I'm Ana and I've been lucky enough to land in a foster home. I am just getting used to the new sounds and routine of the household, and I am slowly settling in. My foster Mom says I'm a real homebody, I am a little nervous on walks but I love the attention of my human. I love leaning in for a good petting onceI am comfortable with you. I am a bit underweight, but I’ll thrive with lots of love, attention and good food.  I am fine with other dogs and even cats, so I won’t mind sharing the affection. I would be most happy in a home where it is relatively quiet and where I can feel safe and loved. Won’t you consider opening your heart and home to this deserving girl? Ana would love to meet you!Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.    Adoption fees cover basic vetting, rabies (if puppy is old enough), distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, monthly heartworm prevention while in our care (if old enough), monthly flea/tick prevention while in our care, and transport costs. K-9 Lifesavers will also cover the cost of spay/neuter at our partner vet at 6 months of age or reimburse adopter for up to the amount of our partner vet cost should you choose to spay/neuter at your own vet.       Foster Program:    Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home.  For more information on becoming a foster parent, and our Foster Program, visit http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/foster/ or email our Foster Coordinator at foster@k-9lifesavers.orgSPONSOR ME! Help Save Lives!    Make a tax-deductible donation today and help save a life. ADOPT ME ONLINE: https://ophrescue.org/dogs/13367Greetings! My name is Serena, just like the tennis champ. Foster mom says I am a champion too – she says she is pretty sure I would take a blue ribbon in the category “Best Pups Available For Adoption on the East Coast of the United States of America.” A ribbon is fine; I just hope it comes with a frozen marrow bone. A pup can dream, and I dream BIG. Would you like to be a part of my dream? Come on in!Foster mom has learned that Serena is:-Super smart – she (a) is quickly becoming housetrained and will potty almost immediately on command on regular outings; (b) will sit and is getting better at wait; and (c) is learning not to jump up on people and not to counter surf. -Super sweet and affectionate, and loves to make new friends with humans and other pups. -Great on walks; she loves being outdoors and running free (although she checks back in regularly to make sure foster mom is still there).-Gentle as a lamb, and just as playful. She has coaxed foster mom’s grumpy 10-year old GSD into playing with her which is a gold medal first!-Brave – she generally embraces new experiences and new places with only an appropriate amount of caution.-Loves riding in the car – she settles down and starts to snooze within the first few minutes. - Does great in foster mom's office -- loves meeting all her colleagues and spends the day playing quietly with toys or sleeping.Serena just recently transitioned to a new foster home and is quickly learning to operate solo, including staying quietly in her crate or loose while alone. She continues to sleep quietly through the night secured in her crate. Serena is guessed to be an Anatolian Shepherd mix, born on December 20, 2023. Based on her mother’s size, she likely will top out in the 50-55 pound range when fully grown. She has not been tested with cats, but has not displayed a high prey drive while walking in the forest. See her in action here:First yard outingOn the leash

Come meet adoptable dogs every Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM - 4 PM at our Adoption Center located at 11116 Fairfax Station Rd. Fairfax Station, VA 22039. We can also schedule time to meet a specific dog at the Adoption Center during the week by appointment - just fill out the application and we will follow up with you! For animals in foster homes, please submit an online application and a member of our Adoptions team will reply with next steps. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out our dog adoption questionnaire and e-mail it to: barroso.selma@gmail.com Sudi is a super amazing dog from Iran , where she endured horrible cruelty that we cannot even begin to fathom. As a working farm dog, when she did not perform to her owner's satisfaction he cut off her front paws, dragged her behind a car and hit and kicked her. How she lived we do not know. But thankfully, an Iranian loving person rescued her and through a lot of hard work, Sudi left Iran for Canada and then made her way to us here at Homeward Trails. She recently was fitted for prosthetic feet and is doing remarkably well in them, getting a new lease on life that allows her to be more mobile. While we thought she may need hip surgery to replace her hip socket, we are currently waiting on that per her veterinarian orthopedist's suggestion to have a specialist determine if it is workable. For now, she remains on pain meds and steroids to address the issue, which may end up being her long-term solution. Sudi needs an adoptive family. She is great with all people but does not like other animals enough to live with them. It may be her low-level pain or fear but we have tried and we now know she wishes to be an only animal. This girl is a truly remarkable example of endurance and spirit. That she even trusts humans at all after what has been done to her is truly, truly inspiring. She will do best in a home with few stairs - or least a home where she can get inside/outside without many. She would love a yard where she can lounge in the sun. Whatever orthopedic issues come her way in the near future in terms of surgery will be covered by Homeward Trails. We are proud to partner with the following veterinarians who offer a free first exam for your animal, exclusively for HT adopters: Caring Hands Animal Hospital, Palisades Veterinary Clinic, Sunshine Animal Hospital and Clarendon Animal Care and all VCA Animal Hospitals. Additionally, any VCA hospital will cover illnesses up to $250 at no cost to any Homeward Trails adopter. We also provide free online workshop with a professional dog trainer at Fur-Get Me Not within the first 30 days of adopting - just for HT adopters in the Arlington/Alexandria/Falls Church/DC area. Start your new dog out on the right foot with this valuable, expert guidance FREE! You can save animals like this one by becoming a foster! Fosters are like way stations between high kill shelters and forever homes. We need fosters so that we can save dogs before they are euthanized at the shelters. Story
Odin is a pretty sweet dog, he likes to jump and sleep on furniture because he thinks he's human most days, which wasn't allowed in our home, but would make him the happiest pup in his new home. His only special need is that he doesn't like thunderstorms or fireworks, he gets very anxious with loud noises and we have a prescription for him to help keep him calm when a storm comes. No other special needs besides love, he's very lovey. He's also protective from afar, which has been great for me as a smaller woman, however, with his size, I was never really able to control him on the lease because he's stronger than I am, therefore he wasn't properly socialized and has never been to a dog park because I knew he would control me and not the other way around. He has lived with other dogs and children which was perfectly fine, and anyone who entered the house was safe also. It's just outside his home where I am unsure due to his strength and my lack of strength.

Story
Tall Titan, is a strong and remarkable  Warrior, a dog that has fought to be alive and walking  today on this earth.  He has willed himself to come from the depths of pain and starvation to become this handsome boy that you see right now.  He is our Super Hero Pup and our example of a creature that has never given up even when it would have been easier to just go to sleep and never wake up.  When Titan came to a rescue lady’s house that Critter Cavalry knows, this boy was malnourished and just a skeleton of the puppy he should be as a Great Dane.  The lady has a love for the Danes and she asked CCR to please take him into our rescue before she fell in love and couldn’t let him go.  She had enough dogs and just felt the temptation to keep him was too great.  We agreed and soon Titan was ours to raise and get prepped for a new home and family.  Shortly afterwards his foster family noticed he was struggling to walk and his joints were inflamed. Titan was taken to several vets before receiving the diagnosis of  Hypertrophic osteodystrophy (HOD). He has been put on a regimen of medications, high calorie food and hydrotherapy and is now running, jumping and playing with other dogs. His favorite things to do are play with toys, run and nap in the sun. Titan is a large dog and will do best in a home with another large dog or two that he will be able to play with. He will continue to need medication intermittently for some time and to be followed by a veterinarian.  If you have large breed dog experience and are willing to take on this fellas special needs please contact Critter Cavalry Rescue. He is not house trained to hold longer than 4 hours.  He needs to eat separately at mealtimes and he needs to learn better how to play with his toys in a group setting if there are other dogs.  If he is the only dog then there is no special monitoring.  Titan rides like a champ in the car or truck and he is definitely crate trained with good dog/name recall.  He would be easier to watch in the yard if you had a real physical fence installed since he likes to wander off out of curiosity.   Please email Critter Cavalry at ccrnewengland@gmail.com if you are interested.  He is great with young children/boys that are rough and tumble and lots of noise. PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comMay 6, 2024, 7:28 pm

Story
Laylah is a beautiful pure bred Great Dane that is 129 pounds and 4yrs young.  This girl lost her home because the other female Great Dane was jealous of her and jumping on her to create a fight.  The family could not afford for them to seriously hurt each other. It was best to have Laylah leave the home for her own safety. She is totally vetted and  spayed and is up to date on vaccines.  She came in scared and unsure of everything because of the turmoil she has been experiencing at her home.  After some work and socializing, she has come out of her shell and she loves to be by her person's side and will make a great companion for someone.  She would most likely need to be an only dog since she is still suffering from the fear of being attacked again by another dog.  She does not show fear to all dogs…but some of the larger ones she is defensive at the moment. She hasn't been off leash around cats but seems to not mind them walking by, even appeared playful through the glass with a cat in the cat colony. She has done well meeting new people but gets nervous if her secure shelter person leaves the room.  She shows this by waiting nose to the door until her person comes back. She walks great on a leash and hops right in the car and rides well. She loves to lay on her stuffies and play with her toys, just playing never destroys them. She will carry around the toy in her mouth just to show everyone what she has. In the mornings she gets the pony girl zoomies where she just yeehawws around the yard until she wears out then she is pretty reserved the rest of the day hanging out behind the shelter desk. When too many dogs are going in out it stresses her so she gets put up in an office until things settle down.  She doesn't seem to mind kids and she will greet them gently. Another plus is that she is also housebroken.
