Story
Just look at this HANDSOME MAN!  Petey Is Ready for His Forever Home Petey is a very well-mannered, 7½-year-old Australian Shepherd who weighs approximately 50 pounds and is an absolute gentleman. He is currently being fostered in Sparta, TN and is more than ready to find the loving home he deserves. Petey was found roaming in a small East Tennessee town and was taken in by a kind Good Samaritan who searched for his owner—but sadly, no one ever came forward. His coat was heavily matted, and once he was able to visit a groomer, a very handsome boy emerged! Wanting the very best for him, his finder reached out for rescue, and Australian Shepherds Furever was happy to say yes. Petey has adjusted beautifully in his foster home. He is calm, laid-back, and truly lives up to the description of a perfect gentleman. He gets along great with other dogs and is good with children. While his experience with cats is unknown, he has been an easygoing and adaptable companion overall. Petey rides wonderfully in the car and loves going along for the adventure. He is completely house trained and enjoys simply being near his people.  Petey is:  Neutered  Heartworm negative  Up to date on vaccinations & on prevention  Microchipped The ideal home for Petey would be with a family or individual looking for a loyal best friend. He is eager to please, loves spending time with his person, and will make a truly wonderful companion. If you’re looking for a calm, affectionate Aussie who’s past the puppy stage and ready to settle into a loving home, Petey may be the perfect match for you. For more information or if you would like to make Petey a part of your family, you will find the link to our adoption application below. https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application There are some additional fees: $20 microchip transfer fee to register and transfer him to his new furever family. ##2504252##

Story
Meet Shuman, Shuman is a beautiful young, fast and sweet, Aussie mix. He is a lean, tall 50 lbs.  Shuman is neutered and UTD on vaccines and Heartworm/flee & tick prevention. He gets along with other well-mannered energetic dogs, but NOT cats. He is playful, loves toys, is good on a leash and is learning Sit, Down & Stay. This is all new to him so continued training will be necessary.  His foster mom thinks of him as a sweet puppy in a teenage dog body. Shuman came to us a little over a month ago from a Central California Shelter. He had been at the shelter for a month or so while awaiting his Stray hold to be done. It seems that Shuman had been on the streets, and it took Animal services a while to catch/trap him. The Shelter staff reached out to find him a foster because he was so shy and shut down. He wouldn’t eat or come out of the corner for affection. It was very unlikely that he would get adopted while at the shelter.  While at his foster home in Northern California, Shuman has taken a while to warm up and begin to trust his foster mom & dad. He is gaining confidence though and with that is showing his true puppylike personality. Though Shuman is still shy with people he does take to some people more quickly than others. He is leery of being caught or grabbed and will need time and lots of patience with his new people. Once Shuman learns to love and trust you, he’ll show his fun silly nature. He may even steal one of your socks to show how much he loves you.  Shuman will need a secure environment with a very well fenced yard. Because Shuman needs time to learn to trust his new people, he may try to ‘escape’ so should be kept on a leash (even in the fenced yard) for the first three weeks in his new home. Foster mom feels Shuman would do well with an active person, maybe someone who would like a running partner.  Shuman- Loves toys, Young dog, puppylike and gaining social confidence Needs other well-behaved dogs to model after NO CATS Chickens- not recommended for New owner- Patient Active and experienced dog owsner-maybe a runner?  If you sound like a great match for Shuman, here is the link to the app: https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application There is an additional $20 microchip fee which includes registration and transfer to his new family. All adoption fees are used for future rescue efforts. This handsome young boy is a sweet Aussie mix who is named after the kind pilot that flew himto his foster family in Auburn, CA.  Shu is a lean, tall 50 lbs., is neutered and UTD on vaccines and Heartworm/flee & tick prevention. He has quite a story… Shuman came from a Central California Shelter where he was not thriving. He was shut downand scared. Even animal control had a heck of a time trapping him off the streets. In the shelter, he was shy and wouldn’t eat or come out of the corner for affection. It was very likely he would have been euthanized had his foster parents not taken a chance to rehabilitate him. He is one lucky pup! Today, less than three months later, Shuman has blossomed. He plays well with other politedogs, loves toys, and is good on a leash. He has been learning some commands while with hisfoster family and knows Sit and Down. He is working on Stay and waiting at the thresholds. Shuman now trusts his foster mom and dad but needs time to warm up to strangers. He hasgained some confidence, and his true puppy-like personality is showing through. He has begunto walk up to neighbors for pets and treats while out on walks and greet his foster family at the door with a wagging tail. Shuman loves his balls too and will bark enthusiastically for ball play. Sometimes he entertains himself by throwing the ball up and catching it. How Aussie is that?Shu is crate trained and will need one in his new home because it’s his safe place when hefeels afraid or needs a break. In the evening, Shuman looks for something to chew on, so hiscrate is a good place for him to enjoy a chew toy or bully stick. You know the saying: You get out of a relationship what you put into it? With Shu, it will be that way. Shuman will need lots of patience with his new people. He occasionally will chew on things. He shouldn't but takes redirection well. He is not a dog you will meet and get lots of love from instantly. He says,” I am no labrador!”  He will need a secure environment with a very well fenced yard; he may try to ‘escape’ if he gets frightened so should be kept on a leash (even in the fenced yard) for the first few weeks in his new home for insurance. Shuman is afraid of quick movements and does not like loud popping noises like gunshots or chopping wood and will seek a place to hide when he hears them. This sweetie has a really good off switch and will relax most of the day but he loves to get his walkies out in the morning and evening so will do well with an active person, maybe someone who would like a running partner. No cats, chickens or other small animals please. Once Shuman learns to love and trust you, he’ll show his fun, silly nature. We think he hasmade incredible gains in a short time and will continue to be a Good Boy with the rightEXPERIENCED family. He may even ‘sit pretty’ and put his paws on you for affection which isso endearing; when he does this, you’ll know you’ve become his person. Please consider thisboy. He deserves a soft warm bed with you to cuddle with! If he sounds perfect for your family, here is the application: https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoptions There is an additional $20 microchip fee which includes registration and transfer to his new furever family.   All adoption fees are used for future rescue efforts. I’m Shuman, Cool name huh? I am named after the very kind pilot that flew me from central California to my Foster family in Auburn Ca. The flight was terrifying for me but not as bad as being left on the streets to fend for myself or the loud and scary shelter ASF rescued me from. That all seems ages ago. I’ve been with my foster family for eight months now! I love them, they are so kind and have helped me become confident and healthy. These days, I play with their dogs nicely, sleep in a comfy crate and go on trips with them. I would love to have a young dog friend to play with when I go to my new home. I am a nervous guy and having another friendly dog around who knows the ropes helps me to feel safe. I love meeting new people, and it would be so nice to meet you! I might not show you my best qualities right away though. I’ll need some time to learn to trust you, but when I do… I am certain you’ll love my goofy, fun personality. I’ve been learning about kitties and chickens and have gotten a lot better about listening to my foster parents about not chasing them when they say ‘Leave It’. I would really like to chase them though. My foster parents are careful that I don’t and they taught me to play fetch to help me get my chase needs met. And now… I LIVE for the ball! My foster parents think I had a mixed past, one of love and of some harsh treatment. They say I am adorable and think I’d been trained to do some very cute things. BUT, I am also very nervous around loud noises and quick movements, especially when people move their feet quickly. Sometimes, even the toaster frightens me and when it does, I run to my crate or hideunder the desk with my nose in the corner. I’m a really good dog if I am not bored and have a secure place to be. I like to go for walks, and I like a lot of time to sniff around and explore. I know it’s best to do this with my owner, but if they don’t take me on walks, I will go by myself given the chance. I rest well after 15 minutes or so of ball play a couple of times a day and a walk. I really like to run so would like a big secure yard to play in. I’d like to go for hikes with you but I need to be kept on a leash. I am curious and when I get frightened, I run away. Sometimes when we go for walks, I get to see other dogs and little humans. I like meeting them all and am very curious about the little humans, they seem familiar to me. I take treats nicely from them but I would also like to herd them. Foster mom thinks I’ll knock them down so she doesn’t let me play with them. From my foster mom:Shuman is a 1.5 - 2 y/o Male Border Collie mix. He weighs about 50 lbs., is neutered, microchipped and UTD on vaccines and Heartworm/flea & tick prevention. Shuman will take more time to warm up and feel comfortable in a new home than some other dogs. His new family will need to be very patient, gentle and willing to work with a trainer if needed. Experience with working dogs is also required. You’ll need to be able to keep him secure because, true to his Border Collie nature, he is clever and will find a way to escape if he feels afraid or bored. He is very difficult to retrieve if he gets loose when he is frightened. We keep him indoors (crated) or in a very secure yard when we leave the house. When we take him to new places, we keep him on a long leash until we are confident that he’ll come back to us. These days, if we keep him engaged by playing ball or other games, he stays with us. Though Shuman is sweet to children, I suspect his herding nature will be an issue so I don’t recommend he live with children younger than 8 y/o.  We think Shuman would also do best withprimarily a Female handler. If interested in Shuman please contact Australian Shepherds Furever ataustralianshepherdsfurever@gmail.com or fill out an application found herehttps://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application There is an additional $20 microchip fee which includes registration and transfer to his new furever family. ##2136526##

COMING SOON AND NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS! ULTIMATE VELCRO DOG ALERT Now accepting applications for Zacho in Johnson City, Tennessee! Meet Zacho — estimated 1–2 years old, about 55 lbs, and proudly holding the titles of Best Wiggle Butt and Brightest Smile in Town Zacho came to ASF as an unclaimed stray found along the Tennessee–Alabama state line. While his past is a mystery, his present (and future!) is full of love, joy, and devotion. Zacho lives for his people. And we mean lives. His favorite place? Right by your side. Whether he’s supervising chores, helping you make very important decisions at Lowe’s or Tractor Supply, or curling up for end-of-day snuggles, Zacho is happiest when he’s close. If you’re looking for a true velcro soul dog, Zacho may be your perfect match Out and about, Zacho is a social butterfly who hasn’t met a stranger yet. He sits politely while his foster parents browse and chat, soaking up attention everywhere he goes. He may need a gentle reminder not to jump during initial greetings (he’s just excited!), but once that passes, he settles beautifully and is always happy to roll over for a belly rub. With other dogs, Zacho is incredibly respectful. He shares treats, toys, and nylabones without issue and has shown zero aggression or resource guarding. He’d love a canine sibling, though it’s not required. Kids 10+ would be a great fit. Zacho is not compatible with cats, bunnies, chickens, or other small pets. Zacho will thrive in a home that offers continued training, regular exercise, and mental stimulation Potty trained Mostly crate trained (treats help!) Sleeps quietly through the night Leash skills improving every day Zacho is heartworm-negative, up to date on vaccines and monthly preventatives, and is scheduled to be neutered on February 5th. He’ll be ready to go home once he’s recovered. If Zacho sounds like your boy, please fill out an application — he’s ready to be someone’s shadow, best friend, and biggest fan If you think Zacho is the boy for you, feel free to put an application to get pre-qualified to adopt this Handsome boy!  https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application There are some additional fees: $20 microchip transfer fee to register and transfer him to his new furever family. ##2634463##

Story
Available Now – Rory! Fostered in Falls Church, VA After being abandoned in Texas at a boarding facility, Rory has shown just how resilient she is by acclimating beautifully to the cold and snow of Falls Church, Virginia . Rory is a young and spunky 10-year-old Aussie who is healthy and up to date on vaccinations. Rory loves to play and especially enjoys romping with my male Aussies . She’s a clever girl who truly thinks while she plays — cutting off passes during chase games and anticipating the next move. While playing, she can be very vocal, offering rumbly, snarly sounds along with enthusiastic play bows . It may sound intense at first, but it’s all show and part of her expressive play style. Rory can be a bit of a bossy boots . She resource guards her food only from other dogs, so she eats separately and does just fine. High-value items are reserved for crate time. She loves stuffies and tug-of-war is her favorite game! She used to guard her toys, but has learned that playing together is way more fun. She is all Aussie — including a strong prey drive for squirrels . She’s interested in cats but hasn’t been given full freedom around them yet. Rory thrives with structure, consistency, and leadership. If not given direction, she’s happy to take the lead herself — but she’s doing wonderfully with boundaries and routine. Rory is extremely people-oriented and loves affection. No stranger danger here! She happily loves both men and women and has done well meeting children ages 10 and up . She has good leash manners, though squirrels can cause some pulling. She is mildly reactive to other dogs but easily redirected, especially since she is very food-motivated — making training much easier. Rory knows sit, down, shake, is crate trained, and sleeps soundly through the night from 9:00 PM – 7:00 AM . Being left alone has been hard for her, likely a result of her abandonment, but she is improving steadily . We no longer hear her barking when we leave, and a frozen Kong with peanut butter keeps her happily occupied . She also loves puzzle toys and solves them quickly . At this time, Rory does not enjoy grooming and needs patience to build trust. She may snarl or act tough but has never bitten, and this behavior continues to diminish. She also doesn’t like her collar being grabbed, which is why small children are not recommended. Aussie-savvy kids 10+ should be just fine. Rory is a true Velcro pup and would thrive in a furever home familiar with strong-willed Aussies — a home that provides guidance, play, walks, snuggles, and companionship. She loves being with her people, interacting, “talking,” and connecting in a way that feels almost magical . She would do best with people who are home often and enjoys outings to cafes and parks. Rory would love a dog playmate but would also be happy as an only dog. It took her about one week to fully settle in with our two Aussies, and now they’re great pals. With guidance, she could also learn to coexist with a cat. If Rory sounds like the perfect match for your home, please reach out to ASF with your interest . If you think Rory is the Girl for you, feel free to put an application to get pre-qualified to adopt this Beautiful Girl!  https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application There are some additional fees: $20 microchip transfer fee to register and transfer her to her new furever family. ##2606831##

Story
Hi there! I’m Ryder. Born in 2019 (I think), 40 pounds of handsome, and I am a Border Collie mix. I’ve had all my shots and had that surgery on my unmentionables.  Foster Mama says that like most Border Collies, I’m “a little intense.” I LOVE playing fetch. I mean, I LOVE playing fetch. I’ll fetch tennis balls, frisbees, and other toys, but my absolute favorite is a little squeaky football Foster Mama got me. I also love my JollyBall.  My best quality is that I am very affectionate with people I like and trust. I love to be pet and to sit with and lean on my favorite people. I also give kisses and just want to be near you but I also like to explore and mostly to play   I will keep your yard bird free, cuz next to playing fetch with my football, chasing birds (and butterflies, blowing leaves...) is what I love best. Like most Border Collies, I am very sensitive to things that move or things that have changed. I have a routine for every time I go outside. I potty in pretty much the same place every time. I’m also a very fast learner and had the routine at my foster home down after one day. Once I figure out what you want me to do, I get it in a snap. I am good in a crate and don't chew up my bed. Because I spent years in an apartment using pee pads, housetraining is a challenge for me, so keeping me in a crate or a mistake-tolerant area when you can't watch me is a good idea   Toys: Like I said, balls and anything I can fetch are my absolute favorite. I haven’t destroyed my plushies, but they’re just not my thing. I also don’t really care about the chew toys Foster Mama gave me. Sometimes I get really excited about my squeaky ball and I can get a bit grabby and jumpy when you try and take it from me, but I’m trying to remember to be good. A Chuck-It or something like it is best for me, We are working on it  Foster Mama always asks me to "drop" a toy, and I am reminded to stay "back" rather than being impatient and rushing to pick it up  We are working on "give." Treats: I can be slow to eat when I’m nervous, but I love treats. Mama gives me these jerky treats I really love, and I also love pill pockets. Don’t know why they call them that, but maybe I eat them so fast I don’t even notice the pills in the pockets. They’re peanut butter flavored – YUM.  Things you should understand about me: I need a Mom or Dad experienced with Border Collies if you’re going to adopt me. Foster Mama says I am not a first dog kind of guy, and I’m not the couch potato type. If you want a dog you can play with though, I’m your guy! I lived with kids, but am probably better with older kids since I can get a little grabby when I’m not paying attention. I am slow to trust strangers (although some people I like right away). If you have a lot of people come to visit you in your house, I may not be the best fit, or you’ll want to be comfortable with proper introductions for dogs like me that take some time to warm up to strangers. I am a little choosy about men (sorry guys)   I don’t like it when there’s a fence (or crate) between me and something I’m interested in, so I can bark and seem mean sometimes. But once I'm out, I'm good. And I love exercise. Foster Mama says that I should probably live somewhere that can give me at least an hour of exercise every day – fetch, or training, or frisbee, or something that gives me a job. Foster Mama and I play fetch about three times a day. I like being busy. If I get regular activity, I am really well behaved. Inamnalsonom medication for my anxiety, which I will have to stay on. It really helps me not to be so bothered by things, and it helps me to be able to focus on training. I have lots of zoomie moments and love to do laps around the yard when I’m outside. I need a fenced yard so I can get my zoomies out and not get into trouble with cars and people and pets going by. Foster Mama says that because I like chasing birds so much, I’m probably better off at a home where there aren’t other small animals like cats. I can’t help it – it’s fun to chase the birds and butterflies and watch them fly away. I would be a great fit for someone who wants to explore competitive frisbee, flyball, or lure coursing. I am reactive to other dogs though (we are working on it)?so would need venues that understand that.   If you are a Border Collie fan and interested in seeing if I am the right dog for you, please fill out the application at: https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application There is an additional $20 microchip fee which includes registration and transfer to my new furever family. ##2147346##
