Story
Jarvis is a 5 year old Miniature Austrailain Shepard mixed with another unknown breed. Now that he is full grown, I would not say he is miniature though. He weighs between 30-35 pounds. We got him during Covid and he really has only been around our family and our other dog. He is loving, fun dog but can be a little skittish. He barks when he is nervous. We have been asked to leave our home after 20 years and are getting ready to purchase a manufactured home that doesn't have a yard. I would really like to find him a home where he can be able to access outdoor space and have a place to play. He is also crate trained and goes to his crate even when not being locked up. Its his own little personal safe space. I think I good fit for him might also be maybe a single person who wants a traveling companion where he can just be with them all the time.

Story
Shuman is a 2-year-old male Border Collie mix who came to us from a rural California shelter after being picked up as a stray. We don’t know what life looked like for him before the shelter, but it’s clear he may have spent time on his own or experienced some confusing interactions with people. When he first arrived, Shuman was nervous, skittish, and unsure who to trust. But from day one, he was immediately good with other dogs — a huge plus for this sensitive boy. A True Herding Dog at Heart Shuman is very much your typical herding breed: Busy mind Needs engagement Thrives with structure and purpose When he’s mentally and physically fulfilled, he shows his more relaxed side. Inclusion is everything for this boy — he wants to be part of your world, not watching from the sidelines. What Shuman Loves Playing with his foster dog siblings Walks and outdoor adventures BALL! (Did we mention he LOVES playing ball?) Being included in daily life He is playful, fun, and incredibly rewarding to engage with. When introductions are handled slowly and thoughtfully, Shuman can do well with new people. Shuman’s Ideal Home To truly thrive, Shuman needs: An experienced, patient handler A fully secured yard Someone committed to building trust with a nervous dog An active lifestyle Bonus (but strongly encouraged): A well-socialized resident dog to help him continue building confidence Another stable, people-friendly dog could be a wonderful role model for Shuman and help accelerate his progress. The Right Home Will See His Heart Shuman has so much love to give — it just needs to be unlocked in the right setting. With time, reassurance, and consistent guidance, he will be deeply loyal and devoted to his people. He is: Neutered Microchipped Up-to-date on vaccinations Shuman is long overdue for his forever home. The right family will not only change his life — they’ll gain a devoted companion who will treat them right for years to come. https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application There is an additional $20 microchip fee which includes registration and transfer to his new family. All adoption fees are used for future rescue efforts. This handsome young boy is a sweet Aussie mix who is named after the kind pilot that flew himto his foster family in Auburn, CA.  Shu is a lean, tall 50 lbs., is neutered and UTD on vaccines and Heartworm/flee & tick prevention. He has quite a story… Shuman came from a Central California Shelter where he was not thriving. He was shut downand scared. Even animal control had a heck of a time trapping him off the streets. In the shelter, he was shy and wouldn’t eat or come out of the corner for affection. It was very likely he would have been euthanized had his foster parents not taken a chance to rehabilitate him. He is one lucky pup! Today, less than three months later, Shuman has blossomed. He plays well with other politedogs, loves toys, and is good on a leash. He has been learning some commands while with hisfoster family and knows Sit and Down. He is working on Stay and waiting at the thresholds. Shuman now trusts his foster mom and dad but needs time to warm up to strangers. He hasgained some confidence, and his true puppy-like personality is showing through. He has begunto walk up to neighbors for pets and treats while out on walks and greet his foster family at the door with a wagging tail. Shuman loves his balls too and will bark enthusiastically for ball play. Sometimes he entertains himself by throwing the ball up and catching it. How Aussie is that?Shu is crate trained and will need one in his new home because it’s his safe place when hefeels afraid or needs a break. In the evening, Shuman looks for something to chew on, so hiscrate is a good place for him to enjoy a chew toy or bully stick. You know the saying: You get out of a relationship what you put into it? With Shu, it will be that way. Shuman will need lots of patience with his new people. He occasionally will chew on things. He shouldn't but takes redirection well. He is not a dog you will meet and get lots of love from instantly. He says,” I am no labrador!”  He will need a secure environment with a very well fenced yard; he may try to ‘escape’ if he gets frightened so should be kept on a leash (even in the fenced yard) for the first few weeks in his new home for insurance. Shuman is afraid of quick movements and does not like loud popping noises like gunshots or chopping wood and will seek a place to hide when he hears them. This sweetie has a really good off switch and will relax most of the day but he loves to get his walkies out in the morning and evening so will do well with an active person, maybe someone who would like a running partner. No cats, chickens or other small animals please. Once Shuman learns to love and trust you, he’ll show his fun, silly nature. We think he hasmade incredible gains in a short time and will continue to be a Good Boy with the rightEXPERIENCED family. He may even ‘sit pretty’ and put his paws on you for affection which isso endearing; when he does this, you’ll know you’ve become his person. Please consider thisboy. He deserves a soft warm bed with you to cuddle with! If he sounds perfect for your family, here is the application: https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoptions There is an additional $20 microchip fee which includes registration and transfer to his new furever family.   All adoption fees are used for future rescue efforts. Shuman-Sweet and silly, but nervous initiallyCrate trained, knows basic commands (Sit, Down, Wait, Leave-it)Clever and trainableGood on a leashWill run if frightenedHard to retrieveGood with dog savvy Cats You-Very Patient handler (preferably Female)Very secure home environment and yardWilling to use a crateChildren over 8 y/o okayHave another friendly dog Hi! I’m Shuman, Cool name huh? I am named after the very kind pilot that flew me from central California to my Foster family in Auburn Ca. The flight was terrifying for me but not as bad as being left on the streets to fend for myself or the loud and scary shelter ASF rescued me from. That all seems ages ago. I’ve been with my foster family for eight months now! I love them, they are so kind and have helped me become confident and healthy. These days, I play with their dogs nicely, sleep in a comfy crate and go on trips with them. I would love to have a young dog friend to play with when I go to my new home. I am a nervous guy and having another friendly dog around who knows the ropes helps me to feel safe. I love meeting new people, and it would be so nice to meet you! I might not show you my best qualities right away though. I’ll need some time to learn to trust you, but when I do… I am certain you’ll love my goofy, fun personality. I’ve been learning about kitties and chickens and have gotten a lot better about listening to my foster parents about not chasing them when they say ‘Leave It’. I would really like to chase them though. My foster parents are careful that I don’t and they taught me to play fetch to help me get my chase needs met. And now… I LIVE for the ball! My foster parents think I had a mixed past, one of love and of some harsh treatment. They say I am adorable and think I’d been trained to do some very cute things. BUT, I am also very nervous around loud noises and quick movements, especially when people move their feet quickly. Sometimes, even the toaster frightens me and when it does, I run to my crate or hideunder the desk with my nose in the corner. I’m a really good dog if I am not bored and have a secure place to be. I like to go for walks, and I like a lot of time to sniff around and explore. I know it’s best to do this with my owner, but if they don’t take me on walks, I will go by myself given the chance. I rest well after 15 minutes or so of ball play a couple of times a day and a walk. I really like to run so would like a big secure yard to play in. I’d like to go for hikes with you but I need to be kept on a leash. I am curious and when I get frightened, I run away. Sometimes when we go for walks, I get to see other dogs and little humans. I like meeting them all and am very curious about the little humans, they seem familiar to me. I take treats nicely from them but I would also like to herd them. Foster mom thinks I’ll knock them down so she doesn’t let me play with them. From my foster mom:Shuman is a 1.5 - 2 y/o Male Border Collie mix. He weighs about 50 lbs., is neutered, microchipped and UTD on vaccines and Heartworm/flea & tick prevention. Shuman will take more time to warm up and feel comfortable in a new home than some other dogs. His new family will need to be very patient, gentle and willing to work with a trainer if needed. Experience with working dogs is also required. You’ll need to be able to keep him secure because, true to his Border Collie nature, he is clever and will find a way to escape if he feels afraid or bored. He is very difficult to retrieve if he gets loose when he is frightened. We keep him indoors (crated) or in a very secure yard when we leave the house. When we take him to new places, we keep him on a long leash until we are confident that he’ll come back to us. These days, if we keep him engaged by playing ball or other games, he stays with us. Though Shuman is sweet to children, I suspect his herding nature will be an issue so I don’t recommend he live with children younger than 8 y/o.  We think Shuman would also do best withprimarily a Female handler. If interested in Shuman please contact Australian Shepherds Furever ataustralianshepherdsfurever@gmail.com or fill out an application found herehttps://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application There is an additional $20 microchip fee which includes registration and transfer to his new furever family. ##2136526##

Story
Lilly is a 4-year-old, spayed Australian Shepherd who has made INCREDIBLE progress during her time in foster care — and she is so ready for her forever home! For nearly six months, Lilly has been fostered in New Kent, Virginia by a professional dog trainer. The transformation has been amazing. This girl has put in the work!   A True Herding Girl Lilly is every bit the herding pup who LOVES what’s hers — especially her people. She is: FULL of energy Extremely smart Eager to please Deeply bonded to her person She would absolutely thrive with a job — whether that’s farm chores, hiking adventures, agility, scent work, or simply being your constant sidekick. Neighborhood leash walks? Not really her vibe. Wide open spaces and purposeful activity? YES please.   Dog & Animal Compatibility Lilly loves certain dogs (no doodles, please ) and is particular when meeting new ones. She requires a proper meet-and-greet with any potential dog sibling. She would do well with a younger, playful dog. She listens beautifully to direction during introductions. Cats? She generally ignores them — until they run. Then her herding brain kicks in and she wants to chase. She has also been around chickens and goats and does well with supervision and clear direction.   Smart & Responsive Lilly listens incredibly well and knows commands like: “Leave it” Redirection cues Solid recall She is spectacular off-leash — she loves to explore but never strays far from her person. She is fully house trained and loves her kennel as her safe space.   Her Ideal Home Lilly needs: An experienced Aussie or herding-breed adopter Someone who understands she may be suspicious/reactive until properly introduced A structured environment with mental and physical outlets Older children only (she can be obsessive/possessive with babies and toddlers) A farm or rural property would be a dream — but she also wants to be an indoor companion who lays at your feet and rolls over for belly rubs.   The Best of Both Worlds Lilly is: Loyal Loving Devoted Ready to go whenever you are She wants to be your adventure buddy AND your couch companion. Lilly truly is a special girl who has worked so hard and deserves the very best home to continue thriving. Fostered in New Kent, Virginia If you think Lilly is the girl for you,  please submit our adoption application at the link below! https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application There are some additional fees: $20 microchip transfer fee to register and transfer her to her new furever family ##2500557##

Story
Hi there! I’m Ryder. Born in 2019 (I think), 40 pounds of handsome, and I am a Border Collie mix. I’ve had all my shots and had that surgery on my unmentionables.  Foster Mama says that like most Border Collies, I’m “a little intense.” I LOVE playing fetch. I mean, I LOVE playing fetch. I’ll fetch tennis balls, frisbees, and other toys, but my absolute favorite is a little squeaky football Foster Mama got me. I also love my JollyBall.  My best quality is that I am very affectionate with people I like and trust. I love to be pet and to sit with and lean on my favorite people. I also give kisses and just want to be near you but I also like to explore and mostly to play   I will keep your yard bird free, cuz next to playing fetch with my football, chasing birds (and butterflies, blowing leaves...) is what I love best. Like most Border Collies, I am very sensitive to things that move or things that have changed. I have a routine for every time I go outside. I potty in pretty much the same place every time. I’m also a very fast learner and had the routine at my foster home down after one day. Once I figure out what you want me to do, I get it in a snap. I am good in a crate and don't chew up my bed. Because I spent years in an apartment using pee pads, housetraining is a challenge for me, so keeping me in a crate or a mistake-tolerant area when you can't watch me is a good idea   Toys: Like I said, balls and anything I can fetch are my absolute favorite. I haven’t destroyed my plushies, but they’re just not my thing. I also don’t really care about the chew toys Foster Mama gave me. Sometimes I get really excited about my squeaky ball and I can get a bit grabby and jumpy when you try and take it from me, but I’m trying to remember to be good. A Chuck-It or something like it is best for me, We are working on it  Foster Mama always asks me to "drop" a toy, and I am reminded to stay "back" rather than being impatient and rushing to pick it up  We are working on "give." Treats: I can be slow to eat when I’m nervous, but I love treats. Mama gives me these jerky treats I really love, and I also love pill pockets. Don’t know why they call them that, but maybe I eat them so fast I don’t even notice the pills in the pockets. They’re peanut butter flavored – YUM.  Things you should understand about me: I need a Mom or Dad experienced with Border Collies if you’re going to adopt me. Foster Mama says I am not a first dog kind of guy, and I’m not the couch potato type. If you want a dog you can play with though, I’m your guy! I lived with kids, but am probably better with older kids since I can get a little grabby when I’m not paying attention. I am slow to trust strangers (although some people I like right away). If you have a lot of people come to visit you in your house, I may not be the best fit, or you’ll want to be comfortable with proper introductions for dogs like me that take some time to warm up to strangers. I am a little choosy about men (sorry guys)   I don’t like it when there’s a fence (or crate) between me and something I’m interested in, so I can bark and seem mean sometimes. But once I'm out, I'm good. And I love exercise. Foster Mama says that I should probably live somewhere that can give me at least an hour of exercise every day – fetch, or training, or frisbee, or something that gives me a job. Foster Mama and I play fetch about three times a day. I like being busy. If I get regular activity, I am really well behaved. Inamnalsonom medication for my anxiety, which I will have to stay on. It really helps me not to be so bothered by things, and it helps me to be able to focus on training. I have lots of zoomie moments and love to do laps around the yard when I’m outside. I need a fenced yard so I can get my zoomies out and not get into trouble with cars and people and pets going by. Foster Mama says that because I like chasing birds so much, I’m probably better off at a home where there aren’t other small animals like cats. I can’t help it – it’s fun to chase the birds and butterflies and watch them fly away. I would be a great fit for someone who wants to explore competitive frisbee, flyball, or lure coursing. I am reactive to other dogs though (we are working on it)?so would need venues that understand that.   If you are a Border Collie fan and interested in seeing if I am the right dog for you, please fill out the application at: https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application There is an additional $20 microchip fee which includes registration and transfer to my new furever family. ##2147346##

Story
Dillon was 1.5yrs young when we adopted him from Milpitas Humane Society in 2019. He had an ear infection being treated at the time. Recently it came back. Besides that he is happy and healthy. We live with 3 children (2 teens and a toddler) and Dillon is very gently with them and is always excited to see them coming home from school. Unfortunately we are relocating and downsizing and overall don’t have time and can not afford taking him to the vet for his ear infection due to one of our children going under heart surgery which is putting us in a difficult time financially. New home we are planning to move in does not allow “large” dogs. I am very heartbroken writing this post but I am hoping to find my Dillon a good home that has the time for him.
