Story
Tac is an amazing dog that is going to make the right adopter very happy. She is a 9 month old, female, Pit Bull mixed breed. She is very sweet but extremely shy around new people. She LOVES to play and cuddle with her foster siblings. She requires a home with other dogs (they have helped with her confidence) and without men. She is extremely smart and knows several commands. She is great on a leash and really enjoys being outside. She is working on her potty training and has been doing great (her foster mom is a rockstar!). She is up to date on vaccinations and has been spayed. Unfortunately, due to past issues with landlords/housing/insurance, a restricted breed policy is in place for Bully breed/Pit Bull type dogs. This means that you must own your home and provide proof of homeownership to adopt a Bully breed/Pit Bull/Shepherd dog or puppy. Kali is 3 years old, 37 lbs. She loves people, , kids of all ages, and cats! she is a WONDERFUL girl. unfortunately her deadbeat owner moved and left her behind. her grandmother was trying to rehome her because she is overwhelmed and unable to afford to take care of her. she went to an adopter in MA but is not doing well with her dogs for some reason. So she would probably be best as an only dog. but she will give you TONS of love. she just wants to be loved and feel safe.

Story
Meet Mr. Jack! We know, we know, HE IS SO HANDSOME!! Jack is also extremely sweet and LOVES belly rubs. He is great with other pups his size and larger, but hasn’t been around small dogs or kids. We do know that he isn’t a fan of cats though and likes to chase the small rodents in the yard. Jack LOVES to eat and is very food motivated, which is great for training. He knows his basic commands, but can be stubborn at times and likes to be bribed with a treat. He is house+crate trained as well, and does very good in his crate! Jack has lots of energy and would LOVE a fenced in yard in his forever home. If not fenced in, then an active family that would like to take him on walks or runs, hikes, and family vacations of course! If Jack would be perfect for your family, please apply! He can’t wait to be part of your family! ================================================================= If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at http://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/adopt-form PLEASE MAKE NOTE- OUR DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN ALABAMA (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED), OUR DOGS TRANSPORT TO THEIR NEW FAMILIES IN RHODE ISLAND AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED. Story
Carraway is a beautiful, loyal pup that is so ready for a home of her very own❤️ To understand Carraway, you need to be let in on her backstory… For weeks, she had been spotted and was being fed by a Good Samaritan in a really bad part of Birmingham. We knew she had been pregnant and she had her babies, but it took a little bit to figure out where they were. Once we knew they were in an abandoned boarded up house, we knew what we had to do. We were able to trap Mama Carraway, and then we were able to get into the house and rescue her puppies ( our Birmingham Streets Litter) from under the floor - they were about five weeks old at the time. We wondered, would mama be OK, would she be able to adjust after life on the street? But we were soon answered by her curling up with her puppies’ Rescuer in a chair at Dixie House. It was then that we knew she would be OK. Carraway has had a long road, even since rescue. Through vetting and heartworm treatment, a couple different foster homes, her “breed” working against her… But this sweet girl is more ready than ever to find a home and family of her own. She has come so far! She went from showing dog leash reactivity, to assimilating into a foster home with eight other adult dogs, ranging in all sizes and puppies! At first she had no idea how to play, what toys were, or how to be a pet. But it did not take long! Carraway has a few things that she REALLY loves: Car Rides *she might claim shotgun* Snuggles (especially with kids!) Squeaker & tug toys Walks! Other dogs! Carraway does well in a crate, plays well with others, and is overall just a sweet and loving girl. She has been misunderstood for far too long and is ready for a home that sees her for who she is and gives her all she deserves. 🩷MINNIE🐾 Minnie is a little over 1 year old, around 35-40lbs, and the best companion dog you could ask for! 🥰 She loves people, adores kids, and wants nothing more than to be the center of your universe. Her tail wags nonstop, and sounds like a metronome on the floor. She will be your best buddy, forever and ever! 🫶🏼 Minnie has a lot of energy and loves to play fetch and tug-of-war, but she also settles down really nicely for a snuggle, preferably napping alongside of you. She loves chewies and she’s super food-motivated and very smart so continuing her training will be easy. 🐾 While she has a few pup-buddies, Minnie is picky about other dogs and would prefer to be the only dog in her house, but we would make an exception for someone with experience in training and proper intros. 🐶 If you’re looking for a forever bff, Apply today to make this sweet girl yours and you’ll never feel alone again.🥰 If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at http://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/adopt-form PLEASE MAKE NOTE- OUR DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN ALABAMA (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED), OUR DOGS TRANSPORT TO THEIR NEW FAMILIES IN RHODE ISLAND AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED. Story
This beautiful girl is ready to be the STAR of your life!⭐️ Star is an approximately 5 year old female pittie girl. She is petite in frame and just a sweet, gentle love. She has been THRIVING in her foster home and now she is ready to find a family of her own!😍 This sweet girl loves belly rubs and laying around the house or outside in the sun. She is a BIG fan of stuffed animals and can be found carrying them around the house! Her foster mama has been teaching her how to decipher between kid toys and dog toys but sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference🤪 When asked about Star’s personality, her foster mom says “you will absolutely fall in love with this girl. She is sweet and just wants to be close to you! She is low energy and crate trained, and all she wants in life is a warm bed to lay her head on, and infinite belly rubs.”💕 Star is great with other dogs after proper introductions and has a dominant play style, so she does best with patient playmates who aren’t easily offended😉 She would do well in a home with or without another pup, and would LOVE to have kids in her forever home - she thinks they’re pretty awesome. Star would make the perfect companion for just about anyone willing to give her a chance.🐾 If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at http://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/adopt-form PLEASE MAKE NOTE- OUR DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN ALABAMA (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED), OUR DOGS TRANSPORT TO THEIR NEW FAMILIES IN RHODE ISLAND AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED. Story
Introducing the new and improved ASTRO! From the streets to the life he’s always deserved❤️ In case you don’t remember, Astro was found in a median on a busy highway, on the brink of death. He was rushed into the rescue where he received immediate medical attention and began to learn what love is. An amazing foster stepped up, and now he is ready for a family of his very own!🏡 Astro loves attention of any kind. He likes to sit his head in his foster mom’s lap and be rubbed, especially behind his ears and under his sweet chin! Believe it or not, his favorite thing to do is go for a CAR ride! Even to the vet!! I know, we can’t believe it either🤣 but he is the perfect shotgun rider. This angel boy is house trained! He is such a good boy and has no accidents in the home, even when his foster mom is gone. He isn’t crate trained, but he has proven himself not to be destructive in the home, as long as there’s nothing yummy-smelling in the trash can😉 as always, we recommend setting your furry friend up for success in a pup-safe room when they’re left alone. Astro says his “perfect day” would begin with a ride in the car, followed by some yummy “human snackies” like plain grilled chicken. After his adventure, he would like a good ear scratch and some playtime with a friend!🐶 This handsome boy is dog friendly, even with the small pup in the house that doesn’t want to play with him! Even when she “snaps” at him, he blows it off - completely unphased. All in all, Astro is an amazing dog that deserved so much more than the hand he was initially dealt, and we are so excited to meet the forever family that shows him all the love he deserves.❤️ If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at http://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/adopt-form PLEASE MAKE NOTE- OUR DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN ALABAMA (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED), OUR DOGS TRANSPORT TO THEIR NEW FAMILIES IN RHODE ISLAND AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED.
