Story
Coco (now Roxy) is a sweet and playful one-year-old shepherd mix who loves to show affection with gentle head butts and can’t resist her squeaky toys. She’s a smart girl who’s already learning to stay on her bed and picks up new things quickly. Roxy enjoys running and playing, so she would do best in a home with a fenced yard and plenty of space to explore. She gets along well with other dogs and has a friendly, loving personality with people. If you’re looking for a loyal and intelligent companion who’s ready to learn and love, Roxy might be the perfect match!

Story
Meet Harley! 🐾 Harley’s journey began at the shelter, where he arrived frightened and unsure of the world around him, clinging closely to his sister, Coco. His eyes were wide with worry, and every new sound made him flinch. But with patience, love, and the comforting presence of Coco, Harley has come such a long way. 🌟 Today, Harley is a completely different boy! He’s blossomed into a sweet and gentle soul who craves affection and enjoys the simple joys of life—like belly rubs, cozy blankets, and sunbathing by the window. His timid days are behind him, and he’s grown into a confident and very nice boy who knows how to trust again. ❤️ Not only is Harley house-trained, but he’s also made peace with the resident cats, proving just how far he’s come. He’s respectful and calm, happy to coexist without any fuss. 🐱🤍 But what Harley wants more than anything is to stay with his sister, Coco. Their bond is unbreakable, built on shared experiences and the comfort they bring each other. Finding a home that welcomes them both would make Harley's dreams come true. 🏡💞 If you have room in your heart and home for two loving souls, Harley and Coco would fill your days with double the love and gratitude. 🥰

Story
Please contact Kady Hammer (KadyH@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.the best and longest holiday you'll ever have! HOLIDAY NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:   Holiday     Best Guess for Breed:  Anatolian shepherd mix    Best Guess for Age:  3 years as of May 2025     SEX:  Female   Approximate Weight: 49.6 lbs as of 5/2/25; she is significantly underweight at this point   Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!   Currently Living at:   Texas shelter right now; will make her way to Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus on 5/17 for heartworm treatment and then on to the DC area!   Special adoption considerations: Holiday is a truly Lucky Dog. Although she has tested positive for heartworms, treatment has been scheduled! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment.  We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the screening process.    Holiday is Looking For:  Her forever home. This sweetie landed a shelter as far south in Texas as you can get, heartworm positive and significantly underweight. She's slammed the book shut on that chapter and has opened a new one - one where she has her own humans, a family who cares for her and loves her. One where she gets to go on sniffy walks and spend plenty of time outside and just enjoy life.Going by her face and her body, she likely has some Anatolian shepherd in her along with something else. Let your Google-fu shine strong as you research Anatolian shepherds. That breed loves their family, their humans. Utterly loyal. Holiday has so much to offer her forever family. What do you say? Is Holiday the one for your home and your heart?   What My Foster Says About Me:  We will update this once she has spent time in foster care.    Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. That said, we cannot make any guarantees about age, breed or temperament.   Thank you for contacting Lucky Dog Animal Rescue and helping to save a life!  Please visit us online at    www.luckydoganimalrescue.org   .    BE A FOSTER!!!    Fosters make it possible for Lucky Dog Animal Rescue to save and care for homeless and abandoned dogs!  To learn about fostering, please contact    fostering@luckydoganimalrescue.org   ! Story
Meet Scooby! Scooby is an adolescent Anatolian/Malinois mix with a medium build (25-59 lbs) and a heart full of potential! This serious yet chill dude is the ultimate trail, walking, or running buddy, thriving on adventure and daily exercise. He’s fantastic with other dogs, loves a rough-and-tumble play style, and respects older dogs who set boundaries. Scooby rides like a dream in the car and is both crate- and house-trained, though he’s not one to be left alone unsupervised—he’s a bit too curious for that! This high-energy pup isn’t suited for apartment life due to his very high-pitched bark and need for daily runs alongside walks. Scooby shines with positive reinforcement training and is eager to learn. He’s working on overcoming some anxiety, including crate nervousness and discomfort being outside alone, as he craves being close to his people. Scooby can be selectively fearful of random things (think skateboards, lawnmowers, or even a Hawaiian shirt!), but he’s learning to handle his fears by staying back and alerting his handler. His foster family has been using treat-based retreat, desensitization, and counter-conditioning to build his confidence, and he’s making great progress. Scooby’s cautious nature doesn’t stop him from enjoying life—he did wonderfully meeting neighbors and stayed calm at a café surrounded by people and dogs. He’s still working on ignoring those pesky distractions (like squirrels!), but his foster family calls him an awesome little dude who’s ready to find his forever home. If you’re an active, patient adopter ready to help Scooby continue to grow into a confident companion, he’s the perfect match for you! Apply to adopt Scooby today and give this special guy the loving, active home he deserves!

Story
Juke, a one year old, rib showing, 90lbs Anatolian Shepherd mix who is looking for a foster or an adopter that will help him add about 10-15 lbs to his too lean of a figure and give him a loving home to decompress after having been in the shelter for so long. Looking at his age, body structure, and his back paws, we will venture to say there’s a Pyrenees in the bloodline somewhere. What do we know about him? -Easy/loose leash walking boy does he love his walks! -Very playful -Gentle treat taking and loves treats -Low to medium energy but watch out for the zoomies -Dog tested with no negative reaction -Can become mouthy when super excited but responds to corrections. -A home with small children is not ideal as he will knock them down. Videos: https://youtu.be/Xew5GZTtTRM https://youtu.be/7FCB1BNQIKo REMINDER: A dog described as low to medium energy, whose body is beginning to adjust to better nutrition, can turn into a very energetic pup once his system heals. To foster you must be within 30 miles maximum from zipcode 20906, and be able to bring your foster dog to our vet in Burtonsville or Silver Spring. Application here: https://tinyurl.com/TLCdogapp Adoption radius 60 miles from zipcode 20906. We do not promote any of our dogs as house trained or allergy friendly.

Story
River is a wonderful, loyal, and sweet guy! Thanks to his dedicated foster's love and patience, his confidence has grown immensely, and he still has room to grow. River approaches new situations with tentative interest. River is two-years old and 75 pounds of soft, fluffy love. He and his foster have been working on walking on leash as River prefers to run around the yard. For this reason, River's forever home must have a fenced-in yard, and it will be important to continue the leash training and exposure to new situations. This is the best way to build River's confidence and to teach him that the wide world is a fun place to explore!  River can be anxious around new people and in new environments but once warmed up, he loves people (including children) and other dogs. In fact, River must have another dog in the house as he follows the lead of his current foster brother and has learned so much from him! River's daily medication helps calm him down, and this is something that his forever person will need to continue for River's benefit and comfort. River is a masterpiece in the making! He needs a forever person or family who will be willing to love him and help him continue to blossom. PAW places animals in the DC, MD, northern VA, and southern PA area only. ##1836418##

Story
Imagine finding a tiny, shivering soul, barely five weeks old, abandoned on the cold, unforgiving edge of a highway. That was Archer. He and his brother, covered in fleas and desperately malnourished, were found just in time, their fragile lives hanging in the balance. Thankfully, a loving foster family opened their hearts and home, offering them warmth, care, and a second chance. The first time his fosters took Archer and his brother into the backyard, the fear of being abandoned again was overwhelming. They ran back to their fosters, crying and shaking, a heart-wrenching reminder of their difficult start. Archer's journey has been one of resilience and transformation. He's blossomed in his foster home, surrounded by a menagerie of furry and feathered friends – dogs, cats, goats, ducks, and chickens. He's learned the joy of playful romps with big dogs, the gentle art of respecting boundaries (mostly!), and the comfort of snuggling close to a warm lap. This sweet boy, with the most endearing face you've ever seen, is a cuddle connoisseur. He'll happily settle on your lap, or as close as he can get, showering you with affection. He's a true helper, always eager to be involved in whatever you're doing. He's treat-motivated, which makes training a breeze, though he might need some guidance to remember that everyone has their own food bowl! Archer is kennel trained, but he's used to a bustling household filled with love and activity. He sleeps with a pillow, often burrowing under blankets, and he cherishes the feeling of being held close – a comfort he discovered as a tiny, vulnerable pup. Now, at about five months old and 40 pounds, Archer is growing into a big, strong boy, but his heart remains as tender as ever. He's searching for a forever home where he can share his boundless love and loyalty. He'd thrive with a family who understands his gentle nature, continues his training, and cherishes his affectionate spirit. Archer's journey began in hardship, but his story is one of hope and the enduring power of love. Will you be the one to write the next chapter of his happy ever after?
