Story
Please contact Chandler Jaffe (chandler.jaffe@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.beautiful boy looking for his forever home!MUFASA NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:  Mufasa        Best Guess for Breed:   German Shepherd mix   Best Guess for Age:  2 years as of Oct 2025        SEX:   Male   Approximate Weight:  60lbs as of Oct 2025   Gets Along With:  Other dogs! We haven't seen them with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!   Currently Living at:  Shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area   Special adoption considerations: Mufasa is a truly Lucky Dog. He tested positive for heartworms, but landed in a place where heartworm treatment is provided! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. We are happy to discuss where in the treatment process this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!   Mufasa is Looking For:    A loving home where he can be part of the family. He’s ready to give his love in exchange for long sniffy walks, frequent dog park visits, and belly rubs. Oh - and doggy school too so he can show you how smart he is! Can’t you see this handsome guy snuggling by your side?   What My Foster Says About Me: Coming soon!   Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. MIKEY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!   Name:   Mikey        Best Guess for Breed:   German shepherd, lab and boxer mix Best Guess for Age:   7 years as of April 2025      SEX:    Male   Approximate Weight:   64 lbs   View more cute photos of Mikey here:  https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjBMXGr;    Gets Along With:    Mikey lives with other dogs of all sizes and does very well. He would do best in a home with no cats or young kids as he likes to jump to say hello and lives life to smother you with affection -- big smiles and tongue out.   Current Location: DC area foster home Check out this video of Mikey's basketball practice: https://youtu.be/j-2r-03pLLM.  Follow Mikey on Instagram at instagram.com/mikeythegoober.  Your Life with Mikey: You get home. His tail goes thump thump thump as he eagerly awaits his favorite thing in the world: You. You open his crate. He jumps out and shows you how happy he is to see you.  You change into your gym shoes and open the door to your fenced backyard. He goes out, sniffs around and does his business, then has a little romp. He sees you walk up with a basketball and he jumps around ecstatically - it’s time to play basketball! He loves basketball! You can see in those videos how much he loves it.  After a game where you think he probably could beat you if he had opposable thumbs, you two go back in. He lumbers over to his crate to chill while you whip up dinner for everyone.  After dinner is the best part. Mikey looks at you with adoring eyes as he galumphs up, turns around, and plops down on your lap. It doesn’t matter that he’s 64 pounds. In his vision of himself, he is a svelte boy no bigger than a Pomeranian, and a human lap is his destiny.  You look down at him - well, maybe up at him when he’s on your lap. And you go “Aw I love you, you big lug.” See, Mikey is one of those awesome dogs with a simple outlook on life. He loves his spot (his crate or lying on a rug at your feet). He loves running around in a fenced yard. And he loves beyond all belief - he completely adores - his humans.  Because he loves people so much and has no clue how big he is, he needs to go to a home where the humans are of an appropriate size and sturdiness to handle him happily plonking down on them. Small children and delicate individuals are not the ideal fit for an onslaught of Mikey-love. He currently lives in a foster home where there are many dogs, including a 12-pound dachshund, so it’s hard to blame him for looking at that one daintily perching on human laps and thinking “me too!” Being a simple dog, he’s also one of those with unshakable dog logic. In his case, Mikey finds wheels scary. So he prefers to run around a nice fenced backyard rather than encounter bicycles, skateboards, and other wheeled items on walks. He rides in a car just fine - it’s just those other wheels. You know. Dog logic.  Mikey is such a sweetie, such an incredibly loyal companion to his humans. Since he thrives running around a big fenced backyard, his family wouldn’t be walking him. He is also terrific in his crate and relishes being in there, so managing him while he’s in the house isn’t complicated. Giving him all the pets and rubs and scratches he demands, that’s definitely work. But the payoff is wonderful. Having a big, super affectionate, simple minded (uncomplicated) dog is an amazing experience - that true unconditional love. What do you say? Can Mikey give all he has to offer to you? Look for stories and posts: @luckydogrescues   Currently Living at:  DC area foster home   Simon is Looking For:  His forever family! German shepherds are a special breed - they're super attached to their humans and Simon is looking for that attachment - to give and get love, to be a loyal companion. He's also a young boy with all that great energy to burn on sniffy walks, romps in parks, and all the adventures his family can dream up. What do you say? Is Simon the companion you have been seeking?   What Simon Knows: Simon spent some time on the Dogs Playing For Life Canine Center campus in Florida. There, he received basic training and enrichment. He worked on the Sit and Place commands, loose leash walking, and sitting at open doors, waiting to be released to go out. He also got to play with enrichment toys such as food-filled Kongs and food puzzles.  What My Foster Says About Me:  Simon is a big love bug and wants to shower people in love! He's very affectionate and also incredibly smart! He's picking up on training really well. He's super snuggly and wants to be next to us all the time.  He loves toys and treats, and will entertain himself with toys if my resident dog doesn't want to wrestle with him (which is his favorite thing to do). Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. Story
Sometimes it’s hard to understand how the world can fail animals the way it does. How does a stunning pair of 7-month-old, purebred German Shepherd sisters end up wandering as strays in a quiet rural Tennessee town? Yet that’s exactly how Luna’s story began.  Luna is the more shy and observant of the two sisters, but her joyful spirit shines through immediately. At 46 pounds, she already carries herself with a calm, sweetnes that tells you what a great companion she will make a family.   She walks beautifully on a leash, is crate trained, and rides like a pro in the car. Despite everything she’s been through, Bella remains happy, affectionate, and easy to connect with. She lives peacefully alongside cats and dogs of all sizes and blends into new environments with impressive ease. Luna is not hyper or unruly — she is thoughtful, observant, and ready to learn. With continued confidence-building and positive reinforcement, she will grow into an incredible adult German Shepherd, likely reaching 70–75 pounds.  Luna and her sister Bella were never claimed, and after waiting weeks with no one coming for them, they were released into the care of Critter Cavalry Rescue. We made them a promise — to find them experienced, loving, German Shepherd-savvy homes where they can thrive. A fenced yard is required, as well as adopters committed to gentle guidance, training, and building trust. Luna is a wonderful fresh young life  ready to be molded into a loyal, well-mannered companion.  She and Bella are ready to be home for Christmas — warm beds, loving people, and a future they deserve.       Please contact Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com if you are interested in adopting our special. Luna   PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comDecember 14, 2025, 1:48 pm

Story
Bella is a 7-month-old purebred German Shepherd with a bright future ahead of her — and we can’t wait to see where life takes her next. Found wandering as a stray in rural Tennessee alongside her sister Luna, Bella somehow landed on the right side of luck when she came into the care of Critter Cavalry Rescue. Of the two sisters, Bella is the more outgoing and confident. She currently weighs 47 pounds and is already showing what a well-balanced young shepherd she is. She walks nicely on a leash, is crate trained, and rides calmly in the car — all impressive qualities for a puppy her age. Bella gets along beautifully with other dogs, large and small, and is respectful around cats. She isn’t wild, pushy, or chaotic; instead, she’s thoughtful, steady, and eager to please. With positive reinforcement, structure, and continued confidence-building, she will blossom into a stunning adult shepherd, estimated to mature around 70–75 pounds.   After weeks of waiting with no owner stepping forward, Bella and Luna were officially released to CCR, and we are committed to finding them excellent, German Shepherd-savvy homes. A securely fenced yard is required, along with adopters who understand the breed and are excited to continue her training and development.Bella is sweet, adaptable, and ready to learn what it means to truly belong. She and her sister Luna are ready to be home for Christmas, and we would love nothing more than to make that wish come true. If you’re interested in adopting Bella, please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com.       PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comDecember 14, 2025, 1:48 pm

Story
The rescue story of our perfect German Shepherd boy called Aries as told by his foster mom. He is about 6-7 years and just under 80 pounds: Aries is probably the happiest dog I’ve ever had! He has a lot to celebrate and I think he knows it… I heard that a GSD was at a full local “kill” shelter and made up my mind to rescue him when I heard he had 1 more day. When I went to the shelter to pick him up, his demeanor was to maintain his distance. You could tell he was confused and on his back foot about where he was and why. Then he got a whiff of my farm boots and the great outdoors and his expression changed.Upon arrival at my farm, his personality came alive. I turned him loose in a big grassy field and he ran and sniffed and explored, always coming back to check in with me to make sure I was ok with his enthusiasm!!Since that day he has never looked back. The freedom and carefree abandon he is experiencing is evident in his happy eyes and tail wags. His best friends are two Heelers who he frolics with for hours. His most favorite toy is a big blue ball that he happily plays with when everyone else is resting. Every morning and evening when I feed him he expresses gratitude with wags and a loving lick or two to my face. The best situation for him would be a home with a big yard and lots of room to run and play. He is is a mature and settled, calm dog who has thrived here with me and his new dog friends. He prefers no cat friends!     If you would like to know more please write to Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com      PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comNovember 13, 2025, 12:29 am
