Story
Our Lovable Zena found herself homeless after her owners had a baby and could not handle dog care with a new child. Zena was surrendered directly to our Connecticut Rescue, so she did not have to suffer through a shelter process. Now four years old, Zena is ready to begin her second act in life.  Zena appears shy at first, and had not benefited from much socializing or training In her former home. Some pups serve as placeholders in families until the human baby shows up, and then are cast off to fend for themselves in the rescue process. This sad situation left Zena lacking social skills. Zena needs an extremely dog savvy adopter willing to go slow with her and troubleshoot some stranger danger and touch sensitivity at the vet. Her best fit will be an active adult home, with folks who have rescue dog experience, and who understand that a period of decompression is needed as Zena transitions to a new home.  Zena has done extremely well with her training, and seems to enjoy the process. She now knows most basic commands. We recommend ongoing Obedience work to help her adopter bond, and also to provide mental and physical stimulation. Besides training exercises, Zena needs a few brisk leash walks daily to work out her yayas.  We suspected Zena to be a mix of Beagle and Pug, but when curiosity demanded that we run her DNA, we discovered that somebody had crossed her great grandparents with Rottweiler. Zena is a stout, medium sized dog at a lean weight of 30 pounds. She could easily gain 5 pounds and still be within normal weight range. The Rottie DNA no doubt is the source of her sass! Zena's house manners are good. She is house trained and crate trained, although adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during her transition to a new home. She is in optimal health. Zena has been spayed and has received routine vaccinations and health screenings. She has been dewormed, and microchipped.  If you are interested in Zena, please write to Angelsfrgod@aol.com or call/text Denise at 860-908-9738 for more info.

Story
**AVAILABLE FOR PRE APPROVAL FOR MARCH 7TH** Our March 7 & 8 puppy event will take place at the Women’s Health, Beauty & Bridal Show inside Mohegan Sun Casino from 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM both days. This is a ticketed event, and entry requires admission to the casino’s show. We have a very limited number of free entry passes for pre-approved adopters, one per dog, first come first serve. Any additional guests to the adopter would need to purchase a ticket. There will be extremely limited availability for private appointments outside of event hours that weekend, so applying in advance is strongly recommended. --- Copper: Forever Friend Material Yep, his name is Copper - and if you're thinking of a certain lovable dog from The Fox and The Hound, you wouldn't be wrong! Just like his namesake, this Copper is loyal, gentle, and believes that once you're his person, you're his person for life. Copper is a 5 year old beagle mix with that classic, curious spirit and an even bigger heart. He loves to explore, investigate every interesting scent, and then happily settle in for some quality time with his favorite humans. He's the kind of dog who forms deep bonds and thrives on companionship. He's not particularly food driven, but his howling mechanism works very well. The shelter he was in down south tells us he is dog and cat friendly and appears at least partially potty trained. If you're looking for a best friend who will stick by your side through every season of life, Copper is ready to make that promise. Just like his Disney counterpart, this Copper is also wanting to know... "We'll be best friends forever, won't we?" Story
**AVAILABLE FOR PRE APPROVAL FOR MARCH 21st** --- Vixey is a 7-year-old beagle mix with soulful eyes and a nose that's ready to get back to business. This sweet girl recently had a large bladder stone removed and is now on the road to feeling so much better. She's currently recovering in her foster home in Georgia, where she's getting lots of TLC while she heals. Vixey will be arriving to our rescue on 3/21, and we can't wait to welcome her. After everything she's been through, Vixey deserves a soft place to land. She is on a specialty diet to support her urinary health and help prevent future stones, so her forever family will need to be committed to keeping her on that food and following any veterinary recommendations. In return, you'll get a gentle, loving companion with that classic beagle charm - equal parts sweet snuggler and curious explorer. If you're ready to open your heart (and your home) to a resilient girl who's already overcome so much, Vixey will be ready to meet you on 3/21! Story
Sofia's story is one of quiet resilience and incredible gentleness. She came to us four months ago from a hoarding situation, where she and her young puppies lived in heartbreaking conditions. Despite the neglect and abuse she endured, Sofia has remained a truly kind soul. She is slow to warm with new people - not because she lacks love to give, but because trust is something she's learned must be built carefully. Sofia will need a patient adopter who understands that she'll require several visits to feel safe and secure before heading home. Once Sofia chooses you, her affection shines. She LOVES her person, thrives on attention, and soaks up pets. When she's happy, she'll even dance and prance for you, showing off her sweet, joyful side with full body and tail wags. She has a special love for wet food and does well with every dog her foster has introduced her to. While she seems to prefer the company of smaller dogs and can be very nervous around larger ones, she has shown herself to be gentle and appropriate in her interactions. She has also done well with initial cat testing. Because Sofia would transition most easily in a calm, predictable environment, we are recommending a home without children. Her foster describes her as sweet, submissive, calm, and incredibly patient. Sofia is the kind of dog who doesn't rush love - but once you earn her trust, she gives it wholeheartedly. For the right home, she will be a deeply devoted, loyal, and grateful companion. 5 year old medium sized lab retriever/beagle mix. Sofia has already been spayed.
