Story
ADOPT ME ONLINE: https://ophrescue.org/dogs/13369Hi there! I'm Danica, I'm named after a racecar driver because I'm fast... at finding treats! 🐕💨Me with my mom and my 11 siblings arrived at OPH in January! I've made lots of friends here, but I'm ready for a forever home. I'm sweet, cuddly, and playful. I promise to bring joy, laughter, and lots of cuddles into your life! See me in action here:Danica ExploringFun things about me:I love to give kisses. I am working on walking great on a leash.I am working on potty training. I know sit and come already! I'm guessed to be an Anatolian Shepherd mix, I am 4.5 months old and weigh 25 lbs. I will be medium to large size as an adult. Are you ready for an adventure, then I am your Girl! Fill out my application soon, I am waiting for you now. I'm microchipped, up to date on age appropriate vaccines and monthly preventatives . i’m ready to go home with my new family. Could that be you?I'm still a baby and searching for...- Someone who won't leave me home alone for more than 4 hours, at least not until I am older. The older I am, the more I can stay home alone. I just don't want you to get mad at me if I have accidents or chew things I'm not supposed to when you leave me for too long. I'm a puppy, so I get bored quickly and when I'm bored I could get in trouble. - I am looking for my forever home, not my for right now home. So as I get bigger I need someone to teach me how to be the best dog I can be. I am young and still learning. You may want to teach me some new tricks like sit, stay, etc. That sounds like fun!

Story
This BIG friendly giant is Kevin! Kevin is a mellow dude who loves to lay on the floor and follow you around the house. Kevin likes to watch TV, try and steal your snacks, and insist on head scratches whenever possible. Kevin can be a bit shy and skittish and requires slow introductions, once he gets to know you, he is a big teddy bear! Kevin is currently learning how to live with a cat and finds it quite scary at times. He is very gentle and inquisitive. Because of Kevin's large size and skittishness, a family with small children would probably not be ideal for him. He has done great with older kids! Kevin is crate trained, walks well on a leash, and does not jump fences. Kevin would love a home with people to love on him and a smaller furry friend to play with. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.  If you are an approved adopter and are interested in this dog, please let your case worker know. Story
Are you looking for that companion who will give you endless love while acting a little goofy? Let us introduce you to Halia! This beautiful girl is looking for her furever home. We believe she is a multi-mix with primarily Anatolian Shepherd lineage. -    She is approximately 70lbs. and 2 years, 8 months old -    She is food motivated, but is gentle when taking treats -    Gets along with other dogs and loves to play -    She gets the zoomies when playing, but watch out! She may accidentally run you over! Once she’s gotten her zoomies out and has met you she wants nothing more than to be with you and shows this by leaning on you.  -    Gets along with adults and children but would do best with older children she won't accidentally knock over when she's playing. -    Ok with dog savvy cats but does have some prey drive with rabbits, squirrels and birds outside (and even an occasional butterfly) -    She has mastered the ‘sit’ command when given in conjunction with a treat or when waiting to go outside.  She has also learned "wait", and "down".  These will take continued training to master.   -    We are working on her leash skills and we have almost eliminated the jumping. - She is kennel trained and sleeps in her kennel all night. She is very sweet and will be an active companion, but once she has expended her energy she will most likely be a couch potato. She will take all the pets you can give her and return that with love and cuddling. Are you ready to open your heart and home to snuggling with this beautiful girl? Is so, please apply to adopt her today.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.  If you are an approved adopter and are interested in this dog, please let your case worker know. Story
Come meet adoptable dogs every Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM - 4 PM at our Adoption Center located at 11116 Fairfax Station Rd. Fairfax Station, VA 22039. We can also schedule time to meet a specific dog at the Adoption Center during the week by appointment - just fill out the application and we will follow up with you! For animals in foster homes, please submit an online application and a member of our Adoptions team will reply with next steps. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out our dog adoption questionnaire and e-mail it to: barroso.selma@gmail.com Sudi is a super amazing dog from Iran , where she endured horrible cruelty that we cannot even begin to fathom. As a working farm dog, when she did not perform to her owner's satisfaction he cut off her front paws, dragged her behind a car and hit and kicked her. How she lived we do not know. But thankfully, an Iranian loving person rescued her and through a lot of hard work, Sudi left Iran for Canada and then made her way to us here at Homeward Trails. She recently was fitted for prosthetic feet and is doing remarkably well in them, getting a new lease on life that allows her to be more mobile. While we thought she may need hip surgery to replace her hip socket, we are currently waiting on that per her veterinarian orthopedist's suggestion to have a specialist determine if it is workable. For now, she remains on pain meds and steroids to address the issue, which may end up being her long-term solution. Sudi needs an adoptive family. She is great with all people but does not like other animals enough to live with them. It may be her low-level pain or fear but we have tried and we now know she wishes to be an only animal. This girl is a truly remarkable example of endurance and spirit. That she even trusts humans at all after what has been done to her is truly, truly inspiring. She will do best in a home with few stairs - or least a home where she can get inside/outside without many. She would love a yard where she can lounge in the sun. Whatever orthopedic issues come her way in the near future in terms of surgery will be covered by Homeward Trails. We are proud to partner with the following veterinarians who offer a free first exam for your animal, exclusively for HT adopters: Caring Hands Animal Hospital, Palisades Veterinary Clinic, Sunshine Animal Hospital and Clarendon Animal Care and all VCA Animal Hospitals. Additionally, any VCA hospital will cover illnesses up to $250 at no cost to any Homeward Trails adopter. We also provide free online workshop with a professional dog trainer at Fur-Get Me Not within the first 30 days of adopting - just for HT adopters in the Arlington/Alexandria/Falls Church/DC area. Start your new dog out on the right foot with this valuable, expert guidance FREE! You can save animals like this one by becoming a foster! Fosters are like way stations between high kill shelters and forever homes. We need fosters so that we can save dogs before they are euthanized at the shelters. I'm Ana and I've been lucky enough to land in a foster home. I am just getting used to the new sounds and routine of the household, and I am slowly settling in. My foster Mom says I'm a real homebody, I am a little nervous on walks but I love the attention of my human. I love leaning in for a good petting onceI am comfortable with you. I am a bit underweight, but I’ll thrive with lots of love, attention and good food.  I am fine with other dogs and even cats, so I won’t mind sharing the affection. I would be most happy in a home where it is relatively quiet and where I can feel safe and loved. Won’t you consider opening your heart and home to this deserving girl? Ana would love to meet you!Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.    Adoption fees cover basic vetting, rabies (if puppy is old enough), distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, monthly heartworm prevention while in our care (if old enough), monthly flea/tick prevention while in our care, and transport costs. K-9 Lifesavers will also cover the cost of spay/neuter at our partner vet at 6 months of age or reimburse adopter for up to the amount of our partner vet cost should you choose to spay/neuter at your own vet.       Foster Program:    Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home.  For more information on becoming a foster parent, and our Foster Program, visit http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/foster/ or email our Foster Coordinator at foster@k-9lifesavers.orgSPONSOR ME! Help Save Lives!    Make a tax-deductible donation today and help save a life. Story
ADOPT ME ONLINE: https://ophrescue.org/dogs/13367Greetings! My name is Serena, just like the tennis champ. Foster mom says I am a champion too – she says she is pretty sure I would take a blue ribbon in the category “Best Pups Available For Adoption on the East Coast of the United States of America.” A ribbon is fine; I just hope it comes with a frozen marrow bone. A pup can dream, and I dream BIG. Would you like to be a part of my dream? Come on in!Foster mom has learned that Serena is:-Super smart – in just the past week she (a) is quickly becoming housetrained and will potty almost immediately on command on regular outings; (b) will sit and is getting better at wait; and (c) is learning not to jump up on people and not to counter surf. -Super sweet and affectionate, and loves to make new friends with humans and other pups. -Great on walks; she loves being outdoors and running free (although she checks back in regularly to make sure foster mom is still there).-Gentle as a lamb, and just as playful. She has coaxed foster mom’s grumpy 10-year old GSD into playing with her which is a gold medal first!-Brave – she generally embraces new experiences and new places with only an appropriate amount of caution.-Loves riding in the car – she settles down and starts to snooze within the first few minutes. Serena just recently transitioned to a new foster home and is quickly learning to operate solo, including staying quietly in her crate or loose while alone. She continues to sleep quietly through the night secured in her crate. Serena is guessed to be an Anatolian Shepherd mix, born on December 20, 2023. Based on her mother’s size, she likely will top out in the 50-55 pound range when fully grown. She has not been tested with cats, but has not displayed a high prey drive while walking in the forest. See her in action here:First yard outingOn the leash

Story
Needing to rehome this sweet boy. Preferably in the purcellville or surrounding area (northern virginia). He’s a 4 yo mastiff (from Korea!). Neutered, super well trained. We have had him for a few years but have recently undergone multiple big life changes and it’s just not fair to him. He’s a super social and active boy- he would do best with a family/other dogs in the home. And some space, as he's 120 lbs. We would like to meet/see the home of the potential adopter before moving forward- he deserves the best home. Feel free to ask any questions- thanks so much.
