Our Lovable Zena found herself homeless after her owners had a baby and could not handle dog care with a new child. Zena was surrendered directly to our Connecticut Rescue, so she did not have to suffer through a shelter process. Now four years old, Zena is ready to begin her second act in life. Zena appears shy at first, and had not benefited from much socializing or training In her former home. Some pups serve as placeholders in families until the human baby shows up, and then are cast off to fend for themselves in the rescue process. This sad situation left Zena lacking social skills. Zena needs an extremely dog savvy adopter willing to go slow with her and troubleshoot some stranger danger and touch sensitivity at the vet. Her best fit will be an active adult home, with folks who have rescue dog experience, and who understand that a period of decompression is needed as Zena transitions to a new home. Zena has done extremely well with her training, and seems to enjoy the process. She now knows most basic commands. We recommend ongoing Obedience work to help her adopter bond, and also to provide mental and physical stimulation. Besides training exercises, Zena needs a few brisk leash walks daily to work out her yayas. We suspected Zena to be a mix of Beagle and Pug, but when curiosity demanded that we run her DNA, we discovered that somebody had crossed her great grandparents with Rottweiler. Zena is a stout, medium sized dog at a lean weight of 30 pounds. She could easily gain 5 pounds and still be within normal weight range. The Rottie DNA no doubt is the source of her sass! Zena's house manners are good. She is house trained and crate trained, although adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during her transition to a new home. She is in optimal health. Zena has been spayed and has received routine vaccinations and health screenings. She has been dewormed, and microchipped. His best mate is Amos, and he certainly makes Amos more comfortable with things as Amos is a little on the shy side. They do not have to be adopted together but it would be nice if they were. Amos is only 28lbs and around 18 months old, so they are a very unlikely couple! Both are good with other dogs, can be cat tested on request and are now getting fully vetted so they will be ready for forever homes in November!

Meet our sweet girl 💛 She’s a gentle soul who has clearly been through more than she should have. While she is incredibly sweet, she is still very fearful and can become overwhelmed with touch, sometimes vocalizing when she’s unsure or scared. Because of this, she will need a patient and understanding home that is willing to go at her pace. The good news? She wants to trust again. You can see it in her eyes every day. She loves treats, enjoys the company of other dogs, and is slowly starting to come out of her shell with the people she feels safe around. She is very much a work in progress, and will need someone committed to continuing her journey—building trust, respecting her boundaries, and celebrating the small wins along the way. With time, patience, and love, we truly believe she has the potential to blossom into an incredible companion.

Meet Mad Max! He’s approximately 2 years old, and our best guess is that he’s a Beagle/Shepherd mix. We’re not entirely sure what went into making Max, but we’re fairly confident someone added an extra scoop of chaos, a generous helping of affection, and absolutely no concept of personal space. 😂❤️ Max had a rough start in life, but he’s decided the best way to make up for lost time is to live every single day like someone just announced FREE TENNIS BALLS FOR EVERYONE! 🎾 This boy is a four-legged tornado with a heart of gold. He’s goofy, affectionate, ridiculously enthusiastic, and occasionally resembles a bull who has been turned loose in a china shop. Does he mean to cause chaos? Absolutely not. Does chaos seem to follow him anyway? Well… 😂 🐾 Kids? Max does well with older children! However, his enthusiasm occasionally exceeds his ability to steer, so little ones may find themselves unintentionally participating in an unexpected game of human bowling. 🎳 🐾 Other dogs? Max does well with most dogs, provided they’re playful, confident, and completely nonreactive. He needs a buddy who appreciates his particular brand of nonsense rather than one who takes offense to it. He’d also be perfectly happy as an only dog, where he could enjoy being the main character 24/7. 🐾 Cats? Unfortunately, no. Max has some natural chasing instincts, and we’d prefer not to turn anyone’s beloved feline into an unwilling participant in a high-speed pursuit. 🐈💨 🐾 Energy level? Have you ever watched a toddler eat an entire bag of candy and then discover a trampoline? Something along those lines. But here’s the thing about Max. Underneath all that enthusiasm is a genuinely sweet, loving boy who just wants someone to love him back. He’s had enough hardship in his short life, and now he deserves a family who sees past the occasional chaos and appreciates just how special he is. Max isn’t looking for someone who expects a perfectly polished couch potato. He’s looking for someone with a sense of humor, an appreciation for goofy dogs, and a willingness to embrace life with a little extra excitement.
