This sweetie with the super adorable short, stubby legs landed in the shelter due to no fault of her own. She's looking ahead to the time when she will have her own humans for long sniffy walks (hey, look at those legs. if she's got Basset in her - that hound nose is gonna work overtime!), romps in the park, and all the adventures they can dream up. Including pup cups from Starbucks - she's heard about those and is up for trying them! Quality kibble and a cushy dog bed are on her wish list as well.    But you know what? She's out of the puppy yips and as an experienced dog in her prime, she knows what's most important: Being safe and loved and under her own roof. In exchange, she promises adoring gazes and tail wags and loyal companionship. What do you say? Is that what you're looking for? This beautiful boy with the most gorgeous eyes was found as a stray on a country road in rural Georgia. He was in foster with an elderly woman and her Chihuahuas until he came to us. She described him as well-behaved and very sweet. He also got along great with her dogs. Kirby is extremely gentle and good natured and will make a wonderful companion for some lucky family. At his young age, he is in his prime for training and socialization. Please remember that young pups require a lot of time, love, and patience to become the best doggie citizens they can be. Adopt Kirby because every home deserves a touch of his gentle, sweet, and good-natured spirit! Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.           Adoption fees cover basic vetting, spay/neuter surgery (at partner vet if not fixed before adoption), rabies, distemper/parvo vaccinations, treatment for worms, heartworm testing, monthly heartworm prevention and monthly flea/tick prevention (while the animal is in our care), and transport costs from high-kill shelter. Please note that on average, K-9 Lifesavers spend significantly more on each dog than their adoption fee. Adoption fee for HW positive dog also covers heartworm treatment at our partner vets. Foster Program:    Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home.  For more information on becoming a foster parent, and our Foster Program, visit  http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/foster/  or email our Foster Coordinator at  foster@k-9lifesavers.orgSponsor Me!    Make a  tax-deductible donation  today by visiting us at http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/donate/  . Story
Rider is a real low-rider. He weighs 47 lbs and has the body of a Bassett or maybe Dachshund. He is super friendly and loves everyone, cats, dogs, adults and kids. He is working on his leash walking and making progress. He is medium energy and likes to trot around the fenced yard with his husky foster sister and doxy foster brother. He is 100% crate-trained and appears to be house trained. He loves his squeaky toys and treats. When not crated he is non-destructive and loves to chill out. His favorite spot is on anyone's lap. What a perfect little guy. Thank you for your interest in Rider! Story
Stumpy-Bassett Hound/Labrador Retriever (Bassador) male, ~ 1-2 yr. (March 2024) Contact rescuebc@hotmail.com for application to adopt. Stumpy is living in a very rural area with a family that asked for help in finding him a new home. He's used to living a family life with children and loves the children. He would be best as an only dog. He's a mixed dog but a popular mix, called a Bassador. The Bassador temperament can vary a lot depending on whether they take after their Lab or Basset Hound parent more. Generally, they are sociable and loving. We are fortunate to know how Stumpy has done, living with a family. Bassadors love attention, especially from their favorite person. If you want a dog with a very unique look who’s loyal to a fault, the Bassador could be the dog for you! Stumpy's adoption fee is $350 to help cover the medical costs of getting ready for adoption. For our application, please email rescuebc@hotmail.com Include your location and a phone number for future communication.

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Meet sweet OPIE who just arrived! Opie is a handsome 3 year old, 32 pound, tri-color beagle/hound mix. He is shy and will do best in a quiet home and one with another dog to help him build his confidence! Opie gets along well with other dogs, and ignores the kitties. Opie lost his way in rural North Carolina and we can not understand why his people did not retrieve such a sweet dog from the NC shelter. Volunteers at the shelter let us know that he was a very sweet dog and warmed up, especially on walks with other dogs. PetConnect has come to his rescue and has brought him to the DC area to find his new home that will adore him furever. The "big city" is a bit daunting to this country boy, so he will not be a good fit for someone living in a city environment -- too much traffic noise will scare poor Opie! Moreover, he probably will be best in an adult home or a less active home with older children, and will need some patience as he overcomes his shyness. In the comfort of his foster home, he has already learned how good it can be to have a nice soft dog bed! He likes to go for walks, is a great size, and is a "quiet" beagle/hound, with an adorable very expressive face and eyes. Opie would be a great companion to curl up at your feet on a cool spring evening. ***Please note that the first step is to fill out an application (It does not commit you in anyway but allows us to discuss with you if you and the dog are a good fit). In addition, an important step in approving adoption applicants is to complete a vet check to ensure that your current and previous pet(s) are kept up to date on vaccines (including rabies ) , spayed or neutered, maintained on appropriate monthly preventatives and examined annually by your vet.*** Opie is neutered and up-to-date on vaccines. The adoption fee for this dog is $425 which includes routine vetting and spay/neuter. PetConnect Rescue cannot guarantee the exact breed of any animal in our care. The breed listed is based on any background we may have been provided, and the general appearance of the animal at the time they enter our system. For more information, please email Robin at kinstondogs@verizon.net **If you're viewing this on Petfinder, please visit www.petconnectrescue.org to complete our non-binding application.**
