Story
Meet Harley f.n.a Harlow! This sweet Beagle girl was found as a pregnant stray in rural South Carolina and gave birth to her puppies in a local shelter. Thanks to one of our rescue partners, Harlow and her babies were taken in and given a second chance. Her puppies all found rescue, and this sweet mama girl came into our care. Now it's Harlow's turn to find her forever home. Harley quickly settled into her new pack, living with a foster mom and dad, four dogs, and a 1-year-old toddler. Like many rescue dogs, she needed a little time to build confidence, trust her people, and learn the rules of home life—but she made progress every day. After making the trip to Northern Virginia in late August, Harley is now being fostered in Stafford with a mom, dad, 5-year-old, and another dog. And we’re happy to report that this sweet girl is 100% kid- and dog-tested!  Harley has a "live and let live" personality and has integrated easily with the other dogs. While she enjoys their company and often chooses to nap beside them, she's independent enough to thrive as an only dog, too. Whether she's part of a pack or the center of your world, Harlow is simply happy to be included. She is a medium-energy girl who enjoys exploring the outdoors, zooming around the yard, meeting new people, and, above all else, playing with toys. She LOVES her toys. She happily empties the toy basket, entertains herself, and occasionally breaks into hilarious zoomies. Her nose is also almost always down, as you'd expect from a Beagle, and she does best walking with a harness. Harley does great in her crate. She may whine or give you her very funny "old lady hound" howl when she sees you, but she settles down and relaxes. She's also very food motivated, which is a big help as she's learning more commands and working on her manners. Like many young dogs who have spent much of their lives living outdoors instead of being pets, Harley is still learning the rules of home life. She's making great progress with housetraining, does well in her crate, and is learning leash skills. She's not destructive, but may chew something if left unattended for longer periods of time. She's also working on jumping up and counter surfing, typical young-dog behaviors that her foster family is helping her correct. She takes direction well. What stands out most about Harley is her gentle, loving nature. Her foster family describes her as a very sweet, happy girl who has made great progress adjusting to home life. Watching her discover comfort, routine, and affection has been a joy, and she's ready to leave her life as mama behind and become someone's devoted companion. If you're looking for a kind, gentle Beagle with a playful side who would thrive with an active family willing to continue working on her manners, Harley may be the perfect addition to your family.  Apply today! Story
Meet Waylon! Waylon was found running as a stray in Chester, SC, and fortunately found his way to rescue. We see far too many Beagles wandering as strays in this area, and while we don’t know Waylon’s history, we do know one thing for sure: this boy is incredibly lovable. Waylon is one of the sweetest and most affectionate foster dogs his foster mom has had in her home. He is outgoing, confident, and VERY snuggly. Give him a lap and he’ll happily crawl right in, tuck his head into your neck, and soak up all the love you’re willing to give.  He’s also a social butterfly. Waylon instantly hit it off with his foster’s three dogs and has happily made friends with visiting family dogs, too. Even at the vet, he seemed convinced every dog he met wanted to be his friend. We think he’d enjoy having another dog around, but he could also do well as an only dog in a home where his people have a flexible schedule and plenty of time to spend with him. He’s also cat-friendly and peacefully coexists with his foster’s two cats. And kids? He loves them, too. He has been around 8-year-old children and happily accepted all the attention, including plenty of hugs. Waylon has moderate energy. He enjoys neighborhood walks, where he loves putting his Beagle nose to work, and he has plenty of playful, puppy-like energy at home. He loves his toys and can be quite entertaining as he zooms around the house. He’s still learning that not everything within reach is a chew toy, so his forever family will need to provide some supervision and redirection. His foster mom recently started crate training, and he’s doing well. He’s also been able to stay uncrated in the house when she’s gone without any issues. He’s happy to share toys from the basket but prefers that his canine friends don’t take the one currently in his mouth. We don’t blame him!  Waylon is almost fully house-trained. He doesn’t yet signal when he needs to go outside, so a consistent schedule is important. At night, he’s happy sleeping on a dog bed beside his foster mom or in a crate in the bedroom. One thing his family will need to be mindful of is door safety. Waylon is curious and would happily take an open door as an invitation to go explore. He hasn’t tried to climb or dig out of his foster’s fenced yard, but like many Beagles, he’ll take an opportunity to investigate when a door is left open. If you’re looking for a dog who wants to be your best friend, your shadow, and your professional snuggle buddy, Waylon may be your guy. He’s sweet, social, playful, affectionate, and full of personality, and ready to find the family who will love him as much as he loves everyone he meets. ❤️ BEED ESTIMATE: Beagle Mix GENDER: Male APPROXIMATE WEIGHT: 32 lbs APPROXIMATE AGE: ~ 6 to 7 years old COAT TYPE: Medium coat ADOPTION FEE: $425 OTHER INFO: UTD on shots/spayed/microchipped LOCATION: York, SC - Coming to N. Story
Meet Poppy!  Some dogs just need another dog to show them the way, and that's exactly who Poppy is. This sweet young girl was found wandering as a stray in a known dumping area, but thanks to a Good Samaritan, she made her way to Worthy Dog Rescue and has discovered what it means to be safe, loved, and part of a family. Poppy has blossomed in her foster home, where she's living with another dog, Maggie, and several cats. While she was initially shy and reserved, with the help of her canine companion, she’s gaining confidence every day. Maggie has shown her the ropes, and Poppy now follows her everywhere, squeezes onto the couch or dog bed just to be close to her, and clearly takes comfort in having another dog by her side. Because of this, we feel Poppy will do best in a home with another confident, friendly dog to help her continue building confidence. Poppy is housetrained, crate trained, and settles well in her crate when her family is away. Like many rescue dogs adjusting to home life, she experienced some separation anxiety during her transition, so her crate has been an important tool in helping her feel safe and secure. Having another dog has also made a big difference, and we believe she'll do best with adopters who have a flexible schedule and can continue building her confidence as she settles into her new home. She's been great at navigating a busy household, including frequent visits from nurses, physical therapists, and even a steady stream of contractors during a home renovation. She's accepting of visitors, curious about children without being overly excitable, and isn't a jumper. Once she feels comfortable, Poppy has become more affectionate. She loves curling up on the couch for snuggles, sleeps in bed with her foster family, and is happiest when she's close to her favorite people. Her foster mom says one of her favorite things is watching Poppy gently rest her head on her husband’s knee while relaxing together. Outdoors is where Poppy's playful side really shines. She’s an active dog who loves walks and exploring new places, happily weaving through the brush, investigating every interesting scent, and chasing squirrels up trees. At home, she'll proudly bring you a tennis ball over and over again for an endless game of fetch, and she enjoys chewing on bones and sturdy toys. She’s been living in a more rural setting and would love an active family that enjoys spending time outside and will include her on walks, hikes, and adventures. Poppy is still gaining confidence in new situations, so she'll need a patient family willing to give her some time to settle in. The reward is a sweet, loyal companion who forms deep bonds and wants nothing more than to be close to the people and the dog companion she loves. If you're looking for a gentle, affectionate dog who will thrive with a canine companion and blossom with love, patience, and adventure, Poppy may be the perfect addition to your family. Required: Needs a home with another social, confident dog and a flexible schedule.  Apply today!  BREED ESTIMATE: Beagle Mix GENDER: Female APPROXIMATE WEIGHT: ~ 40 lbs (needs to lose a few pounds) APPROXIMATE AGE: ~  2 years old COAT TYPE:  short ADOPTION FEE: $425 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/spayed/microchipped LOCATION: Waxhaw, NC     FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to https://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application. Story
Meet Theresa! ❤️ Theresa is a sweet 10-year-old Beagle girl who has found herself in rescue through no fault of her own. Her elderly owner passed away, and suddenly the only home she had ever known was gone. Theresa is good with dogs, good with cats, and is housetrained! She has a cute way of letting you know when she needs to go outside—she’ll simply pace the floor until you get the message! 🥰 Theresa came into rescue with her friend Winnie, who is also available for adoption. While they were surrendered together, they do not need to be adopted together. Theresa would be perfectly happy finding a loving family of her own. This sweet girl has a very low activity level and is happiest just hanging out with her people. She would love a home where she can relax, lounge around, and curl up with you on the couch while everyone watches TV in the evening. She isn't looking for an adventurous, high-energy lifestyle—she's looking for a soft bed, a peaceful home, and someone to love. ❤️ At 10 years old, Theresa is well beyond the puppy craziness and ready to settle into a loving family. If you're looking for a sweet, easygoing Beagle companion who would rather chill beside you than run a marathon, Theresa may be your girl. 🐾❤️ Theresa is ready for her next chapter—and she deserves a family who will love her for all the years ahead. She is heartworm negative, up to date on heartworm/flea prevention, vaccines, and will be microchipped. Theresa is being fostered in Mississippi but can be transported to you if you decide to adopt. If you are interested, please message us and we will be happy to send an adoption application to get the adoption process started! 💲 Adoption Fee: $450 The adoption fee includes: 🐶 Spay/neuter 💉 Vaccinations 🪱 Deworming ❤️ Current heartworm and flea prevention 📍 Microchip 🚚 Transport to a location near your through Rescue Riders LLC

Story
At approximately 5 months old and 24 pounds, she's a happy, playful pup who's ready to find a family of her own. She got spayed on June 19th and is thriving in her foster home, where she gets along wonderfully with the other dogs. Her submissive personality makes her an easy companion, and she's happy to let the other pups take the lead. Like any puppy, she's still learning the ropes! She'll need a family committed to continuing her training, especially with basic manners and house training. With consistency, patience, and plenty of praise, she's sure to blossom into an amazing lifelong companion. She's eager to please and at the perfect age to learn. Whether she's playing in the yard, making new canine friends, or relaxing by your side after a fun day, this sweetheart is happiest just being part of the family. If you're looking for a loving, gentle puppy who's ready to grow up with you, this beautiful girl can't wait to meet you.
