Pet Location: Wayside’s Canine Behavior Center – I`d love to show off all the cool things I’ve learned at Wayside! Please arrive at the shelter before 4pm on our open adoption days to meet me! My Friends at Wayside say: - I am enrolled in LIFT University and Waifs with Wisdom. LIFT University is a program for dogs to build confidence in new situations and work on managing energy. - I am a graduate of Waifs with Wisdom. In this program, I learned basic commands and leash walking skills. My adoption comes with a free 30-minute private training session. - I’m a little shy—slow and steady wins the race with me.- Once I warm up, I`m a wiggly and affectionate goofball!- I LOVE my squeaky toys and stuffies!- I am eligible for a Slumber Pawty, a 7-10 day in-home trial period. My home needs are: - I need a home without other dogs - I prefer having your attention all to myself!- I need a home with kids 6 years old and older since I tend to be nervous around new people and loud noises.-Wayside recommends no apartments or shared living spaces for me. Approx. DOB: 2/14/16 Approx. Weight: 34 Lbs Adoption Fee: $175 includes a 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness! Velma is a sweet senior beagle/shepard mix who came to Furry Kids after her owner passed away. She was living with five other dogs of various breeds and sizes. She is currently in a foster home with three other dogs. Velma may take a day or two to warm up and feel comfortable in new surroundings but once she does she will be your shadow. She is content to lay next to your feet or beside you on your couch. She can be protective of her person so if you have another furry friend a meet and greet is required. A fenced area where she can run is also required. She would do best in a home with no small children. Velma walks well on a leash though she doesn’t like to have her harness put on. She is housebroken and has had zero accidents in her foster home. She sleeps in a dog pen but could also sleep in a crate (though she would love to sleep in your bed). She has shown little interest in dog toys or chews but does like treats. Overall she is a sweetie looking for her forever home and person to love. Could that be you? I have been spayed, vaccinated, heartworm tested negative and microchipped. She is: ✔ Fully vaccinated ✔ House trained (rare accidents) ✔ Comfortable crating with positive reinforcement ✔ Athletic and loves off-leash exercise ✔ Extremely loyal once bonded She thrives with: Consistent routine, clear boundaries, plenty of physical activity, a confident, experienced owner. She bonds deeply with her person/people (amazing snuggler!) and would probably do best as an only dog where she can fully focus that loyalty, but she does enjoy playing with other dogs. A big yard or acreage with room to run will bring her great joy! She is still building confidence with car rides and new people but warms up with patience and consistency.
