Story
ABOUT ZEUS Zeus came to HAP after his owner passed away. At 8 years old, adjusting to shelter life after living in a loving home has been challenging for him. However, once he realized we all think he’s the cutest guy, he started to warm up to the place! Zeus has become a bit of a celebrity around HAP. Our animal caretakers often take him on walks through the building, where he happily stops to greet all his human friends. In true bully breed fashion, he can be a little stubborn, he now insists on visiting his friends after his outdoor walks. What can we say? The love has become an essential part of his routine! When he’s not soaking up attention, Zeus is a laid-back, easygoing senior pup who enjoys chewing on bones and going for short, leisurely walks. He is friendly with new people, easily won over by treats, and very affectionate. He enjoys long car rides, showing off his tricks, and melting into his friends for love! Given his age and size, Zeus is a low-maintenance companion who spends most of his day lounging or napping! If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Story
ABOUT GRIM Grim is a 5-year-old Boxer mix looking for a fresh start! He came to HAP when he was found wandering as a stray in Wilmington. Despite looking for his owners, no one came for him so it's likely this pup was abandoned. While Grim was a little sad and lonely his first day at the shelter, it didn't take long for his goofy, playful personality to shine through! He loves greeting our team with big bear hugs, while loosely and gently grabbing your arm to show you all his favorite toys, seriously adorable! To help give him the attention he deserves, he has enjoyed participating in our Doggy Day Out program. Here's what one volunteer had to say about him: "Yesterday we took out Grim! A gentle giant (I swear, just give it 5-10 minutes) we had a light day with a short walk around West Canby park and explored the woods a little. Then we took a cool down walk around Lowe's where he got a ton of attention! He wasn't overly interested in people but still allowed lots of pets and met some little kids. He picked out a toy for himself and enjoyed that on his ride for a pup cup. Grim was such a gentleman the entire time. He needs a little boost getting in the car but he was happy in the back seat lounging. We were told he's dog reactive and we didn't see any dogs thankfully to test that out. He didn't react to any small wildlife in the park. I don't think he made a peep really. He really shines on a leash! His manners are impeccable. He kept the leash loose the entire time and constantly checked in with both of us." - Kelsie If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Story
Meet Girl Boss. Currently seeking: forever home. Must-haves: Water cookies (ice cubes), minimum 3 squares a day (preferably more), car rides, snuggies. Likes: curling her head over your shoulder while you hold her, sitting precariously on the edge of the couch, crying and staring at you every time you make food in the kitchen pretending like she’s starving, hoarding toys that may or may not include your shoes. Dislikes: being hungry for even a second. Girl Boss has had a tough start to life- she was found as a stray in Baltimore with a broken leg. We thought the name was fitting as she is the kinda boss that rocks pink without apology. Her fracture has healed, and as she’s rapidly getting bigger and better and we realize it is now time to find her a forever home. GB is 3 months old and utd on all her shots. She likes wrestling and snuggling with full-grown pitties, and I happen to think older dogs are perfect at raising puppies so it would be awesome if her new home had brothers or sisters. She’s all attitude but simultaneously likes nothing better than being a lapdog. If you think you can be the perfect home for GB go ahead and submit an application 3 1/2 months old UTD vaccinations, microchipped, wormed. Story
Jojo is being fostered in Illinois. She has some vision. Hi. My name is Jojo. I am a 4-year-old boxer mix. I like to think of myself as a playful happy-go-lucky gal. I may not see you well because close objects are like shadows and a little blurry to me, but I know you are there. I get along well with all the cats and dogs in my foster home. I like cats. But I may need slow introductions with little feisty dogs. But I would love to go to a home that has many friendly 4-legged buddies. I like to be active and meet people and other dogs. However, I am not too good with children because a lot of time kids either approach me too fast or gather around me, which makes me so scared that I have to give a warning snap. But I do love my walks. Even more, I love an open field that I can have all to myself so I can let out a lot of my energy. At home, I like to relax and sit at my spot while my foster daddy is doing his work. Everyday, I get to be petted and it makes me feel loved. I am housebroken. However, every once in a while, I have accidents because anxiety gets the best of me when I realize my foster dad has not been home for a while. I will do well in a home where someone is present 90-95 percent of time, perhaps with someone who works out of home or is an active retired person. Blind Dog Rescue has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.

Story
Milo is a goofy 3 1/2 year old retriever/pitty mix looking for a new home. He is house-trained, neutered, and up to date on his rabies vaccination. He knows basic verbal commands and hand signals, and is very food-motivated, which makes training easy. He can be shy at first, but once he gets to know you—especially with a few treats—he becomes an incredibly loyal, affectionate companion. He is very energetic and would benefit from an active home who can provide him with ample play time and extra attention. He is crate trained. He has also done well with cats in our experience. We are looking to rehome him ASAP and it is urgent. My name is Jacob Peluso-Vargas, and you can reach me at 646-469-6259. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, and leave a message if I am unable to get to the phone.September 1, 2026, 6:30 pm
