Story
This handsome boy was picked up running at large and based on Facebook posts it was about his third or fourth offense, but no one claimed him. We are guessing that he was a failure at being a livestock guardian because he’s way too social. He’s always wanting to visit someone new. Charlie is a little over a year old anyways 95 pounds. He was very thin when we first got him, but he’s looking great now. He is neutered, up-to-date on required vaccines, microchipped and heartworm tested negative. He’s house trained and he loves other dogs, but he is a big guy. He also will require a tall fence and you will have to keep an eye on him because again he likes to visit new people. He’s affectionate and likes to lean on you. This guy would be a great dog for an active loving family. He’s so sweet! If you would like to be Charlie’s forever family please email dogs4mylife@ gmail.com or olmc7@ hotmail.com. If you are inquiring from a Gmail address. Story
Calling all Shepherd LOVERS-Meet Carmie! Carmie is a 3-year-old Shepherd mix with a heart full of love and a deep affection for people. If someone is searching for a loyal, affectionate, and expert-level cuddle buddy, she might just be the perfect match. A few things to know about beautiful Carmie: She has been living with her current family for a year and a half. She’s a great dog, but she has struggled to get along with her dog sister since a scrap over a rabbit. Carmie would be much happier in a home where she is the only pet. Her family adores her, making this decision difficult, but they know she will thrive best in a home where she can live free of the concern of a canine companion. She loves to run around a yard as well, so space is important for this healthy girl. Carmie absolutely loves people. Whether lounging on the couch or simply spending time at home, she wants to be close to her humans at all times. She’s also vocal - she “squeaks” out her feelings of love and joy, so you’ll never wonder where she is! Carmie is a total cuddlebug. While she enjoys playing with her squeaky ball and running around the yard, her favorite activity is snuggling up and being her person’s personal weighted blanket. A comfy home and a cozy routine? That’s her dream! Kids? Visitors? Yes, please! The vet? That’s a person! Yes, please! Carmie needs a quiet life as the only pet. Other dogs and cats aren’t really her thing—she would much rather soak up all the love and attention from her favorite humans. Carmie has completed three sessions of professional training. She knows a variety of commands and works hard to stay calm. As a true Shepherd mix (Anatolian, German, and English), she tends to be a bit anxious and highly alert. An owner willing to continue working with her on maintaining calmness would be ideal. Carmie is incredibly silly—she sometimes falls off the couch from getting too relaxed, enjoys playing with her human teenage sisters, and has some of the best ears in the world. Carmie is highly intelligent and picks up on things quickly. She rings a bell to go outside and knows commands such as sit, stay, lay down, wait, shake, and back up. While she is house-trained and well-behaved indoors, walking on a leash can be a challenge due to her alert nature and some reactivity to other dogs and small animals. However, Carmie has made great progress. She has been crate trained, but has had free reign of her current house without incident for a year. She’s used to sleeping in her dog bed on the floor. Okay, she’s a little spoiled… Carmie also has an adventurous side—she has been known to climb a 4-foot chain-link fence! Her family added fence extensions to prevent her from escaping, and they are happy to provide these to her new home. She doesn’t want to run away—she just loves to chase small animals and explore. Carmie is fully vetted, up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed, and ready to start her new life with a loving family. For anyone looking for a sweet, loving, intelligent and loyal homebody companion, Carmie would love to meet you. If you would like to meet Carnie, please visit spotslaststop.org and fill out an application.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Alice! Alice is a beautiful shepherd mix with a gentle soul who’s looking for a calm, committed home to help her thrive. While she may be a bit shy at first, once she feels safe and comfortable, Alice shows her sweet, calm, and affectionate side. Alice would do best in a quiet home without a lot of visitors, as too much activity can be overwhelming for her. She’s a bit of an escape artist, so a tall, secure fenced-in yard or always being leashed outdoors is a must. She may do okay with a calm adult dog who isn’t interested in play, but she does not do well with playful or roughhousing dogs—especially puppies—and should be placed in a home without&#226&#128&#139 children. Alice is still working on her potty training . She’s also learning to feel more comfortable in a kennel, which is important because she can become very destructive if left alone. She will need an extra-sturdy crate (preferably hard plastic) as she works on settling into a routine. Alice is a special girl with specific needs, but in the right home, her sweet personality and gentle nature will shine. She just needs someone patient and understanding to help her feel safe and secure.     Alice is from a local impound. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate   to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 16, 2025, 8:54 am

Story
Meet Daisy!Daisy is a 1-year-old, 65-pound Mastiff mix with a heart as big as her paws! Rescued as a stray in poor condition, Daisy has been thriving in her foster home and steadily gaining weight. She’s blossomed into a sweet, loving girl who adores bedtime cuddles and following her humans everywhere—they’ll never be alone with her around!Still a playful pup, Daisy has plenty of energy and is house trained and still learning the ropes of training like not jumping on you in excitement. She’s a smart cookie and eager to please, so with patience and consistency, she’ll become an amazing companion. Daisy loves playing with bigger, higher-energy dogs, like her foster family’s huskies, and has shown promise around cats. While she’s still learning to respect feline boundaries, she’s making great progress.Watching Daisy discover toys and grow into her happy, playful self is nothing short of heartwarming. She’s ready to bring her big heart and loyal spirit into a forever home that will love her unconditionally. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Do you want to meet me? I will be at Unleashed Hounds and Hops (200 East Lyndale Ave N, Minneapolis, MN 55405), Thursday, April 17th from 6:00-8:00 pm. Please email inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com for questions regarding the dogs. Well, hello there! I’m Falkor, a regal, 100-pound Great Dane, and I’m here to tell you all that I’m a certified cuddle expert! It’s true, snuggling is my absolute favorite thing in the world and if you let me, I’ll happily bury my head in your arms and just soak up the love. I mean sure, I’m a big guy but I have a soft heart that is brimming with love and affection! One of my favorite pastimes is relaxing in my favorite armchair and watching the goings on outside. I’m still figuring out what toys are all about, but blankets, towels, and floppy toys are my jam! I also love going on leashed walks, but I’ll forewarn you - I’m a puller LOL, so, I need a confident human on the other end of the leash to show me how it’s done. Additionally, I love to stretch my legs with a nice, good run around the yard so I would love a fenced in yard or area to do that in.  By the way, I also LOVE pajamas…in fact, if I had it MY way, I’d have a whole closet full of cozy jammies that I could show off! Did I mention that I have great manners? I’m fully potty & crate trained, and I know commands like “come”, “go potty”, and “outside” so you can see I’m quite brilliant! I don’t bark much unless something catches me off guard; and cats beware because I have a high prey drive! I am good with kids however, due to my size, I do better with kids that are large dog savvy. As for other dogs, I prefer larger ones because the small ones tend to make me a bit nervous. Additionally, although I get used to other dogs in the home after some time, I can get a bit growly if I feel another dog is invading my space so I will need a confident forever parent who has experience with large, senior breeds. Truth be told, I like to throw my weight around if I’m looking for pets. Hee, hee!! Anyway, if you’re looking for a gentle, loving companion who’s all about cuddles and calm vibes, I’m your guy. Let’s meet—I can’t wait to find a patient, furever family who will love me unconditionally and NEVER give up on me! Love & cuddles Falkor *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.    ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there***Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/   Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
