Both boys were seen at our vet on 1/28 and got everything they needed. Nelly had one large, one medium, and several small stones removed from his bladder. Bonnie #955 Age: 1 year old Color & Breed: Tricolor Basset Gender:Spayed Female Weight: 31 pounds Required: Fenced yard Bonnie #955 is a one-year-old spayed tricolor female basset with the sweetest brown face. She came to MNBR as a breeder release from Iowa and is making basset-sized strides at becoming a house dog. She’s comfortable in her kennel and lets herself in and out for potty breaks, although she’s still a bit of a work in progress there. She will need a fenced-in yard and a home without small children (noises are scary!) she is young and loves to play with the other dogs in her foster home, so a young dog buddy would be ideal. Take a load off and sit down at Bonnie’s level and she’ll come say hello. She’s also figuring out that toys are fun—and that everything is a toy if you wish hard enough. Story
vanilla #927 Age: 5 years old Color & Breed: Tricolor Basset Gender: Spayed Female Weight: 37 pounds Requires: Fenced yard and confident companion dog There’s absolutely nothing plain about Vanilla #927! This 5-year-old tricolor basset is looking for her forever home with someone who appreciates her sweet demeanor. Plot twist, she actually prefers spray cheese from a can to ice cream cones. Who knew? ‘Nilla feels safest when wrapped in a blanket (because nothing scary could be under a blanket.) If she can be joined by a bunch of stuffed animals, all the better. Because she’s still shy, a home with a fenced-in yard and lots of patience is needed. She's mostly potty trained, although sometimes things are just...scary. Vanilla doesn’t need other dogs for comfort but does like to hide behind them when she’s scared (because she knows that having a slower friend means the T-rex will get them first.) Vanilla is still learning how to relax and trust. With time (and enough cheese), she’ll learn how to be the best companion basset the world has ever seen. Add some Vanilla to your house! Story
Orchid #967 Age: 6 years old Color & Breed: Red/White Basset Gender: Spayed Female Weight: 41 pounds Orchids bloom with care, and Orchid #967 is ready to thrive. This 6-year-old red-and-white female came from a commercial breeder and is ready to let her guard down and love with her whole heart. Orchid is learning many new things, like walking on a leash, getting housetrained, and what the heck is making those weird loud noises she doesn’t like. Orchid LOVES stuffed toys and enjoys the company of other dogs. She could adjust to any kind of yard situation, although a fence would be best since she’s still a little shy. A quiet home full of toys and patient people is just the type of “greenhouse” Orchid needs. Story
Emma #618 Age: 9 years old Color & Breed: Tricolor Basset Gender: Spayed Female Weight: 42 pounds Emma #618 spent her early years at a breeding facility. This 9-year-old tricolor has some baggage—but it’s nothing a kind, patient person can’t overcome. If there’s a man in her new forever home, she’ll need time to meet them and get comfortable with them, but she’s doing really well with her current foster dad. Emma is looking for a home with a fenced-in yard and a quiet family. She’s a big fan of comfy dog beds and prefers to spend her time curled up in one with you nearby .Emma is easy to have around, not overly needy and is very well-behaved. She does well with the dogs in her foster home, but she’s not particularly attached to them. Emma has also been around cats before, although not currently. Do you have good snacks at your house? Emma will be the judge of that. When you offer something particularly delicious, she spins around in a circle of joy. Nothing is as rewarding as seeing a gray-faced lady enjoying her senior years. Story
Meet Charlee! This sweet, silly, low-riding girl has been through a lot and she’s ready for her happy ending. Charlee is the kind of dog who steals hearts in quiet, endearing ways. She has the cutest little snorewhen she sleeps, an irresistible butt wiggle when she’s happy, and the softest little nibble when she takes treats. She’s a bit timid at first, but she warms up quickly and truly wants to find “her people.” Once she does, she’s loyal, affectionate, and happiest being close by. Charlee is currently fostered with other dogs and teenage children and gets along beautifully with everyone. She sleeps in bed with her foster family and finds a way to be roughing someone at all times. She does well being gated to one level of the home when left alone. She does well in her kennel and seems to view it as a safe, cozy space. We haven’t heard Charlee bark but she cries for a while when left alone. Charlee loves treats, belly rubs, and cuddling — simple joys that mean the world to her. She’s an easygoing, gentle soul who will make a wonderful, loving addition to any family lucky enough to call her their own. Charlee is estimated to be 2 years old and 39 lbs. Since we don’t know the dog’s actual genetics, this is just a guess on breed and size when grown. All dogs have had a vet examination, are up to date on all vaccinations, have been given dewormer and heartworm prevention. Dogs over 7 months have been heartworm tested. If you are interested in meeting this dog please complete the adoption application on our website at https://safehandsrescue.org/adoption-process/ and then we can contact you about setting up a meeting. Story
Odie is the very definition of a good boy. He lives to make his people happy and manages to charm absolutely everyone he meets. He has proudly appointed himself the household Squirrel Supervisor - he loves to lounge outside, quietly observing the squirrels as they go about their day. Inside, Odie’s main mission is to cuddle. He loves to snuggle up with his humans and occasionally takes a break to enjoy his toys. You can often find him snuggled up on the couch with numerous stuffies collected around him. Odie does have occasional seizures, but they are well managed with daily medication. With his routine in place, he continues to be the happy, easygoing guy he’s always been. Everyone loves Odie, and Odie loves everyone right back. He’s wonderful with kids, dogs, and cats, making him an ideal family companion or a steady, even-keeled buddy for someone looking for a loyal sidekick. He’s house-trained, doesn’t need a crate, and is so ready to meet his forever people. Odi is estimated to be 8 years old and 45 lbs. WE ARE A TX-BASED RESCUE. THIS DOG IS CURRENTLY LOCATED IN TX AND WILL BE TRANSPORTED UPON ADOPTION. Please fill out an adoption application at haydudeequine.org 🌟🐾 Meet Gypsy — Short Legs, Big Heart, Still Waiting 💛🐾 Gypsy has been waiting… and waiting… and waiting. And honestly? She’s waited far too long for a girl this special. At 2 years old and 28 pounds, Gypsy is a delightful blend of Cattle Dog smarts and Basset Hound charm — think low-rider body, big-dog energy, and a personality that could light up a room. She’s basically the off-road model of a best friend: compact, sturdy, and always ready for an adventure. Gypsy LOVES her walks and is getting better and better on leash every day. She’s happiest when she’s outside, exploring the yard, supervising chores, or keeping an eye out for squirrels (her self-appointed job, and she takes it very seriously). When playtime winds down, she’s just as content following her favorite human around like a loyal little shadow. She’s playful, affectionate, and full of goofy charm. Toys are fun. Shoelaces are very intriguing. And her signature low-rider zoomies? Absolutely legendary. 🐾 Gypsy’s Highlights: ✅ 2 years old, 28 lbs ✅ Dog-friendly ✅ House & crate trained ✅ Loves walks and outdoor time ✅ Sweet, silly, and full of personality ✅ Equal parts sass, snuggles, and sunshine While Gypsy does great with other dogs, cats are an unknown — mostly because Gypsy believes squirrels are public enemy #1 — so she may prefer a home without feline roommates. What Gypsy really wants, though, isn’t much. She wants a family who will love her quirks, laugh at her goofy legs, and finally give her the forever home she’s been patiently waiting for. She’s ready to be someone’s hiking buddy, couch companion, and daily dose of happiness. 💛 Gypsy has so much love to give — she just needs someone to give her a chance. Short legs. Big heart. Endless loyalty. ✨ Apply today at haydudeequine.org and let Gypsy finally stop waiting and start living the life she deserves. 🐾💛

Story
Meet Ginger! This 2-year-old Beagle beauty loves sniffing everything (true to her Beagle nature!), chewing her favorite penguin toy, and most of all, being wherever her people are. Don’t expect to move from room to room without your loyal little shadow following along.Ginger is a true cuddle-bug who loves being with her people. She packs plenty of energy into her small frame, especially after naps, when she gets full-sprint zoomies on the hardwood floors! Then, she’s ready for belly rubs. She can be a timid in new situations or with new people, but she settled into her foster home very quickly. Soon after a nervous introduction, she was running around the house and smelling everything the night she was brought home. Within the week, her personality was coming out and she was beginning to shine. She’s still working on house-training and improving every day. She's happy to rest in her crate if you’re nearby, but she struggles with separation anxiety and becomes vocal if left alone, especially when crated. Because of this, she will require a home without shared walls (no apartments/townhomes) and where someone is home often. She does not have much experience with other animals, so a proper introduction would be recommended. She loves all people including young children, including some kids 8-9 years old.She enjoys multiple short walks a day, and her stamina may increase as she reaches her healthy weight. She is underweight and her foster family is working to get her up to around 25-30 lbs.If you’re looking for a sweet, devoted sidekick, Ginger is ready to bring you love and zoomies! If you are interested in Ginger, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

Fiona #966 Age: 4 years old Color & Breed: Tricolor Beagle/Basset Mix Gender: Spayed Female Weight: 29 pounds Fiona #966 is no ogre, but she could be a princess in your home! This little bagel (beagle/basset) weighs an adorably small 29 pounds and is the perfect age of 4. Found as a stray down south, she’s used to her independence but her true love is being a companion to people. One of Fiona’s favorite things is exploring. When she’s really intent on following her nose, she sounds just like a mini helicopter. Fiona gets along well with other dogs, although she doesn’t need to be part of a pack. She enjoys walks and could probably be okay on a tie-out, but she really likes being able to let herself in and out of a doggy door. Fiona’s quickly adjusting to potty training and is learning to accept her crate. She also likes to use her voice, so potential adopters (and their neighbors) should take that into account. In her down time, she likes watching TV with people, going for walks, and playing with toys.
