Story
Meet Swift, your brilliant, high-energy sidekick with a big personality and an even bigger heart. At just 1.5 years old, Swift has all the drive, intelligence, and intensity you’d expect from his Malinois background. He’s affectionate, goofy, incredibly smart, and thrives when he has a job to do. This is a dog who wants a partner, not just a home, someone ready to engage with him, challenge his brain, and build a strong bond together. Swift is house trained and crate trained, doing best when he has a cozy covered crate where he can settle quietly. He loves being with his people, but he’s already beginning to learn how to settle and self-soothe when his fosters leave with time and consistency. He knows basic cues like sit and name recognition and is eager to keep learning. He’s currently working on leash skills and making progress with a gentle leader. Swift does well with female dogs and small dogs when properly and slowly introduced. He is not a match for homes with cats. Because of his energy level and working-dog intensity, he’s best suited for an experienced owner and a home with older, dog-savvy kids or adults. What makes Swift especially unique is his resilience. He came to us with a rear hock injury that went untreated long enough that surgery is no longer an option. While he can absolutely enjoy normal daily life, he won’t be a candidate for high-impact sports. Instead, Swift shines in activities like scent work, training games, swimming, and enrichment. He has already completed multiple nose work classes and absolutely loves it, and swimming has become both a favorite activity and great therapy for his leg. Swift will need a home committed to structured, low-impact exercise and plenty of mental stimulation. Think long walks, puzzle toys, scent work, frozen Kongs, and continued training. With the right outlet, he is an incredibly rewarding dog who will give you his whole heart. If you’re looking for a smart, driven, slightly chaotic, deeply loving companion and you’re ready to meet him where he is, Swift just might be your perfect match. At Green Dogs Unleashed (GDU), we are dedicated to ensuring the successful placement of our dogs in loving, permanent homes. Over the years, we have seen an increasing number of returns due to behavioral issues that could have been prevented with the right support. A significant percentage of these returns involve out-of-area clients or those who have not completed training with GDU. To address this, positive reinforcement training with Green Dogs Unleashed is required as a condition for all adoptions. Preference for this dog will be given to adopters who commit to signing up for and completing our six-week Canine 101 training class in person at our headquarters in Troy, VA. Secondary consideration will be given to a limited number of out-of-area adopters who agree to complete one private lesson with GDU, either in person or virtually, and attend a pre-approved positive reinforcement training class in their area. At the time you are seeing this post, this dog is still available for adoption. But please know that we may be working on multiple applications already, and any one of them could be approved at any time. Please READ THIS ENTIRE DESCRIPTION and complete an adoption application, if you are interested in any of our animals. Application at www.greendogsunleashed.org If you send an inquiry to ask if the dog is still available, or just tell us you are interested, your inquiry will not be answered. FILL OUT AN APPLICATION. We can do NOTHING without that. No, we cannot tell you if he would be a match for your family without seeing an application. PLEASE KEEP READING for info. */*/* PLEASE NOTE: The first communication you will receive after completing an application will be an email response, which will have instructions on how to proceed. Please check your inbox AND spam folders for the next 48 hours, for this email. We will not begin processing an application without the information requested in that email. */*/* We are happy to consider applicants from out of state on most dogs. Please read the description to see if this dog is an exception. If the applicant is approved to adopt, they MUST be willing to come to our location in Troy, VA, for a meet and greet. If all parties agree that the pup and family are a good fit, they would take the pup home at that time. For more information about our mission and for an APPLICATION for adoption, please go to www.greendogsunleashed.com. GDU does ask a minimum adoption fee of $400.00. This does not even come close to covering all expenses created by animals while in rescue. We are funded solely by the angels and volunteers willing to donate time and finances. This minimum fee includes DAPP, rabies if age appropriate,, heartworm test and preventative, if age appropriate, and flea and tick treatment, as well as neutering or spaying, if the animal is medically sound to undergo surgery. In an attempt to avoid tummy upset from a sudden change of food, the foster family may include a small, transitional bag of the food the dog/puppy has been eating. And if the dog/puppy has grown attached to a special item (like a toy or blanket), they may send that along, as well. */*/* Young puppies will receive age-appropriate vaccines, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Adopters may be required to provide additional puppy boosters and at 16 weeks of age, a rabies vaccine. Future annual vaccines, testing and monthly heartworm preventative are REQUIRED, and will be the financial responsibility of the adopter. *****Due to the sheer number of animals and applications in our program, coupled with a limited number of volunteers, applicants MUST have patience as we process applications.   If you do not hear back from us, the animal may have been adopted.   We strive to let people know but sadly cannot offer reasons for denial beyond that.  Any harassment of our volunteers will go unanswered and we will simply block you.   Our volunteers spend their time working hard to ensure the very best for each animal.   Please remember the animal, not the applicant, is our client.*****  ##2667169##

Story
Hi, I am a 4yr old Belgian Malinois that is full of spunk but also enjoys peace and quiet. I was raised around kids and other dogs, and I do well with both! I prefer older kids who understand how to be gentle and respectful, and I get along with other dogs as long as they respect my space too. I’m a happy, easygoing girl who just wants a loving home where I can be part of the family. I love going on hikes and exploring the outdoors, but I’m just as happy relaxing at home by your side. I know basic commands (come, sit, stay, place, down) and I am eager to learn more. One thing to know about me: I can jump, but I choose not to. I’ve never jumped my family’s 4-foot fence because I’d much rather be inside with my people. That’s where my heart is. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will stick by your side through adventures and cozy nights alike, I might just be your girl! I am located near Woodbrige, VA.

Story
Meet Darrell Darrell is a handsome Belgian Malinois with brains, heart, and boundless energy to spare. Smart, curious, and endlessly enthusiastic, this boy approaches life with the kind of zest that makes every day an adventure. And if you want to win him over fast? Just bring treats — they're absolutely his love language. Don't let his high-drive breed fool you into thinking he's all business, though. Darrell has a wonderfully gentle and thoughtful side. He's been patient and kind with an 8-year-old child, striking that perfect balance between playful companion and careful friend — a testament to just how tuned-in he really is. When it comes to the practical stuff, Darrell is already ahead of the curve. He's crate-trained, appears mostly housebroken, and is a surprisingly calm travel companion — he's proven he can handle Northern Virginia rush-hour traffic like a seasoned commuter, riding comfortably through trips of an hour or more. Outside, Darrell truly comes alive. He thrives on walks, runs, and outdoor adventures, and loves nothing more than putting that brilliant Malinois mind to work — whether he's tackling a wobble feeder or sniffing out hidden treats scattered across the yard. Active, loyal, and fun to train, Darrell is ready to be your devoted partner in crime. Could you be the adventure he's been waiting for?    Adoption fee includes: first 2 DAPP, bordetella, deworming, flea preventative, sterilized, heartworm test, microchip Adoption fee: $525.00   If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application and a representative will get back to you shortly to answer any questions you may have. Story
Seeking a highly qualified foster or adopter looking for a working or sport dog. Lycan is trained in German, knows bite work, has high ball drive, and was scheduled for euthanasia before we stepped in. Seeing the intelligence behind this dog, we sent him straight to a trainer. They confirmed what we already suspected—someone put real, professional work into him. He reads your hands, responds to commands, and is ready to work. He’s engaged, aware, and looking for direction. Maybe he flunked out of a program. Maybe he got lost. He didn’t have a tag or microchip, so we may never know. While we don’t know his exact breed or mix, some have suggested he may come from KNPV lines. That’s not our area to confirm, but we welcome feedback from those familiar with this type of dog. Aside from his drive, he’s excellent with people. Lycan will give you his paw and roll onto his back the second he meets you. He’s social, confident, and genuinely enjoys interaction. He loves to work. He wants a job. That’s where he’s happiest. Lycan is five years old, about 70 lbs, neutered, heartworm negative, and currently in boarding with a trainer until the right home is found. He’s medium to high drive and currently reactive to male dogs, which is manageable for someone experienced and familiar with dogs like him. We are looking for a specific home: sport, protection, or working, or simply someone who can handle this type of dog. Someone experienced who understands what they’re looking at and actually wants a dog like this. This is not a casual pet. He needs to be engaged and given a job so he can live up to his full potential, because that’s what he truly enjoys. Transport available anywhere in the U.S. to approved applicants. Current location: Houston, TX See #Lycan0192 on Facebook for more info.

Story
Nedd was a stray in Miami and I pulled him as a foster in early November. Technically, I adopted him last month, so that he could come with us on our move from FL to VA. The animal welfare situation down there is truly awful and I’m hoping for more luck finding his furever here. Nedd is approximately 8. Neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, Heartworm negative, and on preventatives. He knows basic commands like sit, down, shake, stay, wait, come, go get a toy, and more. He is currently working on some off-leash skills. He loves his morning walks/jogs, working on obedience, playing tug, fetch, and flirt pole. He does have prey drive, so no cats/small animals in the home. I have children that he does great with. I also have a Saint Bernard and a Great Pyrenees that he lives with. He is very handler focused. He is house trained and sleeps on a dog bed in our room all night long. He would come with a collar, leash, bag of Sundays Dog Food, beds, toys, and more!

Story
Meet Artemis – Your Adventure Partner Awaits! Artemis is a beautiful 1-year-old Belgian Malinois with a heart for adventure and a brain to match. This smart girl is looking for an active person or family who wants a true partner for life. Her absolute favorite activity right now is going on long off-leash runs with her foster mom and her foster dog sister. Artemis thrives when she can stretch her legs, explore, and work alongside her human. If you enjoy hiking, trail running, training, or outdoor adventures, Artemis will happily be right by your side. Like many Malinois, Artemis is incredibly intelligent and eager to please. She loves learning and will flourish with someone who enjoys training and giving their dog a job. The good news? She isn’t overly sharp or intense like some in her breed—she has a lovely balance of drive and sweetness that makes her a joy to work with. Artemis would do best in a home that understands the needs of an active, working-breed dog. She will thrive with regular exercise, mental enrichment, and someone who enjoys engaging with their dog every day. Because of her strong prey drive, Artemis is not suitable for a home with cats, small animals, or small livestock. If you’re looking for a loyal, athletic, and incredibly smart companion to share your adventures, Artemis may be your perfect match. Ready to meet Artemis? She’s ready to find her person.
