Story
Meet Rosie. Rosie is 14 years old, and she has earned the right to do things on Rosie time. This sweet senior Beagle approaches life with a simple philosophy: take your time, enjoy the sunshine, stop and smell absolutely everything, and never rush a good nap. Whether she's wandering through the yard with her nose to the ground, stretched out in a sunny spot, or curled up beside her people with her head resting in a lap, Rosie is happiest when life is peaceful and unhurried. Her foster describes her as gentle, affectionate, friendly, stubborn, and spunky — which feels exactly right for a senior Beagle who still has plenty of opinions. One of Rosie's most charming qualities is her signature "Beagle yell." If dinner is taking too long or another dog is being particularly annoying, she'll let out a dramatic little bay to make sure her feelings are known. It's equal parts sass and comedy. Rosie loves naps, belly rubs, snacks, and spending time with her people. In fact, her favorite place is simply wherever they are. She's wonderful with cats, does well with respectful dogs, and is perfectly content spending her days as a beloved family companion. Because Rosie has arthritis and a mild heart murmur, she's looking for a home that will help her stay comfortable as she ages. Stairs can be tricky for her, and she has had some falls, so a single-level home or one where stair access can be limited would be ideal. She also needs frequent potty breaks and enjoys taking her time outdoors, making a fenced yard a wonderful bonus. Give Rosie a sunny patch of grass and plenty of time to sniff around, and she'll be in her happy place. At 14 years old, Rosie isn't looking for excitement. She's looking for comfort. A cozy bed. A sunny yard. A lap to rest her head on. Someone who appreciates that the best companions aren't always the fastest or youngest—they're the ones who quietly make every day a little warmer. And if you happen to hear some freight-train snoring from across the room, don't worry. That's just Rosie, sleeping soundly and dreaming about her next snack. We just welcomed 12 years old 31lb spayed female beagle Rosie. fostered in Reston, VA please apply at mirishaven.org

Story
Meet Skippy! Equal parts loyal gentleman, neighborhood explorer, and quiet comedian, Skippy is the kind of dog who takes his job of loving his people very seriously. Skippy loves long walks, rolling dramatically down hills at the park (and occasionally hiking right back to the top so he can do it again), soaking up the sunshine, and using the backyard azalea bushes as his personal back-scratching station. He's not a Velcro dog, but he absolutely wants to be part of whatever the family is doing. And if he needs something? He'll tell you. Skippy has an impressive vocabulary of barks—one for potty breaks, one for dinner, and a very specific one reserved exclusively for squirrels, whom he considers sworn enemies. Despite what his Beagle DNA might suggest, Skippy is a hilariously terrible scent hound. His foster family once scattered treats around the yard for him to find, but instead of sniffing, Skippy simply pointed at the ones he could see and waited for someone else to retrieve them. His pointing skills came in handy again when a giant deer bounded over the backyard fence before he could properly introduce himself. Skippy dutifully trotted over and pointed in the direction she'd gone, just in case everyone else had missed it. His social life has proven to be just as entertaining. His foster parents initially thought he was chasing the resident cat, only to realize she was actually seeking him out so they could race up and down the hallway together. She ultimately had much more stamina than Skippy, who eventually called it quits with a dramatic sploot on the floor. Like many dogs who haven't always had stability, Skippy needs a family that understands trust is earned, not rushed. He warms up gradually, prefers women initially, and likes to feel safe before fully relaxing. Once he trusts you, he's incredibly loyal. He's housebroken, sleeps through the night, rides well in the car, and does well home alone. While he has shown some resource guarding of his foster mom toward his foster dad, it's limited to barking rather than aggression, and his foster family is making great progress helping him feel more secure. Skippy is looking for a calm, structured home (ideally without children) that will continue building his confidence. He'd do best as the only dog, with people who enjoy walks and adventures but also appreciate a dog who's perfectly content basking in the sunshine afterward. Because he doesn't like faces getting close to his own, he'll need a family without children that respects his space and lets him set the pace for affection. He also believes that if food exists anywhere within reach, it should probably belong to him, so his future family will need to keep an eye on tempting snacks during walks and around the house. The good news? Despite his enthusiastic appetite, he isn't food aggressive—even when a cat helped itself to one of his treats, Skippy handled it like a gentleman. Skippy isn't looking for perfection. He's looking for patience, understanding, and someone willing to let him become the wonderful dog we already know he is. Give him a little time, a lot of walks, and a safe place to land, and you'll gain a loyal companion who's well worth the wait. Skippy is approximately 10 years old and 32 lbs. Story
Meet Stuffing. If there happens to be food involved, Stuffing would like to volunteer as quality control. This 10-year-old Beagle has proudly appointed himself the kitchen supervisor, carefully overseeing every meal preparation in hopes that something might accidentally fall his way. Food is his love language, treats are always appreciated, and if you're heading toward the kitchen, you can expect a loyal little shadow to be right behind you. Stuffing is one of those wonderfully uncomplicated dogs who finds joy in life's simple pleasures: long sniffy walks, soft beds, gentle affection, and following his favorite person from room to room with an endlessly wagging tail. His foster describes him as laid-back, sweet, and incredibly easy to love. He has even charmed every member of his veterinary team with his gentle personality. Before coming to rescue, Stuffing lived much of his life outdoors and didn't experience the kind, loving touch every dog deserves. Because of that, quick movements or reaching for him unexpectedly can still make him nervous. But give him a soft voice, a gentle hand, and a little patience, and you'll quickly earn his trust. Stuffing has a chronic autoimmune lung condition called eosinophilic bronchopneumopathy, which is well managed with medication. He'll need lifelong treatment, but it doesn't stop him from enjoying walks, outings, or even little adventures. His foster has already taken him hiking, to visit friends, and even on a beach vacation, and Stuffing has happily embraced every new experience. He's also making great progress with house training. Because his medication causes him to drink and urinate more, he simply needs frequent potty breaks. He doesn't yet know how to ask to go outside, so a consistent routine, along with a belly band or pee pad when needed, helps set him up for success. Stuffing isn't asking for much. Just someone who will take him on leisurely walks, let him supervise dinner preparations, offer plenty of gentle affection, and give him the loving home he should have had all along. Stuffing is ready to find a home! He is approx 6 years old and 23 lbs. Fostered in Rockville, MD Please apply at mirishaven.org

Story
Meet Violet! Violet may be one-eyed, blind and deaf, but don’t let that fool you ~ this girl is still living her best adventurous life. Found as a stray, Violet took to the skies on a volunteer flight to freedom at Miri's Haven. She loves strolling the yard, politely requesting pats and attention, and if fried chicken enters the house, she will locate it with shocking accuracy. Violet may be adorable, but she has standards: soft beds are required, fluffy blankets are mandatory, and rolling around in said blankets is a daily ritual. She is house trained when kept on a schedule and taken out regularly, and she's looking for a home without stairs. Or with a human servant prepared to carry her up and down like the Beagle Queen she is - either will do. Violet adores pets and attention, and absolutely loves food - and even the smell of it! This smart girl is food- and scent-motivated, and she's learning how much fun snuffle mats are. She especially loves snacking on dried sweet potato. Violet isn't leash-trained but loves to be outside, so she's looking for a home with a fenced in yard where she can do all the sniffing her heart desires. She'll do best in a family that can provide structure and a consistent routine. Violet is a great passenger in the car, sleeps soundly through the night, and doesn't mind staying home when her humans are out. She gets along well with everyone - kids, cats, and other dogs included. She needs daily eye drops but takes them easily like a great patient. Violet is a sweet old soul with a gentle heart and a nose that absolutely works overtime. She is so ready to bring her cozy, loving vibes into a forever home...could it be yours? Violet is approximately 12 years old and 20 lbs. Fostered in Severn, MD Please apply at MirisHaven.org

APPLICATION LINK: https://shaynesrescue.com/adoption-application-pet-central-satx/ We must have an application to move forward. (Shayne's Rescue is an affiliate with PetCentralSATX). If there are problems with the website, please email me for help. LILIANA is a 6yo Beagle mix female. This makes her a "low-rider" -- short legs. She weighs 30#s. LILIANA is an absolute super dog and soooo easy to love. You won't be sorry! She is a very sweet and sensitive dog. She likes to lay in the bed with me and snuggle up next to me or sometimes sleep at the foot-rest of my bed. She adopted me immediately and enjoys to be with me. She loves playing with all my dogs from small to big dogs. Liliana thinks she is a “lap” dog. I call her a “couch potato.” She is crate trained; leash trained (very easy); house trained; and loves to go riding in a car or going for a walk. She definitely a human-pleasing dog. She doesn’t have any prey driven instincts when she sees squirrels or cats on the walks. Liliana also has a very sweet attitude towards people in general. As much as we have not had her around children, she is very nice to all ages. This dog is CURRENTLY IN TEXAS and available for pre-adoption. Adoptions include neuter/spay, vaccinations (DHPP, Bordetella, Rabies), microchip, health certificate, transport with our professional dog transporter, and 6 mos of heart worm prevention. You will receive the dog's folder with all the printouts proving the medical treatments received. Adoption Fee: Includes all of the vetting and transportation. If you have any questions or would like an e-mail from us as to how all of this works, text me (Terry); identify the dog's name and give me your email address... 210-394-6060.
