Story
Meet Bear, a charming mini Australian Shepherd mixed with an Ori-Pei, which is a blend of Shar Pei and Pug. Bear is incredibly intelligent and thrives on affection; he truly loves being loved. If you're searching for a loyal companion to keep you company, Bear is the perfect pup for you. We’re not in a hurry to rehome him; we genuinely want to find the right fit. We adore Bear and know he deserves more than we can currently provide. He longs to be the baby of the household, but with a three-year-old in the mix, we’ve noticed some jealousy on his part. Bear would thrive in a family without young children, though teenagers would be just fine. He’s full of energy and loves to run and play. After attending dog school for four months, he mastered his commands and made plenty of canine friends. He also gets along wonderfully with our cat. If you're ready to welcome a loving and spirited companion into your home, Bear could be the one for you!

Story
Meet Tokyo! A devoted four-year-old Australian Shepherd currently in Monrovia, MD, whose blue merle coat shimmers like a watercolor masterpiece and whose loyalty runs deep as a river. Tokyo is the kind of girl who forms powerful bonds with her people. Obedient and incredibly smart, she responds to a wide array of commands from “go to your bed” to “turn around” and loves nothing more than staying close to her trusted human companions. Walks? She’s a dream! On or off leash, she moves with grace and attentiveness, though her true joy blossoms when she’s leash-free, trotting happily beside her person with frisbee in tow. Frisbee is, in fact, her greatest joy! She could play fetch for hours, leaping and sprinting with enthusiasm, her eyes bright with excitement. This playful spirit is paired with a gentle desire to be near her favorite humans, always keeping a watchful eye from the window when they’re away, patiently awaiting their return. While Tokyo shines in adult company and with older children who respect her space, she becomes anxious around toddlers and small children. She also prefers to be the only pet, as she doesn’t feel comfortable around other dogs. In her current home, there was a conflict with another resident dog that resulted in a bite, an important sign that Tokyo is happiest when she has her space and undivided attention from her people. Her ideal family is calm, adult-centered, or includes thoughtful teens who understand boundaries and are ready to build a close, trusting bond with a loyal companion. Tokyo is house-trained, crate-trained, and up to date on vaccinations. She’s slightly over her normal weight, but with some daily walks, games of fetch, and a balanced diet, she’ll be back to her fit and fabulous self in no time! She’s not just a pet, she’s a steadfast companion, a bright mind, and a warm heart who needs a home where she can be the star of the show. Imagine having a walking partner who never strays, a playmate who never tires, and a friend who always wants to be by your side! Are you ready to open your heart and home to this frisbee-loving girl? Contact adopt@joyfulpets.com to start the next chapter with Tokyo today! Content Notice: This pet is represented by Joyful Pets. Story
**Meet Dean — a Gentle, Shy Soul Looking for His Perfect Home (with Jackie!)** Dean is a very shy but incredibly sweet boy who just needs a little time and patience to show you his true heart. Once he bonds with you, he becomes your devoted shadow—quietly loyal, deeply affectionate, and happiest right by your side. Dean shares a special, unbreakable bond with his best friend Jackie, and the two of them must be adopted together. Their connection gives Dean confidence, comfort, and joy, and they truly thrive as a pair. Leash walks are one of Dean’s favorite things—he’s calm, easy to handle, and enjoys exploring the world at a gentle pace. However, he *can* jump a 4-foot fence, so he will need a secure yard with a taller fence or supervised outdoor time to keep him safe. Dean and Jackie are looking for a patient, loving home that will give them the time and reassurance they need to settle in. With understanding and consistency, Dean will blossom into the loyal, affectionate companion he’s meant to be. If you’re ready to open your heart to a sweet, sensitive boy and his best friend, Dean and Jackie are waiting to meet you.

Story
Meet Toby!! Tobys story starts like far too many in Houston abandoned on the streets, struggling to survive, painfully thin with raw, irritated skin. Despite everything hes been through, he never lost his gentle spirit. Thanks to an incredible foster, Toby was given the chance to heal, and today hes healthy, happy, and officially finished with heartworm treatment. Now, hes ready for what hes always deserved: a forever home. Now for the best part - Toby himself. Toby is what we lovingly call a stage-five clinger. He thrives on affection and wants to be as close to his person as possible. After a hard start to life, he’s learning that love is here to stay, and that reassurance means everything to him. With time and security, his foster is confident he’ll settle into a more balanced independence but for now, expect a loyal shadow. True to his Australian Shepherd roots, Toby is incredibly smart, athletic, a great swimmer, and eager to engage. Toys are his passion if there’s something he can carry around proudly in his mouth, he will. Hes also an excellent running partner; his foster mom is training for a marathon, and Toby easily keeps pace for five miles and beyond. An active home that enjoys exercise and mental stimulation is a must for this guy. Toby is already potty trained, crate trained, and knows basic commands. Hes still polishing his manners (especially when excitement leads to jumping), but he’s eager to learn and quick to catch on. He loves kids including toddlers and does great with other dogs, especially playful companions. While hes friendly and social, he’d do best with a dog who wants to be his buddy rather than a dominant “boss.” Toby is pure heart. He rides beautifully in the car, walks nicely on leash, and wants nothing more than to be included in everyday life with his people. He’s affectionate, joyful, and endlessly loyal the kind of dog who makes your house feel like home. If you’re looking for a devoted adventure partner and lifelong best friend, Toby might just be your perfect match. Toby is fostered in Houston, Texas, but is available for adoption across many states. Transport is included in the adoption fee.

Story
Roux is a 7 year 8-month-old male Australian Shepherd mix with a brown and white fluffy coat and a gentle, soulful personality. He weighs 73 pounds and has clearly been a well-loved indoor dog. After his beloved owner passed away, Roux was staying at a veterinary clinic, patiently waiting for a new family to call his own. Roux truly enjoys the comforts of home but also loves going outside to feel the sunshine, run a bit, and sniff the grass. Rainy weather is strictly business only, then it is right back inside. He adores people and attention, happily following his humans around and gently pawing for more pets when he feels the moment is right. Playing with his ball, rolling in the grass, and simply being near his people are some of his favorite activities. He also is great around other dogs and children. He is polite and well mannered, does not bark excessively, and has even taken on the role of friendly receptionist while he was at the vet clinic. Roux greeted visitors calmly and soaked up compliments. Roux is generally indifferent to cats, and if a cat swats at him, he prefers to retreat and avoid conflict. He listens well, though he can occasionally get lost in his own little world while sniffing. He also has a mild fondness for sneaking paper towels from the trash, a quirky habit that only adds to his charm. Roux is already top notch with his house, crate and leash training. He is ready to pack his bags and move into his forever home. Although Roux is housetrained, it is important to remember that accidents can occur while adjusting to a new home environment. Roux enjoys healthy snacks like fruits and vegetables, especially when they are frozen in water. He is a truly sweet, loyal boy who deserves a loving home where he can be cherished again. Roux is ready to give his whole heart to someone who will love him as much as his previous owner did.* When considering adoption, keep in mind that dogs thrive on structure and routine. They adjust much better when their owners are committed to providing consistency and stability. The adoption fee for Roux is $300. That includes the cost of spaying/neutering, up to date vaccinations, foster care, rescue and transportation fees. To get the ball rolling, head over to our Adoption Application and submit your application today. A Dog Star representative will contact you within 24 hours. To speed up the process, contact your vet and give them permission to speak with us.If you do not get a response within 24 hours, check your spam folder.February 4, 2026, 5:34 am
