Story
Sophie, a 9-year-old beagle mix, is the ultimate social butterfly—she adores dogs, cats, people, and even carrots! She’s happiest on a stroll but also enjoys neighborhood watch duty from her favorite cozy spot. Though she was recently diagnosed with diabetes, she’s doing well with insulin management. Her BFF, Scout, is a 10-year-old shih tzu mix who started life in a puppy mill, making her a bit shy around humans. But when it comes to dogs—especially Sophie—Scout is all in. Scout enjoys walks alongside Sophie, though she prefers to avoid grass.Sophie is potty-trained, while Scout prefers using a potty pad due to lingering effects from her early life. Both are up to date on vaccines and looking for a home filled with love. Can you give this loveable, bonded pair a safe space? If you are interested in fostering, adopting, or fostering to adopt these besties, we`d love to hear from you!

Story
Meet Banjo – A Sweet Senior Beagle Looking for a Peaceful Forever Home Banjo is a charming 11–12-year-old beagle with a gentle soul and a heart full of love. He’s at that golden stage in life where he simply wants to enjoy the little things—soft beds, quiet companionship, and the occasional squeaky toy or bone to chew on. This mellow gentleman gets along wonderfully with people, including kids, and even does well with cats. Banjo can be around other dogs and gets along with them, but he would prefer to be the only dog in the home where he can fully relax and soak up all the love and attention. He would thrive in a calm environment without high-energy dogs, as he’s not getting along with our younger red fox labs—one of the reasons we’re making the difficult decision to rehome him. If you're someone who enjoys laid-back days and quiet evenings with a furry friend by your side, Banjo might just be the perfect match. Let’s help him live out his golden years in comfort and love. Story
Update: Meet Malia, a beautiful Beagle mix who has grown up at Helping Paws after arriving as a tiny puppy just a few weeks old. Having spent her whole life at the shelter, Malia has formed a special bond with a staff member, showing just how loyal and loving she can be once she trusts you. She’s the kind of dog who becomes your shadow, always by your side, ready to be your most devoted companion.Malia is incredibly food- and treat-motivated, which makes training a fun and rewarding experience. She’s a quick learner who enjoys mental challenges like puzzle toys and is always eager to pick up a new skill. She walks beautifully on a leash (most of the time) and absolutely loves her daily walks, but like many dogs who have grown up in a shelter, she’ll need a little help with potty training once she’s in a home environment.Though Malia can be a bit wary of strangers at first, her cautiousness comes from her desire to protect her people. That said, she wouldn’t hurt a fly she just needs a moment to assess new situations and feel safe. With patience and love, she’ll warm up and show you her sweet, goofy side.Malia is waiting for a forever family to give her the home she’s never had a place where she can truly shine as the loyal, intelligent, and loving dog she was always meant to be.Meet Malia, a spirited and intelligent Beagle mix who’s been at Helping Paws since she was just a couple of weeks old. She was adopted for a brief time, but her family soon realized they weren’t quite ready for her playful energy and brought her back. When Malia first returned, she was a bit timid and shy, and she may still come across that way when meeting potential adopters in the quieter meet-and-greet rooms. Don’t let that initial shyness fool you—outside of those rooms, Malia is a total social butterfly!Malia absolutely adores her doggie friends and human pals. She’s a little protective, so if she sees someone unfamiliar on the street, her hackles might go up, and her big-girl bark might come out—but it’s just her way of keeping an eye out for those she loves. Her favorite activity at the shelter is running and playing in the yard, where her energetic personality truly shines. She also enjoys her treat puzzles, which keep her sharp mind engaged and busy.Malia walks well on a leash, although she can’t resist a bit of pulling when there are people or other dogs around—she’s simply eager to meet them!
