Story
LOVES PEOPLE, DOGS, AND NEW SMELLS Est. DOB 1/8/22, weight 45 lbs. Arf! Arf, everyone! I’m Pickle, a sweet, playful, inquisitive chestnut and speckled-white American Staffordshire Terrier/ Australian Cattle Dog gal who relishes snuggling “down-time” as much as invigorating play-time. I have an overall “joie de vie” with anything new -- be it experiences, toys, or especially smells. That’s why I celebrate when I accompany my hoomans on car rides, park outings, and patio dining. I just love to be right in the middle of whatever is going on! Anyone who will play with me is my friend, and this includes other dogs. I’ve never met a stranger, and I get so excited about meeting new people that I’m working on my “sit” command so I can tone down my ebullience. I’m also improving on my leash etiquette so that on my walks I can greet other dogs appropriately as well as enthusiastically. I haven’t met any cats or kids yet, but Foster Mom thinks I’d be fine with both. I’m a quick learner and am eager to please my foster mom with my aptitude for obedience training. My manners are stellar in that I take treats very gently and let my foster mom take toys away from me with ease. I was found wandering the mean Houston streets as a stray and taken to a high-kill shelter. That’s where my future foster mom found me and fortunately sprung me from my cage in order to bring me to safety in her foster home. I still have a little anxiety after having to fend for myself during that horrible “hardscrabble” phase of my life, but Foster Mom’s TLC is helping me gain confidence every day. I can be a bit of an escape artist and do better in a larger space rather than a crate, which only reminds me of my shelter days. My foster mom has given me “the guest room,” and this arrangement works out great! I’m now ready for my next “new” adventure in your loving, lively forever home. Hopefully you have another playful pup to keep me company while you’re at work or on vacation. I can’t wait to be part of your life, so arrange to meet me right away! HOPE ID: D23-0325-0014 If you are interested in Pickle and would like to fill out a Dog Adoption Application, please go to: http://www.homelesspets.net/adoption-forms/dog-adoption.php. Story
Estimated DOB 2-1-2021, weight 55 lbs. “Hi there, I’m Ace, the happiest, wiggly butt, outgoing boy you’ll ever meet. I love everyone, my foster mom says I’m such a Good Boy! Foster mom found me when she was out walking my foster canine brother, I had been attacked by another dog, pretty badly (I’m a lover, not a fighter). Foster mom took me home and took me to the vet and I got all poked and prodded but I behaved perfectly even though it hurt a lot. Now, I’m fully healed and am looking for my forever home! I’m very playful and full of energy and good with other pets (my foster home has a big dog, a small dog, and a cat and I get along with all of them) and kids. I love treats, cuddles, and butt scratches. But I especially love hanging out with my foster fam after everyone gets home from work and school. I don’t mind spending the day in my crate but I’m ready for some lovin’ and zoomin’ around every evening. On the weekends, sometimes I get to go to the Dog Park and play with other Good Boys and Good Girls and we have a blast! Do you have room in your family for a new addition that just wants to play with dogs and snuggle with people?” HOPE ID: D23-0422-0018 If you are interested in Ace and would like to fill out a Dog Adoption Application, please go to: http://www.homelesspets.net/adoption-forms/dog-adoption.php. Story
Est. DOB 3/11/2021, WEIGHT ~47 LB. Skip, aka Skipper and Mr. Handsome, is such a gentle, sweet dog!  He had been hit by a car and his leg shattered, and was subsequently picked up by Animal Control.  After his leg was amputated, his foster mom sprang him from the shelter and enrolled him in HOPE.  Just the sweet life, no more street life for this tripod! Skip gets along well with other dogs (there are 3 other large dogs in his foster home) and has gone to Day Care a couple of times.  But he especially loves ‘his people’ and will snuggle and roll over for a belly rub at every opportunity.  He is learning to play with toys and will occasionally fetch a tennis ball.  He knows how to use the stairs and the doggy door.  Overall, he’s a low maintenance boy, doesn’t need a lot of exercise although he does enjoy a leisurely walk in the neighborhood. HOPE ID D23-0327-0016 If you are interested in Skip and would like to fill out a Dog Adoption Application, please go to: http://www.homelesspets.net/adoption-forms/dog-adoption.php . Story
Marty is a handsome boy who LOVES human companionship. If you want a cuddle-bug, he’s your guy. Marty is very curious and likes to follow his humans around the house because he simply wants to spend time with the family. He is dog friendly, but requires a slow and proper intro to new dogs. Marty does well with older kids, we recommend 12 years or older. He's also fully house trained, neutered, and up to date on shots. He doesn't like cats. Marty has a laid back demeanor and rarely barks, but he also loves to run and chase a ball. Did I mention he has the cutest head tilt you've ever seen? Please consider meeting Marty, he would love to find his furever family! Story
If you would like more information about Rambo or are interested in adopting him, please send an email to isc.montenegro@gmail.com Rambo was found on January 2022 walking around Memorial Park by a friend of mine. Since no one claimed to be the owner, I told him I would take care of him. Rambo is a playful and energetic dog; he loves to play by grabbing a toy and have someone chase him. Since I trained him, he is obedient and understands commands like sit down, lay down, go inside his crate, go over to his bed. I got the help of a professional trainer; he gave me instructions on how to practice every day, and Rambo is doing great. Even though Rambo does not like much other dogs, during his training the coach brought his own dog to teach Rambo how to socialize, and it was a success. With the proper instruction and the right approach, Rambo was able to socialize with the other dog, and had an amazing day playing. Rambo is a good dog and has a lot of potential. When we go for a walk, he makes it easy for me. When I say “stop” he sits down and waits patiently for me to say “free dog” so he can go and smell around. While I’m traveling Rambo is boarded; the person who takes care of Rambo has kids 5 and 7 years old. Rambo was amazing with those kids. Unfortunately, I travel quite frequently now due to my job. Taking Rambo to the boarding service has become difficult and not great for Rambo. I want to find a new family for Rambo, one who will love him and has time to spend with him. LOVES BELLY RUBS AND GIVES KISSESEst. DOB 10/8/18, Weight ~ 65 lbs I’m Buster, a sweet, happy, eager-to-please, playful Boxer/ Black Mouth Cur mix fella who loves “marathon” belly rubs and snuggling for hours with my human dad on the sofa or the bed. When he sits on the floor with me, I love to lie across his lap and give kisses. I’m very loyal and doting with my human dad, with whom I’ve bonded tremendously, and I follow him everywhere. I’m respectful and trustworthy with children outside the coffee shop and on walks. A bonus is that I have a very soft mouth when I take treats and toys. Speaking of walks, I love them! But, True Confessions – I’m working on my leash manners so I don’t get overly stimulated by cats, squirrels, or certain other dogs. I really enjoy the company of most other dogs, whether playing or lounging around together.  Moderate exercise not only stimulates me physically but mentally too. I’ve been through obedience training and I “sit,” “down,” and “place” on command (for the most part). The trainer says that I’m a quick learner because of my treat-motivation. I’ve had a rotating cast of dog walkers, and they all applaud how people-friendly I am. With proper introductions, I meet new people and strangers easily – with the exception of people who ring that annoying doorbell. I’ve come a long way from when I was rescued at BARC, Houston’s City shelter. You know, there are advantages to adopting an adult dog like me who’s past the stage of puppy-craziness. I’m crate-trained and know how to use the doggy door. I’m not a digger and I don’t destroy anything that isn’t a toy -- other than a couple of pillows. I’ve been a loving adopted canine brother for many months but now my canine brother's anxiety has gotten worse, to the point where it is hard for us to be together therefore it’s better that I find a new home since he was here first.  So, I’m available for adoption again! If you’re looking for a big, gentle boy who’s a bundle of love, I fit the bill!! And I’m flexible – I can live in an apartment as long as I get adequate exercise or a home with a backyard for chasing the tennis ball.  I’d love to be the star of the show and get all of your love, i.e., not have to share you with another dog in the home, but I’d still like going to Day Care, the dog park, and play dates with my canine friends. Arrange to meet me, and remember, I’ve never met a stranger!
