Story
Meet Ronda!Ronda is a sweet, playful gal who may be a little shy at first—but give her a few days, and she’ll blossom into your new best friend. She’s an active pup who loves to run around and is learning to play fetch (though sometimes she gets so excited she forgets to bring the toy back!). Ronda is adjusting wonderfully to life outside the shelter. She’s mostly potty trained and will let you know when she needs to go out, but if she can’t hold it, she’ll use potty pads. She gets so excited to play outside that she sometimes needs a gentle reminder that it’s also potty time. Walks are still a little intimidating for her, but with patience and encouragement, she’s learning that they can be fun. Ronda is a Kelpie mix, though on the smaller side—she may even have some Chihuahua in her. No matter her mix, she’s a lovable, playful companion who is eager to bond with her forever family. She would do best in a home without young children. Slow introductions to other dogs are best, and while she’s still figuring out cats, she knows to leave them alone when told. Ronda can’t wait to meet her perfect match. Come see her at an adoption event—she just might steal your heart! ##2461439##

Story
Bambi is a sweet, sensitive girl looking for the right people to call her own! This petite gal might take a little bit to warm up, but once she does, her smile and play bows will be so worth it! And once you`re her human, she`ll be your sweet shadow, following you everywhere and then will be over the moon with excitement when you return home. Bambi lived with another dog in her previous home and has enjoyed play groups with dogs here at the shelter. She would love to go to a home with a kind, gentle canine buddy who can show her the ropes. Given how much Bambi loves other dogs and gains confidence from their presence, we`re requiring that she go to a home with another dog. Due to Bambi`s tender nature, HSBV will only rehome her to a family without children or with children over the age of 10.Our team described Bambi as: goofy, curious, and gentle!Bambi can be met with until 4:30pm so our Training & Behavior team can provide adoption counseling.

Story
"Four years ago, there was a little pup that fought for her life all alone on the side of the road while humans all around her evacuated due to Hurricane Ida. A passerby saw her and scooped her up, which surely saved her life. Having been a long time volunteer in animal rescue, her rescuer brought her home to CO and then reached out to MHCR for help. It didn’t take long for sweet, little, Roo’s dreams to come true. A wonderful family adopted her. Unfortunately, during the last couple of years, Roo, now known as Mara, began to not enjoy living with the other dog in the home. Right before the holidays, she found herself without her family, and without her home. Mara is now around 4.5-5 years old. She’s in need of an adoptive home as the only dog. Until then, she awaits her forever in a loving foster home. Mara is overweight, but once she sheds a few lbs she will fit into the medium/large category size. She’s house trained, crate trained, and trustworthy free roam. Here’s what her family said about her, and undoubtedly what she misses the most: “Mara loves cuddling more than anything. She mostly enjoys cuddling on the couch in your “pocket” (in between your legs). She will bury her head underneath pillows and blankets, and if she is able to sleep in the bed, then she will bury herself under the covers and snuggle up next to you in the cold months. She loves playing frisbee, tug of war, fetch with balls and sticks, and catching snowballs!” We’ve found Mara to be just as wonderful as her prior family did. She is playful, yet not high energy. She loves to catch balls and kill stuffies. She loves to take walks where she can leisurely explore and smell all the wonderful smells. She LOVES the snow and enjoys catching snowballs mid-air. She rides well in the car, jumps in on her own accord, and happily greets strangers. Mara’s favorite part of every day is when her humans spend time with her. She loves to snuggle yet isn’t needy and annoying about it. She is truly a turnkey dog that would make a wonderful addition to any home that’s not interested in puppy antics. The cold months are upon us. Can you help us warm Mara’s heart?" Mara Jade is being fostered in Denver, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs.* You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/mara-jade/. Lady, cattledog mix, 5 yo, 60 lb, spayed femaleLady is thin long-legged cattledog mix with the cutest face and floppy ears. She is curious and fascinated by all kinds of things. Lady spent months and months in limbo in boarding and was happy to join our gang and have a choice of playmates.  She is young and active, and needs a fenced yard.  Lady finds it most comforting to lie down close to you especially if she can somehow lean into you. It is hard to understand how this gentle angel, still almost a puppy, could be abandoned. We so hope to find stable loving home for her. Adoption fee $325. Story
Meet Waldo — our one-of-a-kind survivor  Waldo is a handsome 1-year-old Pitt-Heeler mix with a heart of gold and a story of strength. This gentle soul has been through more than most — he’s a distemper survivor, which left him with some neurological quirks and a little extra wobble (dance prance) in his step. But what really sets him apart isn’t what he’s been through… it’s how much love he still has to give.  Once a likely feral dog, Waldo’s world has been scary and unpredictable — but he’s learning what it means to feel safe, one day and one treat at a time. He’s still shy with strangers, but with his foster, he’s a total goofball: jogging everywhere he goes, prancing through the house, and proudly hogging every blanket and fuzzy pillow he can find.  Waldo is looking for a very special person — maybe that’s you? He needs a calm, patient, and loving home where safety and routine come first. Someone who:  Feels rewarded by earning trust, not instant affection  Can provide a secure yard and careful handling (he will bolt if scared — he earned his name that way!)  Understands that treats = love in Waldo’s world  Enjoys cozy nights in and slow progress that leads to a lifetime bond Waldo enjoys other dogs and could thrive with a confident canine buddy. Cats? Waldo LOVES cats, even if they don't always understand him. He may never be the dog who greets every stranger or walks perfectly at heel, but he’ll be your dog — loyal, silly, tender, and true. The kind of love that feels hard-won and absolutely worth it.  Waldo is looking for his Forever, or a new or even a part-time foster so we can get him used to, and more confident with, more people. If you can offer patience, safety, and a whole lot of heart, Waldo is waiting for you. Learn more or apply to meet him at EAPL.com.  His adoption fee is $375 January 5, 2026, 10:04 am
