Story
Meet 1 1/2 year old Horace! Horace was rescued from a mennonite farm when the owners no longer wanted him. He lived on a farm and slept in a barn. He had a bad ear infection, scabby painful ears from horse flies and sadly tested positive for lyme. He was on antibiotics for a month, and his protein in his urine is perfect. He will test positive for the rest of his life, but shows no illness from the disease. Horace is neutered, up to date on shots and microchipped. He is VERY dog friendly and lives with three other dogs currently. He loves to play ball. Horace would do best in a home with another dog. He came out of his shell quickly in his foster home due to the other dogs in the home. He loves playing catch and wrestling with his favorite girl dog Zoe. He loves children but might knock them over accidentally. He weighs 75 lbs, but looking at him you might think he weighs close to 100. He has very long back legs. His foster mom calls him her little horse. Horace is still learning about personal space. He has no issues laying on top of you for love and passing out. He does not have a mean bone in his body. He would do best with a family that has another dog and a large 6 ft fenced in yard. He knows how to climb a chain link fence. He would be a great running partner! If interested in this handsome guy with a beard and a mohawk, please email us at pldpaws@gmail.com, fill out an application online at www.pldpaws.org or leave a message at 484-323-1134.

Story
Mac is very friendly, smart, curious and energetic! He is a big goofball who is eager to make friends, and learns commands quickly. He loves being right by your side, cuddling and playing. He loves other dogs and is always willing to play, loves running around outside, and loves big fluffy blankets/toys! I’m looking to re-home him due to working full time & not being able to give him the attention/playtime he deserves, due to him having a bit of separation anxiety. He also deserves much more open space to play than my small apartment with no yard can allow. He deserves the world and I want to find it for him! He was a rescue, found as a stray in Philadelphia.

Story
Shandy Female Boxer mix 60lbs 7 years old Good with older children Good with bigger dogs after careful introduction Not recommended with cats or small dogs Appropriate for city living? No Recognize Shandy? This is her second time looking for a home through Finding Shelter but through no fault of her own! Shandy is a loving, loyal, happy, protective dog. She loves the people she considers family with all of her heart, but she gets anxious on a leash sometimes when new people approach quickly. Unfortunately, in the first home that adopted her, Shandy was permitted to interact with a child who approached her while she was on a walk and she nipped the child. Not her fault, not the child’s fault. Despite supporting all our adoptions with a lifetime of behavioral consultations and advice from our trainer, we were not notified of any issues or the bite until two weeks before her adopters were moving and wanted to return her. Behavior and management help was offered and declined. Thankfully, Shandy is pretty much the same dog we have always known and loved she was just incredibly depressed to be without a family again. Dogs know what they are missing when they lose their homes and Shandy is no exception. She knows that she lost what we all thought was her family forever but for Shandy not all hope is lost. Shandy needs a very experienced and dog savvy home with people 100% committed to working with her and properly managing her at home and outside of her home. She is a good dog she just unfortunately had some very back luck. It’s time to turn that luck around. Will you be her lucky charm? www.findingshelter.org

Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a question that is not covered in the bio, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/. Please note that because all of our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be about an hour of Wilmington, DE in order for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in person home visit. Meet Roscoe! One look into those dreamy eyes will have you asking for more! We were so happy to be able to step up and help him when he needed us most! Roscoe came to us from a partner where he lingered month after month without any interest. We just couldn’t say no to that face! Approximately 11yrs old, 65ish lbs, and a Boxer/mix breed - we were determined to intervene and give him a second chance. While under our care, he received a much needed dental to help with his very painful mouth, and the removal of a low grade cancerous mass. Luckily his post op biopsy also revealed he had clean margins from this removal - which means extra monitoring for any new lumps or bumps that may pop up in his future. His bloodwork showed some age related values that also, at this time, require no treatment -just monitoring. We started him on arthritis meds which have really improved his mobility. Their cost is approximately $50/month. Although Roscoe does have some mild separation anxiety, he is a VERY calm and laid back guy. For this reason we believe his ideal home would be with a family or individual who is home more than not , and will continue to work with his down time. a home that has a quiet environment , and has teenage or older family members. He is not an apartment or condo dog, as he may bark when left alone, but is very content and quiet when he shares space with other calm canine AND feline friends ! Roscoe is housebroken when he is maintained on a routine schedule. He favorite things to do - he plays hard for about 15 seconds twice a week - loves car rides, short strolls around the block, and napping on the couch Dislikes - being told he can’t snack out of the litter box, and not being able to hang out with his humans ! If you’re in need of a co-pilot to help you run errands , or have an extra space for a snuggler on the couch- Roscoe is your guy!
