Story
Fleury is a 6 year old mini Australian Shepherd (40lbs), and needs needs a home with no other dogs and no children. Fleury is neutered, up to date on vaccines, on flea/tick and heart worm prevention. Fleury is affectionate, loyal, and loves butt scratches and belly rubs. He is smart, food-motivated, house trained, and does well alone for several hours at a time. He enjoys tug with a rope, fetch, and jumping through obstacles. Although he's an Aussie, he's grown out of the puppy energy, and doesn't herd or nip ankles! Fleury has a history of reactivity and anxiety. He's loyal and protective of owners. Strangers, other dogs, and children frighten him. He had 1 incident biting our toddler, which is why we need to rehome. We believe it's related to upping his anxiety medication. In the meantime, we're working to find a good balance of medication for him. He needs an experienced owner, training for reactivity/anxiety, and a calm household where he can chase a ball to his heart's content!

Story
What a goofy, happy boy Alister is! He is estimated to be about a year old and weighs 47 pounds. Meet Alister, a bundle of wiggly, playful fun! This outgoing and active boy is a true social butterfly, always eager to say hello and make new friends. Alister is very engaged with you and ready to learn. He loves to play fetch and is more than happy to bring the ball back to you, showing off his good manners. Alister is a herding dog at heart, so he thrives with a leader who can provide him with structure, mental stimulation, and plenty of opportunities to exercise that brilliant mind. They really don't come any smarter than Alister and he will do anything for a Kong Wubba or a ball! And he is just so connecting and has a soft loving personality, he is really going to make someone a wonderful best friend. If you understand the needs of a herding pup, Alister would love it if you came to meet him, he can't wait to grow up with a family to love! He will need a home where any children are at least 13 years old. **We have some exciting news about Alister! Red Lantern Dog Training in Ortonville is working with our rescue and letting some of our great pups come for training and giving them a break from the kennel. Alistair was welcomed right away, he is thriving and blossoming with training, you can tell he just loves learning and gosh, he really likes mind work! This smartie is working on so many things: place, heel, drop it, basic manners, good eye contact and using toys for reward over food, he seems to like that more (who doesn't love a fun toy). Alister is soaking up every piece of knowledge he can, he absolutely loves it. He also likes being there with all the other dogs in the training class. He would make a great second dog for a family!** If you are interested in Alister and are at least 21 years old, please come to our kennel during business hours, make an appointment, or fill out an application at k9stray.com and an adoption counselor will be in touch. We look forward to helping you find your new best friend! *Please check your lease agreements for breed/weight restrictions prior to applying. We also do not do cat testing, so we do not know how a dog will do with cats. Not all dogs are available to go home on the same day you first meet.*

Story
We adopted Honeysuckle “Honey” when she was 13w. I had intended to get her spayed in spring of 2025, but she became severely ill that winter. We took her to the vet, diagnosed pancreatitis. They also found heart worms. Early stages, but not early enough for antibiotics to kill them. With the help of a loan we were able to get her treated. She is heartworm free. Unfortunately, the entire ordeal has left us financially unable to afford both of our dogs. She has preventative medicine that she needs monthly and is doing great on Kirkland (Costco) gluten free dog food. She may require more expensive low fat food as she ages. Absolutely needs to see a vet yearly. No table scraps. No fat or treats (lean chicken treats only) For her health she should not be bred. We can’t afford to spay her or we would. She’s a great dog. Loving, kind, playful, energetic, vocal. She’s potty trained and loves to frolick in their very large outdoor area. She will be 7 in August! Scared of storms & fireworks.

Story
My pure bred English cream golden had puppies with a husky/shepherd mix. I kept one of the puppies. Tiffany is a super super sweet girl who loves everyone and has a calm temperament, especially for a 10 month old. If you are home she sleeps and chills 90% of the time. She does have some accidents in the house that I think would help if someone was home to work with her more. She walks well on a leash, and is 0% aggressive. Unfortunately Tiffany has some separation anxiety and I think would love a home with someone around more. She deserves the best home with people who love her. I love her so much and would love to keep in touch with anyone who would adopt her.
