Story
Meet Betsy: Betsy is a 1 year old (as of February 2026) Blue Heeler / German Shorthair mix (best guess) that weighs 61 pounds. Betsy was surrendered to us by her owners when she was about 6 months old. Betsy was skinny, had Demodex Mange with lots of hair missing and the owners just did not want her anymore. We scooped Betsy up and started working with her to develop into the beautiful young lady we knew she could be! Betsy is currently being fostered in the south and would love to take the freedom ride north to Pennsylvania to meet more prospective families. Betsy is now a very healthy girl with a nice coat. Betsy is a friendly girl that is great with people and great with other dogs. Betsy is good on a leash but will need a fenced in yard for her to run off energy. Betsy would thrive in a home with an active family and another dog. Betsy does have a habit of jumping up on you but we are working on this and she is showing signs of progress. Betsy is crate trained and doing great with her potty training. Betsy is up to date on her shots and is spayed. Please go to Charlie’s Crusaders website (www.charliescrusaders.org) to fill out an application if interested in adding this new friend into your family. Story
Meet Rascal:  Rascal is a 4 year old Cattle Dog/Shepherd mix that weighs around 41 pounds.  Rascal was rescued from a high kill shelter a day before she was to be euthanized.  Rascal loves attention and is very sweet.  Rascal can be dog selective but has no reaction to cats. We recommend older children because Rascal is energetic and sometimes jumps on you. Overall Rascal is a nice girl...just needs some work and stability. Rascal is house and crate trained but needs some work on her leash walking. Rascal will need a fenced in yard where she can run and a family that is very active and experienced. Rascal will make a great dog in the right home. Rascal is up to date on all her shots and spayed. If you were interested in adopting this sweet girl, please go to our website at charliescrusaders.org and fill out our adoption application. Story
Current Location: Nokesville, VA Hello there! My name is Winter, and I’m as magical as my name suggests ❄️🐾 I arrived at my OPH foster home on 2/18. I'm settling in and showing everyone just how sweet, playful, and snuggly I am. Be sure to check back for updates on my blossoming personality and, of course, plenty of adorable photos! A Little About Me… I’m a happy, curious puppy who loves to play ball! Toss it once, and I’ll be your biggest fan forever. Fetch time is the best time, especially when I get to celebrate with tail wags and puppy zoomies. I’m also a very special girl because I’m deaf — but don’t worry, that just means I’m learning the world in my own amazing way. I’m currently working hard to learn hand signals, and I’m super smart! With patience, love, and consistency, I’ll pick them up in no time. If you’d like to learn more about the joys of living with and training a deaf dog, check out Deaf Dogs Rock — they have wonderful resources and inspiration. I’m Searching For… 🐾 A patient home where I won’t be left alone for more than about four hours (at least until I’m older). I’m still a puppy, which means if I get bored or lonely, I might accidentally make “creative decorating choices.” I promise I’m not naughty — just young! 🐾 A forever family — not a “for right now” family. As I grow, I’ll need guidance, structure, and lots of encouragement to become the very best dog I can be. Teaching me tricks like sit, stay, and come (with hand signals!) would be so much fun. Professional training would help us bond and set us up for success together. 🐾 And most importantly… love. I’m dreaming of a mom or dad who will snuggle with me, play ball with me, cheer me on while I learn, and love me forever and ever. I’m ready for my happily-ever-after. Could that be with you? If so, don’t wait — this kind of sweetness (and cuteness!) won’t be available for long. 💕
