Story
Pearl is a beautiful young momma who loves her baby and grooms him and other dogs throughout the day. She knows her name well and responds when called. She is house trained, leash trained, loves walking and being outside, and has a laid-back personality for the most part, but alerts you with her beagle bark. She is very athletic, as well. She is great with people and really enjoys getting pet and having someone to snuggle. She has seen cats thru the window, and it seems like she would give a wild chase, so maybe cats are a no.    Adoption fee: $525, includes all shots, sterilized, heartworm negative, dewormed, flea preventative, microchip   If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application and a representative will get back to you shortly to answer any questions you may have. Story
Jayde's adoption fee is waived for the month of August! Jayde is about 3 years old and 25 lbs. Sadly, her owner was elderly and had several dogs that she couldn’t properly care for. Jayne can be fearful in new situations due to the lack of socialization for most of her life. Knowing that Jayde would need time to decompress we sent her to an amazing foster home that would spoil her and help her learn that people aren’t scary. Her fosters said: “Sugar and spice and everything nice describes Jayde perfectly. She is as sweet as can be although a bit shy at first. She doesn’t have a mean or aggressive bone in her body. She loves to go for walks and be outside in her yard. She is crate trained but also makes a wonderful bed companion for those inclined to have their new BFF close by during the night. Jayde loves to play with other dogs and she would likely do best with a youngish sibling who likes to play. She is potty trained, people friendly and not overly vocal. Jayde is looking for that special person who has a warm heart and the patience to let her get comfortable in her new home. This girl is a sweetheart and is ready for her next excellent adventure.” Interested in learning more about Jayde? Apply at www.novapetsalive.org/adopt. Jayde is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, was given dewormer and monthly preventatives, and is microchipped.

Story
Meet Shaggy, one of the Scooby Doo pups! Background: Velma and her three puppies — Fred, Shaggy, and Scrappy Doo — were found abandoned on Kelly Mountain in Logan County, WV, by a group of hunters, far from any nearby homes. When the hunters stopped, the dogs immediately approached them, friendly and social, which leads us to believe they once had a home and were intentionally left behind. Thankfully, a Good Samaritan stepped in and took the little family into her home until rescue help could be secured. Because of her compassion and quick action, Velma and her pups are now safe and settling into their local foster homes. Shaggy is being fostered with his brother, Scrappy, in a busy household with his foster mom and dad, two kids, two adult dogs, and even regular toddler visitors. It’s an ideal socialization environment for a young puppy. As a result, he is a happy, confident, well-adjusted boy who loves to be held and wants to be part of the action. Shaggy is crate-trained, sleeps through the night without accidents, and is making steady progress with his house manners. He has officially graduated to “big-boy” leash walks and is learning not to pull. He improves every day with practice. Much of Shaggy's early puppy training has already been done by his fabulous foster mom, Diana, who shared this update: Shaggy The largest puppy of the litter, is very social and loves to play. This sweet boy will do best in an active home with a pup playmate to keep him entertained. He's been around large dogs and young kids, too, and does well with all. Shaggy is more confident than his brothers and tends to take the lead on walks. He’s shown great improvement on leash and recently started going potty on leash. He even sat by the door and barked to let his foster dad know he needed to go out this week. Smart boy! If you have a puppy-friendly schedule and are looking for a well-started, well-socialized pup…Apply today!  Note: Shaggy is still too young to be neutered, but neutering at the appropriate age is required as part of his adoption terms. Proof of spay/neuter is required for all puppy adopters.   BREED ESTIMATE: Beagle/Hound Mix (Mutt Mix with gorgeous markings!) GENDER: Male APPROXIMATE WEIGHT:  20 lbs  APPROXIMATE AGE: ~ 16-17 weeks (expected to be medium-sized dogs, ~ 40 lbs) COAT TYPE: Medium coat ADOPTION FEE: $400.00 OTHER INFO: Current on shots, microchipped, too young to be neutered LOCATION:  Vienna, VA   FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to https://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application. You can also help save dogs like this one by becoming a foster, providing a rescue dog with a temporary home and giving them the love and care they need until they are permanently adopted. Every person who fosters is directly responsible for saving the life of a dog, because we can only save as many dogs as we have foster families available to welcome them into their homes. If you think you might be interested in becoming a foster and want to learn more, please go to https://foster.worthydog.org and fill out an application. Story
Meet Biggie Smalls, affectionately known as Biggie This handsome Beagle boy was nearly discarded because he wouldn’t hunt. His owner tried to trade him for fighting roosters, and when that didn’t work, planned to throw him out on the road. Thankfully, a local hunter we’ve worked with before learned of the situation and reached out to our foster mom, Johanna, for help. That intervention changed the course of Biggie’s life. Having lived as an outdoor hunting dog, Biggie tested positive for heartworm, but he is currently undergoing treatment and will be heartworm-free when he comes to town. Biggie is being fostered by Johanna alongside her four dogs and two cats. He has integrated easily with the dogs and is respectful (and a little fearful) of the cats. While he’s dog-friendly, he doesn’t require a canine companion and is primarily focused on his humans. He’s also done well with children (7 years). Biggie can be a bit timid when meeting new people and may still cower if someone approaches too quickly, but once picked up, he melts into your arms and loves to be held. He is adjusting well to being part of a family and growing more confident every day. Johanna describes Biggie as a sweet, laid-back boy. He’ll romp with the pack briefly, but he isn’t a high-energy player. He’s crate-trained and has done well with potty training since being neutered. Now that he’s discovered the comforts of indoor living, he much prefers being inside. Johanna lets him out to potty, and he comes right back in, clearly having left his outdoor hutch life behind. Biggie is learning leash walks and, like most Beagles, keeps his nose to the ground. He’s unfazed by traffic or neighborhood noises. At just 16 pounds, he’s a petite, gorgeous Beagle. If you’re looking for a sweet, laid-back Beagle who is good with dogs, kids, and cats, apply today! Thankfully, a Good Samaritan stepped in and took the little family into her home until rescue help could be found. Because of her compassion and quick action, Velma and her pups are now safe and settling into their local foster homes. The puppies have been bathed, dewormed, treated for fleas and ticks, and received their first round of vaccinations. They are approximately 10–11 weeks old (12–14 lbs) and will be ready to go home soon. We don't know their breed. Their mom, Velma, is a tall, trim dog who looks to be a Feist/Hound mix, and is about 28lbs.  All three puppies are very friendly and enjoy being held. They’re active and playful but also sleep through the night without accidents - Good puppies! They’re already comfortable wearing collars, and their foster parents have begun leash introductions and short practice walks to build confidence. Fred (red collar) is the calmest of the litter and a bit more reserved. He enjoys having his own space and isn’t a fan of his brothers stealing his toys. While he’s a great pack member, we think he may also thrive as an only dog. He's been around large dogs and young kids, too, and does well with all.  This sweet boy will do best in an active home that’s ready for puppy mode. If you have a puppy-friendly schedule and are prepared for potty training and basic obedience, apply today! Note: Fred is still too young to be neutered, but neutering at the appropriate age is required as part of his adoption terms. Proof of spay/neuter is required for all puppy adopters.
