Story
Ernie is our distinguished senior Cane Corso who clearly didn't get the memo about taking iteasy. This handsome dude's got main character energy, full of pep in his step, tail waggingnonstop, and always ready to play fetch like he's training for the big leagues. He's a gentle giant who sometimes forgets he's, well... giant. But don't worry! He's as sweet as they come, with the biggest heart of course! Ernie's potty-trained, food-motivated (those treats get the mild nubby chomp treatment â&#194&#128&#194&#148 he's missing a few teef, but he makes it work), and walks like a dream on a leash. When playtime's over, Ernie's all about the affection. He loves rolling over for belly rubs, soaking up head scratches, and reminding everyone that age is just a number when you've got this much love to give.He needs a slow introduction with other dogs since we're still learning his social style, but withpatience and the right buddy, he could learn to make friends. If you're looking for a loyal, goofy, affectionate big boy who'll bring laughter, joy, and love to your home, Ernie's ready to fetch your heart (and your treats)! All animals are up-to-date on vaccinations (including rabies if over 4 months old), microchipped, and spayed or neutered. All dogs have been been vaccinated with DHPP and Bordatella (kennel cough) and heartworm tested negative (if over 6 months).    All cats have been vaccinated with FVRCP and current on flea control. Story
Meet Money Bag — A Big, Loving Goofball Ready for His Glow-UpMoney Bag is a two-year-old sweetheart with a huge personality and an even bigger heart. He recently went on a Doggie Day Out and showed just how friendly, people-loving, and eager-to-please he is. He may be strong (and he knows it!), but he’s also affectionate, social, and incredibly food-motivated — which makes him a fun, trainable companion.During his outing, Money Bag was excited to explore and sniff everything in sight. He does pull on leash, so he’ll benefit from a handler who can guide his strength and help him continue learning good walking manners. With a little redirection, he settles nicely and enjoys taking breaks to relax and lay down beside his person.Money Bag loves meeting new people and is gentle and polite with strangers. He happily offered kisses, leaned in for affection, and soaked up all the attention he could get. After enjoying some treats (and even leftover Thanksgiving turkey!), he perked up with a little extra silliness — hopping onto benches and chairs to be closer to his humans. He showed lots of curiosity about other dogs, whimpering softly in hopes of making friends. With careful, slow introductions, he may do well with dog buddies. He was a little unsure about a collapsible water bottle but drank fine from regular bowls, and once in the car, he settled in calmly for the ride.Money Bag spent his day exploring McKinley Park, the Rose Garden, and Midtown strolls, charming everyone along the way. He’s thin in his hind end right now, but with regular meals, love, and stability, he’s sure to fill out and thrive. If you’re looking for a goofy, affectionate, food-loving adventure buddy who will reward you with loyalty and kisses, Money Bag might be the perfect dog to help start his next chapter.

Story
Ziggy is a 1-year-old boy who is absolutely terrified in the shelter. The noise and chaos are overwhelming for him, and it’s heartbreaking to see such a gentle soul so scared. Even through his fear, Ziggy shows how sweet he truly is — he will allow you to leash him, and once on a walk he stays right by your side. When he gets scared, he may stop, but he never pulls. If Ziggy is brave enough to take a treat, he does so with the softest, most gentle mouth. And when he begins to trust you, this boy completely melts, leaning into you and curling up in your lap as if he’s been waiting for safety his whole life.Ziggy is dog friendly and desperately needs out of the shelter so he can decompress and learn what it feels like to be safe. He does have cherry eyes — a cosmetic condition — which sadly may make it harder for him to get noticed, but it does not define the incredible companion he can be.With time, patience, and love, Ziggy will blossom into the most loyal, loving champion anyone could ever ask for. He just needs someone to see him.

Story
Sweet Bonnie - a petite Cane Corso - finds herself in urgent need of a foster or adoptive home as her mama is dying of cancer and can no longer care for her. House Hippo Rescue would love nothing more than to ensure this sweet doggie gets a home, even if only temporary, for the holidays. She is absolute doll - gentle with kitties, good with dogs, housebroken, and mostly crate trained. (She hasn't been around kids that we know of, but don't foresee problems, particularly with older kids.) She has no health issues, is spayed, and up to date on her vaccines. She is protective as is typical of the breed and is working with a trainer to improve her socialization skills as she has some fear of busy places and chaos, but she's making GREAT strides and just needs a confident handler. She's a lovely dog. Located in Northern California but transport can be arranged for the right home! If you're interested in being a committed foster, we cover all expenses. To apply to adopt please do NOT inquiry via adoptapet, you must fill out an application at https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/HHRC/Dog and we will get back to you within 72 hours. (Please do NOT submit an inquiry via Adoptapet - we are not able to view or respond to such inquiries.) If you have any issues filling out the application, please email us at admin@househipporescue.org and we can email you a copy.

Story
Meet Sasha – A Loyal Heart in Search of a New Home Hello dear reader — My name is Sasha. I’m a gentle and well-mannered Anatolian Shepherd mix with a heart as warm as the sunbeam I love to nap in. My beloved human recently passed on, and now I’m looking for someone kind (maybe a bit like Mary Poppins?) who might open their home and heart to me. I’m a devoted companion — I’ll give a bark when someone new approaches, just to keep you safe, but once you tell me all is well, I’ll settle down and go right back to lounging peacefully. I’m fully up to date on my shots and in good health. I enjoy company, I am docile and sweet and  I’m also quite content having some quiet time alone if you need to step out. I eat at my own pace and appreciate a full water bowl nearby. Mostly, I’d love a gentle hand, a soft place to sleep, and someone who will check in on me now and then — just to say hello. If you’re looking for a loving, calm, and faithful friend, I’m right here, waiting — With gratitude and tail wags, Sasha (Please contact my caretakers to meet me and see if we might be just right for each other.)   Please reach out to: bill.brandt@asu.edu if you are interested in meeting Sasha.  All animals are up-to-date on vaccinations (including rabies if over 4 months old), microchipped, and spayed or neutered.
