Story
My name is Mateo but my foster mom calls me shorty, probably because of my short legs. I am a basset hound but my face looks a lot like a German shepherd.  I’m very sweet and affectionate. They think I'm around 1-2 years old. I sleep quietly in my crate at night and I haven’t had any accidents at my foster moms house. When a rescue in Mexico found me, I had been living on the streets and struggling to find meals.  I traveled a pretty far distance: all the way from Mexico to the midwest in search of a family and stability.    Because of my past with food-insecurity, I don’t know how to share snacks/treats/etc with others.  Please be patient as I try to overcome this, and help set me up for success by not having me in situations where there could be “food scuffles” with other pets.  (Thank you in advance for making sure that my needs are met and I don’t have to go hungry anymore!)   I have a lot of energy, but that’s part of my charm!  I’m a silly boy and you’re guaranteed to laugh.  I’m smart as a whip and can learn tricks and commands quite well. Although I’m high-energy, I also have great regulation skills and can calm down when it’s time for cuddles.  I may have left a warmer climate, but I am still in search of a warm HOME.  Will you open your doors and your hearts to me?  Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $525.00 Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 14, 2024, 11:26 am

Story
Meet Mahi! She loves to dance for attention and she’s so loving. She’s a dachshund or basset mix with maybe some shepherd in her. She’s about 10 months old and weighs 27 pounds.IMPORTANT: Please read all below, especially if you live outside of Texas, which is where our rescue is located.Apply to adopt on our website: https://www.charmingpetrescue.org/adoptAll of our animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots.ALL of our animals are located in Boerne, TX, but transport after adoption is available to other states for a $300 fee for dogs or an additional fee varying by location for cats. If you are seeing our pets posted in your state, that's because you live near a transport stop, they are not currently at that location. Petfinder lists our pets as 'Out of Town' pets at other locations, and Adopt-a-Pet lists our location as a Transport stop. Those are currently the only options they offer to make this clear, so we put this description we've put at the bottom to explain it. You can read more about transport here: www.charmingpetrescue.org/transportWe understand transport is not an option for everyone, but we offer it at the cost we pay the transport company for those who wish to adopt from us.April 13, 2024, 2:37 pm

When Irish eyes are smiling, does that mean they are happy? Or maybe they had too many pints at the pub? My eyes are smiling, and I am a non drinker, just want to have full disclosure here! Even though my eyes were smiling in these pictures. I was desperate for help for my little one, Lewis. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Poppy! Poppy is a gem in every way—she's leash and crate trained, enjoys car rides, and likes water and toys. This sweet girl gets along with people of all ages and other dogs, proving herself to be gentle, affectionate, and even-tempered. While Poppy can be timid around new people initially, she quickly warms up with a little patience and love. Her favorite companion is her stuffed animal Lamby, which she carries around everywhere and tries to bury—it’s absolutely adorable! Poppy's endearing quirks and loving nature make her a perfect addition to any family. If you're looking for a loyal and affectionate companion who will steal your heart, consider welcoming Poppy into your home. Don't miss out on the chance to make this wonderful girl a part of your life—she's sure to bring joy and laughter to her new family! Poppy is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 4/20/2024 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 9am and noon. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame. One big thing you should know is they are heartworm positive - but please don’t let that scare you away from adopting them! After they undergo treatment for their condition they will be completely healthy again, and heartworm is not a contagious disease. Because they need treatment, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) program. Click here to learn more about this program. They will get heartworm treatment at one of Ruff Start’s partner veterinary clinics in St. Cloud, so their foster will need to be comfortable getting them to and from the appointments. Treatment will consist of three injections: the first will be roughly 30 days after they enter rescue. Then, the second and third injections will happen 30 days after the first. When they are undergoing treatment, they should be on activity ‘restrictions’ which just means they should relax in their crate or cuddle with you.   Click here to learn more about heartworm disease, which is transmitted by mosquitoes. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. If you'd like to donate towards this pet's care, you can donate to our Animal Care Fund. Our Animal Care Fund supports the medical and veterinary needs for all Ruff Start Rescue animals. You'll be able to enter this pet's name on the second page of the donation form. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 14, 2024, 3:53 pm

Meet Dolly- Dolly is a happy go-lucky 4 month old puppy, she is a low rider and weighs 25 lbs. By the size of her paws she will grow into a medium sized dog in the 40 lb range. Don't let those short Basset legs fool you - she is very agile and can keep up with the big dogs- she loves chasing and being chased.  Dolly also loves to cuddle up with cats and cats seem to love her.
