Story
We adopted Cooper from a family friend about 3 years ago who could longer take care of him. It took him a few days to feel safe and comfortable around other animals (we already had a cat and another dog—a lab) but once he realized he was safe, he was happy! We have had no issues with Cooper until we had a baby. Cooper became very anxious around her, and over time as our baby got bigger, that anxiety has turned to aggression (growling, bearing teeth, attempting to bite). Now with another little one on the way and with our first child becoming more mobile, we need to find a home for Cooper where there are no small children. He is a sweet, loving boy who loves to be outdoors! Looking for a child-free home where Cooper can feel safe, loved, and welcomed. (He is 9 years old)

Story
Meet Sheesh, a one-year-old pup whose unique personality perplexed her foster mom until she received the breed results — border collie and Labrador retriever!  Sheesh’s hobbies are all lab. She loves playing fetch and brings the ball back consistently.  Sheesh also loves water and will go towards any source of water, whether it’s coming from a sprinkler in the neighborhood or running in a creek. She loves being outside in the rain and isn’t afraid of getting all wet. She’s so calm and easy during baths that her foster mom still bathes her in the kitchen sink even though she’s much too big for it now at 45 lbs full grown.  The border collie in Sheesh is also very apparent in how intelligent and obedient she is. Sheesh follows instructions without the need for a treat. She’ll come when you call her name and go to her crate when told to. She’s very smart and learns new skills quickly. She also has some herding tendencies and can get very focused on things like a squirrel in the yard. She’s of course energetic, but does take plenty of naps throughout the day.  Sheesh will do best in an active home with owners who want to take her on long morning walks. Sheesh loves her walks, but she can get a little too excited by other excitable dogs she encounters. She will need someone willing to work with her on this, possibly with a trainer’s help. Sheesh is very redirectable and responsive if the person walking her knows what to do.  Sheesh has been in her foster home since July 2024 and is fully potty trained, crate trained and has zero separation anxiety. She’s super friendly, happy and loving, and is friends with all the dogs in her foster home. There’s not a mean bone in her body. She even shows remarkable patience with small puppies, letting them climb all over her and chew on her beautiful, fluffy tail. Although she’s not perfect, Sheesh is a special young dog who will bring great joy to her forever family.”

Story
Poncho is one happy dog! He loves to smile and show off those cute teefs. Poncho was picked up as a puppy in the fall of 2024. His siblings were picked up several weeks before, but he would not come to people until his mom was hit by a car. He absolutely adores people now!! He's so good with kids. Poncho is great with other dogs, takes treats gently, is house trained, and LOVES to be outside! He really loves swimming amd romping in the pond. Poncho may have some border collie in him because he loves to run cows. He will need a fenced-in yard because he will chase cars. Poncho is medium size and at 18 months old as of December 2025, he shouldn't get much bigger. He's fully vetted and ready to hang out with you! Story
🐾💙 Meet Finn — Your Thoughtful Trail Buddy 💙🐾 Finn is a 6-year-old purebred Border Collie with soulful eyes and a heart full of quiet devotion. This handsome boy is looking for a peaceful home where he can truly shine. 🏡 Finn is house trained, kennel trained, and walks beautifully on leash. He’s been working hard on calmly passing other dogs on walks and would be the perfect hiking or walking companion for someone who enjoys a little adventure with a loyal shadow. 🧠 True to his breed, Finn is smart, intuitive, and deeply connected to his people. He thrives in a calm, consistent home and prefers to be the only dog. He’s great with cats and older children but isn’t a match for loud, chaotic households or young kids. 🎯 Loud noises like gunshots startle him, so a quieter, rural, or suburban setting would suit him best. Finn isn’t high maintenance—he just wants a person to bond with and a peaceful space to relax in. If you’ve been searching for a steady, affectionate companion who will reward your patience with unwavering loyalty, Finn may be your perfect match. 💙 If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at https://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/forms PLEASE MAKE NOTE- OUR DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN ALABAMA (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED), OUR DOGS TRANSPORT TO THEIR NEW FAMILIES IN RHODE ISLAND AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED. Story
Meet Mazie Mae Mazie Mae is an extraordinary young dog with an even more extraordinary story. She was sadly dumped in a park in a rough neighborhood and survived on her own for about 10 days, thanks to a kind stranger who fed her. Though she was shy and scared at first, Mazie Mae has absolutely blossomed in foster care and is now a happy, loving, and playful girl who’s ready for her forever home.Mazie Mae is curious, intelligent, and loves to explore—very true to her Border Collie roots. She would thrive with an active person or family who enjoys long walks, hikes, or outdoor play. She especially loves rope toys, balls, and even empty plastic water bottles, which she proudly turns into her favorite toys! She is great with other dogs and greets them enthusiastically—no aggression at all—she just really wants to play. Another dog in the home would be wonderful as she loves to play and burn off energy, but any canine sibling should be active enough to keep up with her playful style. Mazie Mae has no aggression toward cats, but she is very curious and may chase if a cat runs, so slow introductions and supervision are recommended. Because of her energy and herding-breed tendencies, a home with children over six is best. Mazie Mae is crate trained and goes into her crate willingly, especially at mealtime. She is still working on house training and has made huge improvements, with no recent accidents in the home. She is learning how to signal when she needs to go out and continues to get better every day.Because she can jump and climb a 6 foot fence , Mazie Mae will need a very tall fence and supervised outdoor time .Mazie Mae has no food or treat aggression toward people, but she can be a little protective of treats around other dogs. Supervised separate treat times/rewards will be needed. Overall, Mazie Mae is a loving, resilient, joyful dog who has overcome so much and still greets life with a wagging tail and a playful heart. She would be an incredible addition to the right home—one that will give her the love, structure, and activity she deserves. Mazie Mae is ready to give her whole heart to someone willing to give her a chance.Name: Mazie maeBreed: Border Collie/American Staffordshire TerrierSex: FemaleAge: 11 monthsWeight: 42.0Spayed/Neutered: Too young - Spay/Neuter Contract will be required and strictly enforced.Vaccinations: Puppy vaccines will be up to date.
