When Irish eyes are smiling, does that mean they are happy? Or maybe they had too many pints at the pub? My eyes are smiling, and I am a non drinker, just want to have full disclosure here! Even though my eyes were smiling in these pictures. I was desperate for help for my little one, Lewis. You see, he was dying...full of internal and external parasites he really had no fight left in him and I knew it as his mother... so I used my Irish eyes to get us saved. AND IT WORKED!! Our lives are do amazing now, Lewis is alive and well after some very intense care, and ADOPTED INTO AN AMAZING HOME!!! I am not ever producing more babies, so it is all good! Now I get my turn for love, comfort and safety and a FOREVER HOME!! I am an adorable girl, about 50# of low-rider basset/heeler-ness. I am great with other dogs and like to play keep away! I am ready when you are, do your stuff so we can ride off into the sunset, in air conditioning, of course! Story
Hi there! My  names Hugo! It’s a pretty big name for a low rider like me but it fits with my big personality! I just LOVE all people and dogs that I have met! My foster mom says that she thinks little kids might not be a great idea for me at this  time because I am still a bundle of energy and need some work on my manners, but you need to know I would NEVER purposefully hurt them. What can I say I just get so excited to see people that I sometimes forget that Four on the Floor is the rule! She does think that I would like to have another canine friend in the home that can match my energy and play style, however its not necessary as long as my family can give me the proper outlet for my energy. I LOVE to go on walks and smell all the smells!  Once I am tired or if everyone around me is busy I do enjoy playing with toys and chewing on bones! I really like crinkle toys, there is just something about the noise that makes my ears so happy.  I am a very curious boy who loves to be apart of any action that is happening.  I have lived with both canine and feline friends and get along great with all of them. My foster mom says that I am a super smart boy I know sit, no, and leave it. So the manners that I am lacking shouldn’t take long for me to master! Like I said I love my people so I am not a huge fan of my kennel and would much rather be with my person. Due to my curiosity my foster mom thinks that at this time I do need to be kenneled when no one is around to keep me out of trouble. I will sing the song of my people while in the kennel so no shared walls would probably be best unless your neighbors enjoy live music! I have heard from multiple people that I have the softest velvety ears they have ever touched and the cutest little waddle when I walk. I do have a funny front leg that turns to the side (from a previous injury that healed wrong?) but it has not slowed me down at all. Okay well  that’s all I have to say for now, I see my foster sibling getting his leash on so I better run! If you would like to learn more about me fill out an application and I will make sure my foster mom gets back to you! If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please an Adoption Request Form. This is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about The Rescue Crew adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our Adoption Process page on our official website.  All companion animals adopted by The Rescue Crew are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations, tested for FIV/FeLK (cats) or heartworm (dogs), microchipped, dewormed and provided with monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives prior to adoption.  The Rescue Crew is a foster based rescue organization, meaning all of our adoptable pets are located in homes throughout Minnesota. We do not have a physical location where you can stop by to visit the animals - we require the completion of an Adoption Application prior to meeting any of our adoptable pets in foster care. For the most complete information regarding this animal, and all of our adoptable pets, please ensure you are visiting our website directly at www.RescueCrew.org. You can also access the necessary online adoption application here as well. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. ##2084747##

Story
Hi! It’s a me – Mateo! I am approx. 2yr old Basset hound mix – we don’t know what I’m mixed with, but I have cute little stubby legs like a basset and big ol’ ears like Yoda! I was brought to NDLB after being found on a beach in Mexico. The volunteers there said I was having to come to the good life in Minnesota with NDLB. I jumped on it and said hop to it! Since coming up to MN, I have started to learn new things. I know “sit” and “kennel” (in English!). I no longer have to scrounge around for food, but I mean, I’m part basset so I will always love food so willing to learn new things if food is involved. I am crate trained & house trained. While in a crate, I don’t make any sounds – in fact I rarely bark unless we’re in the car and someone walks by. I do fine in the car being tethered, but I prefer to sit close to someone. I love everyone I meet, but can be a little pushy with personal space so do need someone who will cuddle with me at times but also teach me when enough is enough. I am good with dogs, but may come out a little strong (I mean, I’m a short little guy), so slow intros are best. But once I know them, all is good. I do pull some on leash – as I usually follow my nose. I have zoomies in the yard, but also trot around sniffing. I love laying in the sun and stretching out my little legs.   Would you please be my forever? I will love you always. Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $525.00Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 26, 2024, 4:02 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Toby, a charming 2.5-year-old male Basset Hound/Dachshund mix with a heart full of love! Toby is friendly with people of all ages and other dogs, though he might be a bit unsure at first. Once he warms up, he’s a delightful companion. With moderate energy and a tendency to only be vocal when he hears unfamiliar noises, Toby could even thrive in an apartment or townhouse with shared walls. Toby is leash and crate trained, making him an easy addition to any home. As a lap pet who is eager to please, goofy, affectionate, and playful, he would make a wonderful family pet. His ideal family would be looking for a cuddle buddy, but still wants a walk around the block every night after dinner. Toby adores cuddling and is looking for a loving home in Minnesota after being found as a stray in Texas. He is still working on his potty training, having been used to using potty pads inside the house. If you're ready to welcome a snuggly, affectionate companion into your life, Toby might be the perfect match!   Because they need treatment, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) program. Click here to learn more about this program. They will get heartworm treatment at one of Ruff Start’s partner veterinary clinics in St. Cloud, so their foster will need to be comfortable getting them to and from the appointments. Treatment will consist of three injections: the first will be roughly 30 days after they enter rescue. Then, the second and third injections will happen 30 days after the first. When they are undergoing treatment, they should be on activity ‘restrictions’ which just means they should relax in their crate or cuddle with you.   Click here to learn more about heartworm disease, which is transmitted by mosquitoes. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 26, 2024, 5:57 pm

Story
Introducing Gambit - the name's not just a coincidence; it's a testament to my ability to shape my destiny. Just like my Marvel/X-Men namesake, I've overcome my past and now look forward to a brilliantly bright future. My journey started in a rather somber place - a lonely field next to a gas station. Thankfully, kind souls would drop by, leaving me food and their hopes for a better life. One day, a persistent and resourceful lady decided to play her "pawn" and orchestrated my escape from that grim existence. Since then, I've been living with her and her doggy (and human) family. But now, I'm eagerly searching for my own forever family. Let's talk quirks. I'm a cheerful guy, but I've got some personal space boundaries. I'm protective of my face, so a home with adults or older, dog-savvy kids is my ideal match. I'm also a bit of a goofball and adore the company of other dogs. Now, I might not instantly become your best buddy; I take time to trust and get comfortable in my surroundings. But trust me, the patience will be worth it. I'm brimming with love and loyalty, just waiting for the right family to share it with. Here's the good news - I'm house and crate trained, proving that, yes, young dogs can indeed learn new tricks. Oh, and there's more - I'm pretty chill around cats, though a gentle introduction is wise. And I've been curious and respectful around a human baby, so that's a plus. One thing to note, though, is that I've had some reservations around men. Despite two years together, I haven't quite warmed up to my human's fianc and have snapped at him a few times. So, it might be best if I find a home without men. During a short stay with Kathy, I was a little shy but kept to myself. If you're looking for a loyal companion with a dash of X-Men flair and you're ready to give me the chance I deserve, let's make it happen. I can't wait to meet you and start this exciting new chapter together! Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX)

Story
Hi, I'm Beauregard! I'm still young and full of energy. I'm an 8 month old Beagle/Coonhound mix (best guess). I love to play and I'm as sweet as can be. I've got a voice and I'm not afraid to use it, especially when I want to show you how much I love you. I might be in a shelter now, but I'm dreaming of a home where I can run, play, and be loved. I promise to bring joy and laughter into your life with my playful antics and sweet nature. Adopting me means gaining a loyal, loving companion who will always be by your side. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to request an appointment to meet me. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and Minneapolis, MN areas twice a month. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual and we will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veteinarian ($35). Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! ##2087722##
