA shelter staff and Handsome Dan’s Rescue volunteers have worked closely with him, not being able to leave the shelter’s premises has limited his interactions and real-life exposure to a single area, and only a handful of people. Once his court case was over, with both RISPCA staff and us at HDR were overjoyed. RISPCA said goodbye to one of their favorite residents and entrusted him to us for foster care. He is now in the loving care of volunteers Jen and Brian. He meets each new experience with hesitation but also becomes more confident and comfortable, it’s met with curiosity. If it’s new, it’s scary. Vermont’s foster family is working to help him acclimated to real life by exposing him to more people, places, and things. After being in foster care for a few months his world is slowly starting to open up. He enjoys outings, and the resident dogs have become his besties and provide emotional support. Vermont would benefit from being adopted into a household with another dog that he could depend on for a little extra bravery when needed. Vermont is a work in progress, but has proven to be up for the challenge. He needs a patient adopter who is willing to continue to help him to overcome his fears, and who understand that he may always need time and space to process new environments. Vermont comes with a Take My Lead grant, providing FREE training through Handsome Dan’s Rescue. We want to set him up for success in his new home. To say this boy is special is an understatement. We are beyond excited to see where his life takes him. Whoever ends up won’t this boy will be truly a lucky soul.

Story
Meet Angel Angel is a big, handsome boy weighing around 80lbs, but he’s truly a gentle giant when it comes to people. He’s a lovable Lab/Rottweiler mix with a heart of gold. Angel walks wonderfully on a leash, making him a pleasant companion on strolls. While he’s sweet and affectionate, he does take a little time to warm up to new people, so patience is key when getting to know him. Angel is quite reactive toward other animals, which means he does need to be the only pet in the home. He needs a special person who understands how to manage his reactivity and can help him avoid other dogs, including on walks. Once Angel feels comfortable and builds trust with you, he transforms into a complete marshmallow! He’s incredibly food motivated, which makes him easy to train with his favorite treats. He enjoys sniffing around and discovering new smells, and while he’s moderately active, he enjoys walks and some playtime. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who just needs a bit of time and understanding, Angel could be the perfect fit for you! We look forward to hearing from you. I am a very sweet girl… I am shy at first but I will open up my heart you. It took me almost 3 weeks to settle down into my foster home. I loved having the foster puppies around they were fun to play with. I now like to play with the big dogs I am learning to be a dog. I get to get up on the couch and the bed with my foster mom. I like the bed she keeps telling me it’s okay I have never been on the bed before… I don’t like crates but I like my pen I get to stay when my foster mom is gone. I have learned the doggie door and it’s so much fun going in and out of it. I am learning being outside can be fun especially when all the other dogs go outside. I am working on sits and stays but I am still a little nervous with the trainer. Give me time and I will give you love… I would loved to be called your girl…. I just need some patience and some love and we will best friends forever!!!!
