Story
Location: Baltimore, MD Maggie is an incredibly smart girl who is always ready for her next adventure. She loves people and thrives on human companionship. While she may take a few minutes to warm up to someone new, once she does, she’s all about snuggles, pets, and plenty of kisses. This girl is food motivated and eager to learn, making her a great candidate for continued training. She is already crate trained, potty trained, and walks nicely on a leash, giving her a strong foundation for success in her forever home. Maggie loves to run, play, and stay active. Whether she’s zooming around the yard, exploring on walks, or engaging her brain with training and enrichment activities, she’s happiest when she has an outlet for her energy and intelligence. Maggie could excel as a working dog, farm dog, or active companion for someone looking for a partner in adventure. If you’re looking for a smart, fun, and loving dog to share life’s adventures with, Maggie may be the perfect match!

Story
River is an old soul looking for his soulmate - could you be his person?  River had a tough start in life and came to PAW quite frightened of the world.  With the endless love and dedication of his foster family he has begun to feel secure - and to blossom.  Now he needs to find his forever home where a loving adopter will continue the process to help him to become the dog he is meant to be. River is a gentle giant.  At 2 & 1/2 and 70 pounds, he is a big fluffy love bug.  At first River can be anxious around new people and in new environments - but once warmed up, he loves people (including children) and other dogs. In fact, River must have another dog in the house as he follows the lead of his current foster brother and has learned so much from him! River loves running and playing in the yard.  Because he is still working on leash walking, River's forever home must have a fenced-in yard.  It will be important to continue leash training and exposure to new situations. This is the best way to build River's confidence and to teach him that the wide world is a fun place to explore!  River's daily medication helps calm him down, and this is something that his forever person will need to continue for River's benefit and comfort.  If you think you could be the one for River, apply to adopt today! PAW places animals in the DC, MD, northern VA, and southern PA area only. ##1836418##

Story
Meet Maxwell! Say hello to Maxwell — a big, goofy, loveable and absolutely charming boy who found himself in need of rescue through absolutely no fault of his own. Maxwell was surrendered by his previous family and although his heart is still healing from that loss this incredibly sweet and playful boy is ready to find the safe, loving and forever home he so deeply deserves. Maxwell's Story: Maxwell came to us when his previous family could no longer keep him — a situation that was completely out of his control and not a reflection of who he is in any way whatsoever. His former family described him as a big, goofy and immensely playful companion who brought joy and laughter into their home every single day. That dog is still very much in there — working through the confusion of losing everything familiar and slowly but surely letting his wonderful personality shine through again. What His Previous Family Said About Him: The people who knew Maxwell best described him as: Big & Goofy — Maxwell has a larger than life personality and a silly, playful nature that is completely and utterly endearing Immensely Playful — This boy loves to play and brings so much fun and energy to every interaction Perfectly House Trained — Maxwell is fully house broken and knows exactly how to behave in a home environment Crate Trained — Maxwell is comfortable and relaxed in his crate and uses it without any issues whatsoever Free Roams Peacefully — When left alone Maxwell is capable of free roaming the home without any adverse incidents. A truly remarkable quality that speaks to his calm and trustworthy nature History with Children & Dogs — Maxwell has previously lived successfully with both children and dogs of all sizes showing his adaptable and gentle nature Maxwell at the Shelter: We want to be completely honest about where Maxwell is right now because this sweet boy deserves nothing less than full transparency. The shelter environment has been genuinely difficult for this sensitive soul. Away from the only family he has ever known, surrounded by new faces and unfamiliar dogs passing his kennel, Maxwell has understandably experienced heightened anxiety and unease. But here is what is so remarkable about this boy — despite all of that our dedicated behavior team has watched him gradually open up and reveal the same loveable, goofy and wonderful personality his previous family fell so deeply in love with. That dog never went anywhere. He is right there, just waiting for the right environment to let him fully shine. Our behavior team is working hard to move Maxwell to a quieter section of the shelter where he can decompress and feel more at ease while he waits for his forever home. What Maxwell Needs: A Calm & Quiet Home — Maxwell is a sensitive boy who truly thrives in a peaceful environment where he can feel completely safe and secure Calm Canine Companions — Maxwell does beautifully in playgroups and enjoys the company of other dogs. He does best with calmer dogs as high energy canines can sometimes feel overwhelming for this gentle soul ‍‍ Child Free Environment Recommended — Although Maxwell has a positive history with children his tendency to be a little jumpy and nervous around new people means he would do best and feel most comfortable in a home without young children ⏳ Patience & Understanding — Maxwell may be cautious when meeting new people at first but given time, gentleness and consistency this boy will reward you with a loyalty and love that is truly beyond measure A Note About Maxwell: Maxwell did not choose this situation. He did not do anything wrong. He is simply a big hearted, goofy and loving boy who lost his family and is trying his very best to navigate a world that suddenly feels very uncertain and scary. He needs someone who sees past the nervousness and the shelter anxiety and recognizes what is truly underneath — A loyal, playful, sweet and absolutely wonderful companion who has so much love left to give and is desperately hoping someone will give him the chance to give it. Maxwell is longing for a safe, quiet and loving forever home where he can finally exhale, be himself completely and spend every single day being the goofy and devoted companion he was always meant to be. He has already been through so much. It is time for Maxwell's story to have the happy ending he so truly deserves. Could you be the one to give it to him?  ADOPTION FEE: $375.00 includes first 2 DAPP, bordetella, neuter, heartworm test, deworming, flea preventatives, microchip   If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application and a representative will get back to you shortly to answer any questions you may have.
