GUST AND HIS BEST FRIENDS PLAN TO BE AT A MEET AND GREET SUNDAY DECEMBER 7 12:30 -2:30 AT PET EVOLUTION ON 1074 GRAND IN ST. PAUL. COME AND CUDDLE AND MAYBE GO HOME WITH A FRIEND FOR THE HOLIDAYS. Gust and his siblings were surrendered to PUP because the owner, who lived in a remote area, could not afford the pups and felt she could not find suitable adopters. The mommy dog is a much loved 30# ‘low rider’ with short legs (pictured). A partner organization agreed to pay for her to be spayed if PUP found homes for the puppies. The owner did a good job of socializing the pups and they arrived in good health. They are well socialized, playful and are enjoying the good life. Gust looks like he is going to be a bit taller than some of his siblings and we expect he will be a mid-sized dog when he is full grown. We did DNA testing on Gust but the results won’t be in until mid December. Dogs from the area who have DNA testing often have 20 or more breeds and nearly always have some shepherd, husky, cattle dog, and even the largest pooches have a bit of Chihuahua. We strongly suspect Gust has some Doxi and maybe some cattle dog in this mix. (Rumor has it that there is a male cattle dog on a neighboring ranch.) The early months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Adopters should be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations, hearing vacuums, trucks, and rattling garbage cans, meeting people who are clapping, laughing, with hats, tools, bikes and skate boards. AND puppy needs many opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. Just sharing a home with another dog is not as much doggie socializing as puppy needs. If good canine social skills are not learned and maintained during these early months, it will be very difficult to ever master them. Puppy play dates, trips to the pet store, puppy socialization classes and later, obedience classes are particularly important. If all this doggie time and involvement seems like a good idea, you are up for a puppy! As always, a tired dog is a good dog. Puppy has been vet checked, (he weighed 7.6# on 12-1) vaccinated and de-wormed. He will need two additional puppy vaccinations plus rabies at the adopter’s expense. We do place puppies outside the metro area if a firm plan for the alter surgery is in place; we do not ship. His required alter surgery is covered by the adoption fee if it is done at 6 months at the PUP clinic. We require that he be altered at 6 months. If you are at least 21 years old and everyone in your household is on board with adopting a puppy, CALL 651-645-4370 between 7:00 am and 9:30 pm and we will return your call within 24 hours. We are pretty slow at responding to e-mail. Renters must provide proof that you are allowed to have a puppy. If you currently have a companion dog or cat please be prepared to provide a vet reference prior to adoption if requested.

This handsome fellow and his siblings came in to rescue last winter after they were dumped on a back country road. Their mother was found deceased, so we took the puppies in to try to save them. They were very sick initially but are very healthy now. Big boy is a gentle boy but does love to run and play with other dogs. Big boy was the largest of the puppies, but his siblings have caught up to him. He has done amazing with his house and crate training. He is so deserving of a wonderful home to call his own. Meet Chip! This handsome boy is being fostered in East TN Athens. Out of state welcome. The adoption fee listed on adopt a pet includes transport to your area. We use Rescue Riders for all our transport needs because they are the best. Chip is such a sweet handsome boy. He is very affectionate and playful. He is a young boy almost a year old and curious as they come. He had the head tilt move to expert level. He wags his super short tail all the time. He’s a happy go lucky kind of boy. He was going to be euthanized due to time and space at our local shelter so we pulled him out to save him. He was adopted and then returned we were told he had some food guarding tendencies. Well we don’t see this at all in fact we accidentally forgotten on a few occasions about that and petted him while eating or moved his bowl while he was eating and he could have cared less. We are not sure if this was directed towards other dogs or not but we do not feed them together here. He has also not been possessive of any toys at all. He plays well with other dogs large and small. He is crate trained and is doing excellent at house training. He is still just a young pup so he would need to be treated like a puppy. Don’t leave things out for him to get into. Take him out to potty in his new home and praise him for going on the new yard etc. he’s a great dog and will make a lucky family very happy. We think he would do best with older kids because he does play pretty hard and would knock the smaller ones around. Apply at petpath.org.
