Story
Meet Lady! Lady is a 2-year-old Kelpie/Bloodhound mix with a huge heart and a wicked-smart brain. She came from Dallas and has been thriving in her foster home ever since. Lady is deeply affectionate and bonds quickly, but she’s a little shy at first — especially around hands — and appreciates someone who lets her set the pace early on. Once she trusts you, she’s loyal, loving, and all-in. As a true working-breed mix, Lady is sharp, eager to learn, and loves having a “job.” If it moves, she’ll try to herd it, so she does best with adults and either as an only dog or with dogs who won’t mind her instincts. She absolutely shines with consistent direction, structure, and clear boundaries. Lady’s superpowers: Wicked smart + quick learner Treat-motivated and thrives with positive reinforcement Nose that never quits — she loves scent work and mental games Bonds deeply once she feels safe Lady is also working through a few things: she can be leash reactive, she has some resource-guarding tendencies, and she’s still learning to trust hands. The good news? She responds incredibly well to training and consistency. Her foster family, along with guidance from a trainer, has already given her a strong foundation — especially with her crate, which she now sees as her safe, cozy spot. Lady’s dream home: Adults only A yard for zoomies Someone steady, patient, and consistent An adopter excited to continue training (she loves it and learns fast!) If you want a smart, devoted, endlessly rewarding companion who’s ready to grow with you, Lady could be your girl. She just needs the right person to bring out her very best.  December 14, 2025, 8:53 pm

Story
Meet Kesha! Kesha is a happy, playful puppy who is settling into foster life nicely. She’s a little more excitable than calm right now, which is pretty classic puppy energy, but she’s already showing that she can learn and adapt with guidance. She loves to eat, play, and generally be a very good girl.   Like any young pup, Kesha can have some destructive moments, but she responds well when redirected to appropriate toys or bones. She’s also learning how to relax — after about 10 minutes on her own, she’s able to settle down, which is a great skill for a puppy her age.   Kesha is thrilled when her people return and can’t help herself from jumping to say hello (we know… it’s cute), but she’s already working on better manners. She’s learning to settle on her own and is practicing sitting politely before going through doors or heading outside.   Kesha would thrive in a home ready to continue basic training, provide structure, and embrace all the fun (and work!) that comes with a puppy. With consistency, patience, and lots of love, she’s going to be an awesome companion.  Kesha was rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas. Meet and greets are by appointment only.  An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time.  When we do, it will be updated here.  This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above.  Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free pet insurance.  We are not affiliated with MetLife pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect).  Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico.  While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances.   More questions?  Read our FAQs here: https://4p4l.org/faqs/  Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed.  ##2642524##

Story
Meet Ronda!Ronda is a sweet, playful gal who may be a little shy at first—but give her a few days, and she’ll blossom into your new best friend. She’s an active pup who loves to run around and is learning to play fetch (though sometimes she gets so excited she forgets to bring the toy back!). Ronda is adjusting wonderfully to life outside the shelter. She’s mostly potty trained and will let you know when she needs to go out, but if she can’t hold it, she’ll use potty pads. She gets so excited to play outside that she sometimes needs a gentle reminder that it’s also potty time. Walks are still a little intimidating for her, but with patience and encouragement, she’s learning that they can be fun. Ronda is a Kelpie mix, though on the smaller side—she may even have some Chihuahua in her. No matter her mix, she’s a lovable, playful companion who is eager to bond with her forever family. She would do best in a home without young children. Slow introductions to other dogs are best, and while she’s still figuring out cats, she knows to leave them alone when told. Ronda can’t wait to meet her perfect match. Come see her at an adoption event—she just might steal your heart! ##2461439##

Story
Adoption Fee: $475 When available, all animals are fixed in accordance with Colorado law, up to date on vaccines (may need boosters), and microchipped! What we know: Originally adopted from Espanola Humane and later returned after being left outside too often, which led to her escaping when left outdoors for extended periods of time. She is approximately 2 years old, spayed, and up to date on her vaccines *Ozma is smart, compact, and extremely athletic, which makes her a flight risk. Ozma's humans should have a plan for keeping her safely contained, a desire to practice ongoing training with her in order to properly exercise her brain AND build a strong bond, as well as living a lifestyle that affords her plenty of opportunities for hiking and outdoor enrichment. If left to be bored, Ozma will learn her own ways of being busy, like digging, climbing, and ultimately escaping, which was her original reason for being returned to the shelter. Please practice self-awareness if you are interested in Ozma. From the foster: Meet your next adventure buddy. Ozma (Ozzie) is a sweet, intelligent girl. She's great with kids and other dogs and would thrive in an active family that enjoys walks and outdoor fun. She’s potty-trained, eager to please, does well in her crate for several hours at a time and doesn't bark. Ozzie loves learning, knows basic commands, and would benefit from mental stimulation or something like agility training. While a little timid at first, she warms up quickly and forms strong bonds with her people. With her gentle personality and love of adventure, her fur-ever home will be lucky to have her. www.coloradopuppy.org/how-to-adopt

Story
We adopted Jack when he was 3 months old. He is now 6 years old. He is full of energy and very vocal. He has been raised around kids but we recently had another baby and we feel that he deserves to have more attention and mental stimulation than we can give him. He loves a good chest and tummy rub and loves running and playing. He can be a bit wild around younger children but would be fine with older children. He loves eating snow and being close to his people. He is smart and confident and would love to have another dog companion. His worst trait is that he likes to bark but I feel like he just needs consistent training to adjust time and place for it.
