Story
Benny is an oh so darn cute pup born around April of 2023. We think he is a Pitt/Border Collie mix. Look at those markings! He has black and white complete with speckles. Such a striking looking boy! We love the way one eye has a black patch and the other has a white. He's the ying and yang of dogs. Benny is a nice size, 40 lbs. He's muscular and well formed, a healthy boy. He has a playful attitude and likes other dogs. He has good dog skills and not a mean bone in his body. He's happy go lucky and always ready for some fun. His favorite playmate is a Husky who has his energy level and strength. He lives with older, smaller dogs too and is fine to leave them alone when they don't want to play. Benny lives at a pet hotel and meets new dogs regularly. We can see the Border Collie in Benny in the focused way he chases his toys. He gets low to the ground with intense focus to retrieve the toy. He is ecstatic when gets the toy and brings it back to his foster mom. He prances around the yard with utter joy and satisfaction. His toy and food motivation allows his foster mom to exercise him properly without having to run a marathon. His foster mom is no spring chicken; jogging is out of the question for her. Benny is very athletic and strong. He needs an experienced owner who enforces rules with consistency and kindness. Rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat. We don't recommend Benny to a family with small children; he is too strong and too much of a puppy still. While Benny is excellent in his crate and has never had an accident, he would not be happy in a home where he spends the better part of a day in his crate. He needs activity, both mind and body. Benny came to us with zero manners! He was dumped on a windy country road after the local shelter explained to his owner that they didn't have room for him. It's clear that his human was heartless and didn't spend any time with Benny teaching him to be a good boy. That's alright, his foster mom is teaching him how to live in the human world. Fortunately, Benny is eager to learn and eager to please. This is going to be a stellar boy. Benny learns quickly and already knows the following: sit, wait, toy, go night night, off, AH-AH, watch me, ok. Here are the Pros and Cons of Benny in a nut shell: Pros: Good disposition, happy boy Loves to fetch, play with toys (learning to drop it) Smart Eager to please Eager to learn Loves people and other dogs Crate trained-never had an accident Energetic Loving Very healthy Low shed NO smell (like the Mr Clean Magic Eraser- dirt on paws become clean without bathing! Like magic!) Cons: Puppy brain Doesn't know how strong he is Mouthy Doesn't understand the human world- yet Loves to chew- anything and everything Easily excited **Adoption fee $175 includes spay/neuter, vet visits, deworming, and shots. ** Adoption Application: mercyrescue.org
