Come meet Benito and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (1/4) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Alexandria, VA (3351 Richmond Hwy, Alexandria, VA 22305)! Name: Benito Best Guess for Breed: Border collie mix Best Guess for Age: 2 years as of November 2025 SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 25 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: DC area foster home Special adoption considerations: Dogs from Puerto Rico have a major transition to go through when they arrive and will need humans who are very committed to socialization. We think he would do best with either a resident dog or a family who can make sure he can go on walks regularly with other dogs, visit the dog park, or go to doggie daycare to learn the ropes. See this sweetie in this video! - https://www.youtube.com/shorts/6H4O0f7TmYI Benito is Looking For: Benito is a sato - a dog from Puerto Rico. He's eager to get his own humans in the DC area - he's a young boy and has so much to see and do. Long sniffy walks, romps with pup pals, and all the adventures his new family can dream up - yes, please! Dog school would be great, too, so he can show how super smart he is. Most of all, though, he wants to know he's safe and under his own roof for all his days. In exchange, he promises to always put a smile on your face - and to give so much love and loyalty. What do you say? Is Benito the one you see by your side? What Volunteers Says About Me: Benito is a wonderfully sweet and affectionate young dog who makes a great impression from the moment you meet him. On our days out together, he was a delight to walk with—attentive on leash, happy to stay close, and polite when passing other dogs and people. He also interacted nicely with my parents’ senior dog and showed lots of friendly enthusiasm. He has plenty of youthful energy and really enjoys playtime, making him a great match for an active home or a playful canine companion. Even so, he was respectful around an older dog who wasn’t interested in playing, and he showed calm curiosity during a brief, controlled introduction to a cat.Indoors, Benito is curious and eager to explore. He responds well to gentle redirection and pays close attention to the people around him. He’s bright, engaged, and clearly enjoys learning, which makes time with him feel fun and rewarding.Benito is loving, social, energetic, and full of personality — a charming companion for someone who enjoys an active, affectionate dog.
