🌟 Meet Norma Jean!
🐾 ABOUT THIS ANIMAL:
Norma Jean is a gentle, sensitive girl who may be hesitant about the world, but underneath those nerves is something equally powerful: curiosity. Even when something startles her, she often comes right back to investigate. She may not feel brave quite yet, but you can tell she's trying—and we're already seeing her confidence begin to grow.
When Norma Jean first arrived, she preferred to retreat to the back of her kennel when someone approached. But give her a sweet voice and a little patience, and curiosity starts to take over. She'll peek back out as soon as you walk away, and lately she's been making even bigger strides. She's approaching trusted people for pets, figuring out new things like doggy doors, and recently stayed at the front of her kennel instead of retreating when it was time for an outing. Those are big victories for this sweet girl!
Once Norma Jean gets away from the busy kennel environment, another side of her starts to emerge. She enjoys exploring outside and does surprisingly well walking on leash, often following her person's lead as she ventures farther down the trails. New indoor spaces can still make her anxious, but outside, she's much more comfortable investigating the world around her.
Norma Jean isn't quite ready to demand affection, but she's beginning to discover that pets can actually be pretty nice. She now approaches familiar people for attention, even if she still does so a little cautiously. She's also a big fan of treats, which will be a wonderful tool for helping her continue to build positive associations and confidence.
Norma Jean is looking for someone who will celebrate progress measured in small but meaningful moments: the first time she approaches without hesitation, the first time she asks for affection, and the day she realizes she doesn't need to be afraid anymore. Give this curious girl patience and kindness, and we think watching her blossom will be something truly special.
🐕 HOW AM I WITH DOGS:
I've been calm and appropriate around dogs I've encountered, including remaining relaxed during an unexpected close greeting. My friends at FOHA can schedule a dog introduction if you have another dog at home.
🐱 HOW AM I WITH CATS:
Unknown — just ask my friends at FOHA to conduct a cat test.
👶 HOW AM I WITH KIDS:
Because I'm sensitive to sudden movements and sounds, I'd likely be most comfortable with calm, respectful children who can give me space and allow me to approach at my own pace.
🎓 I KNOW THE FOLLOWING COMMANDS:
I'm still learning! Right now, some of my biggest accomplishments are building confidence, exploring new places, and learning to trust the people around me.
🏠 MY HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING:
Unsure at this time. I spent time exploring the adoption office without any observed accidents or marking.
💖 THINGS I LIKE:
Treats, sweet voices, exploring outside, sniffing along the trails, gentle pets, investigating new things at my own pace, and spending time with patient people.
⚠️ THINGS I DISLIKE:
Sudden movements, loud noises, and unfamiliar situations can startle me, and I may need a moment to process what's happening. I'm still learning to feel comfortable with things like harnessing and busy indoor spaces, but my curiosity keeps encouraging me to try again.
