Story
Introducing, Lucas! Have you ever seen a more handsome pup? We haven't either! But Lucas is more than just a pretty face, he is a wonderful dog as well. Lucas is about a year old and 65 lbs. Sadly, he was left in an outside kennel at a rural shelter skinny and with a neck wound. He tested positive for Heartworm Disease and has finalized his treatment and is now ready to find his forever home. Lucas is a fun loving dog! He is great with other dogs and is having the time of his life running and playing with his foster siblings. He lives for being loved on and is super sweet. If you enjoy taking your dog with you on adventures, Lucas is happy to join and rides very well in the car. Interested in learning more about Lucas? Apply at www.novapetsalive.org/adopt

Story
Charlie was surrendered to a shelter on the South Texas border as a euthanasia request by his owners. Unfortunately, his paperwork lists him as 9 years old, but it’s clear this was just a guess, as the owners didn’t provide any information about him—only the heartbreaking request to euthanize their gentle dog. It’s evident from his demeanor and condition that Charlie is much younger, likely around 3 to 4 years old, but he has already endured a tough and challenging life in such a short time. When Charlie arrived at the shelter, he was suffering from one of the worst ear infections we’ve ever seen. His ears were covered in blood and pus, yet he remained calm and patient while the shelter staff assessed and tended to his wounds. Despite his pain, Charlie’s gentle spirit shone through. Charlie is currently in temporary boarding while we work to find him a loving foster or adopter. His foster or adopter will need to be prepared to navigate his health issues, but SSR will fully sponsor his medical care. Additionally, his adoption will not be finalized until he is healthy and fully recovered. Everyone who has met Charlie—from the shelter staff to the transport drivers and boarding clinic—has described him as a truly wonderful dog. He is sweet, kind, and deserving of so much more than the circumstances he has endured. We are eager to get this special boy the love and care he deserves and into the perfect home! Most of our dogs, including Charlie, are located in and pulled from Texas, but once approved, we transport our dogs to wherever their forever family is. This means we are seeking care or a loving home for Charlie from someone located anywhere in the United States. Distance is never a barrier when it comes to finding the right family for our dogs!

Story
Bailey is doing amazing in his foster home. He is super sweet and extremely cute..... every time I look into his adorable crossed eyes, my heart smiles! Recovery is going well. He is barely scratching, and all his red, inflamed skin spots have calmed down. His right ear infection is the biggest battle at this time. Despite it no longer bleeding and super itchy. It is still pretty stinky. He has another 15 days of ear drops. We gave him a bath yesterday and and he did wonderfully! His back right leg does give him problems and occasional slightly drags (possibly due to Lyme positive). We do have to help him up into the back of our SUV, but I am sure he could get into the backseat of a car on his own. He's getting along very well with his foster sister, Hazy. She let's him know this is her house and completely respects that. They share water bowls and walk side by side on walks. Bailey has yet to have an accident in the house and walks great on a leash. He tends to pull occasionally, but a quick pull on the leach with a firm "heal" works great for him. He does like getting into the trash and has already learned that if he steps on the peddle, the lid will open. He also was able to pull things off the pantry shelf and helped himself to an entire bag of treats.

Story
Wally’s journey began with heartbreak but quickly turned into hope. For a dog like Wally, a car ride with his owners was probably the most joy he had ever known—until that ride ended with him being abandoned in a Walmart parking lot. Judging by the worn-out rope still attached to his collar, it seems likely he spent much of his life tied to a tree. When Wally was found, he also had a deep, untreated wound on his chest, which the vet suspected was caused by someone striking him weeks earlier. Thankfully, his wound is now fully healed, and Wally is ready to leave his painful past behind for a brighter future. Wally is about 1 year old and has proven to be a sweet and resilient pup. He gets along well with most dogs, though he’s not particularly fond of other dominant males and is learning to co-exist with the household cats. Wally is currently in San Antonio, TX, but he can be transported for his forever home.

Story
Introducing little Barlo 💖 We received a call from a vet partner in south Texas about a little “GSD mix puppy” that had been hit by a car and was suffering from a broken leg. They stated the owner didn’t want to provide any medical care and would be interested in surrendering. If anyone is looking for a smaller breed puppy, we’ve got him! His leg has been splinted since we took him in and it is healing nicely! He is growing and is quite active even with his cast. He is definitely just a puppy!
