Story
Meet Ronda!Ronda is a sweet, playful gal who may be a little shy at first—but give her a few days, and she’ll blossom into your new best friend. She’s an active pup who loves to run around and is learning to play fetch (though sometimes she gets so excited she forgets to bring the toy back!). Ronda is adjusting wonderfully to life outside the shelter. She’s mostly potty trained and will let you know when she needs to go out, but if she can’t hold it, she’ll use potty pads. She gets so excited to play outside that she sometimes needs a gentle reminder that it’s also potty time. Walks are still a little intimidating for her, but with patience and encouragement, she’s learning that they can be fun. Ronda is a Kelpie mix, though on the smaller side—she may even have some Chihuahua in her. No matter her mix, she’s a lovable, playful companion who is eager to bond with her forever family. She would do best in a home without young children. Slow introductions to other dogs are best, and while she’s still figuring out cats, she knows to leave them alone when told. Ronda can’t wait to meet her perfect match. Come see her at an adoption event—she just might steal your heart! ##2461439##

Story
Meet Lady! Lady is a 2-year-old Kelpie/Bloodhound mix with a huge heart and a wicked-smart brain. She came from Dallas and has been thriving in her foster home ever since. Lady is deeply affectionate and bonds quickly, but she’s a little shy at first — especially around hands — and appreciates someone who lets her set the pace early on. Once she trusts you, she’s loyal, loving, and all-in. As a true working-breed mix, Lady is sharp, eager to learn, and loves having a “job.” If it moves, she’ll try to herd it, so she does best with adults and either as an only dog or with dogs who won’t mind her instincts. She absolutely shines with consistent direction, structure, and clear boundaries. Lady’s superpowers: Wicked smart + quick learner Treat-motivated and thrives with positive reinforcement Nose that never quits — she loves scent work and mental games Bonds deeply once she feels safe Lady is also working through a few things: she can be leash reactive, she has some resource-guarding tendencies, and she’s still learning to trust hands. The good news? She responds incredibly well to training and consistency. Her foster family, along with guidance from a trainer, has already given her a strong foundation — especially with her crate, which she now sees as her safe, cozy spot. Lady’s dream home: Adults only A yard for zoomies Someone steady, patient, and consistent An adopter excited to continue training (she loves it and learns fast!) If you want a smart, devoted, endlessly rewarding companion who’s ready to grow with you, Lady could be your girl. She just needs the right person to bring out her very best.  December 14, 2025, 8:53 pm

Story
"Four years ago, there was a little pup that fought for her life all alone on the side of the road while humans all around her evacuated due to Hurricane Ida. A passerby saw her and scooped her up, which surely saved her life. Having been a long time volunteer in animal rescue, her rescuer brought her home to CO and then reached out to MHCR for help. It didn’t take long for sweet, little, Roo’s dreams to come true. A wonderful family adopted her. Unfortunately, during the last couple of years, Roo, now known as Mara, began to not enjoy living with the other dog in the home. Right before the holidays, she found herself without her family, and without her home. Mara is now around 4.5-5 years old. She’s in need of an adoptive home as the only dog. Until then, she awaits her forever in a loving foster home. Mara is overweight, but once she sheds a few lbs she will fit into the medium/large category size. She’s house trained, crate trained, and trustworthy free roam. Here’s what her family said about her, and undoubtedly what she misses the most: “Mara loves cuddling more than anything. She mostly enjoys cuddling on the couch in your “pocket” (in between your legs). She will bury her head underneath pillows and blankets, and if she is able to sleep in the bed, then she will bury herself under the covers and snuggle up next to you in the cold months. She loves playing frisbee, tug of war, fetch with balls and sticks, and catching snowballs!” We’ve found Mara to be just as wonderful as her prior family did. She is playful, yet not high energy. She loves to catch balls and kill stuffies. She loves to take walks where she can leisurely explore and smell all the wonderful smells. She LOVES the snow and enjoys catching snowballs mid-air. She rides well in the car, jumps in on her own accord, and happily greets strangers. Mara’s favorite part of every day is when her humans spend time with her. She loves to snuggle yet isn’t needy and annoying about it. She is truly a turnkey dog that would make a wonderful addition to any home that’s not interested in puppy antics. The cold months are upon us. Can you help us warm Mara’s heart?" Mara Jade is being fostered in Denver, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs.* You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/mara-jade/. Story
My name is Tessa, and I am a 9 year old pure-bred mini Australian Shepherd. I have been with one family for most of my life, but almost 2 years ago one of my humans passed away and my other one couldn't take care of me anymore. I have since been with my new family, but they have little children who make me really anxious and scared. I do best in a calm environment where I am the center of attention. Please no children, unless they are older (12 years +) and know how to be calm around me. I grew up with other pets, and can do well with other dogs, I just need to be slowly introduced. I do love cats and do great with them in the home. I am overall a really sweet girl, and will stick to you like glue once I get to know you! I take anxiety medication currently, and am on a special diet because I am overweight. I am up-to-date on all vaccines and will have a copy of my medical records upon adoption with me.
