Story
Beautiful, big (80 lbs.), sweet PJ, as described by a volunteer:“Cutest smile, a gem to walk, rolled in the grass, has wonderful manners. The best.”And by another: “I love PJ. She was so easy to walk for me yesterday.”And another: `Just met PJ for the first time and I'm obsessed.”Another volunteer described PJ after spending a few hours with her:Very mellow and loved playing with toys. Great during her bath and even let me dry her. Very gentle.Once inside, she found a spot and lay down. Easily went into the crate. Had no potty accidents. And to back that all up, her day-trip foster had the following to report:I took PJ on a day out yesterday and we had a great time! All hyper to be heading out, but she calmed down to get her harness on. She was SO excited to hop into my back seat and completely relaxed in the car. She did great at the Starbucks drive-thru and was very gentle with her pup cup. We stopped by my apartment and she got a little nervous going up some concrete stairs, but she was very brave and tried on her own a few times! She was perfectly behaved meeting other adults in the complex, rolling on her back and accepting lots of treats. She is also so SMART! She is very food motivated and is working on learning recall, wait, down, paw, and roll over. She already has a great sit! (see photos below). In Central Park, she was fine passing by dogs but got pretty excited seeing small animals and children pass by. She got tired after all of the activities and decided to lay down on the sidewalk a few times. _______________PJ would be a great dog with an adopter who understands the breed since she is young. To meet this gentle giant, please go to yoloshelter.org/dogs to make an appointment, or email adopt@yoloshelter.orgMay 17, 2026, 5:24 pm

Story
Meet Joey — a 4yo, 78lb brindle Cane Corso guy who is finally available and looking for a fresh start.Joey has built quite the fan club among volunteers and staff who have spent time with him. He’s smart, engaging, affectionate with his people, and full of personality. Once he trusts you, his silly side comes out, and he genuinely enjoys working and connecting with his handlers. He’s incredibly affectionate and absolutely loves to give hugs.At this time, Joey requires an adult-only home, not because he has ever shown aggression toward people, but because he is a big, strong dog who can get excited and physically overwhelming at times. He will need to be the only dog in the home, as he struggles with his dog-to-dog social skills and will do best without the stress of sharing space with other animals.Shelter life has been hard on Joey, but despite that, he continues to build trusting relationships with experienced handlers and show that he is capable of learning, bonding, and making a ton of progress. What he needs now is someone willing to see the dog behind the kennel door and give him the opportunity he deserves.Staff consultation is required prior to adoption to help ensure the best possible match and set Joey and his future family up for success. Joey is currently housed in a building inaccessible to the public, so please ask to meet him!

Story
***Special Needs Dog*** Romeo is a stunning, sweet, goofy boy with luscious jowls and the most soulful eyes you've ever seen. True to his name, this boy is 100 percent pure LOVER. He loves to be snuggled and pet. Despite his young age, Romeo is a gentle boy with medium energy. He has tested well with small dogs, big dogs (although he doesn't seem to like huskies), kids, and even ignores cats. He came to us quite underweight and still needs to gain some more - he should probably be around 115 or 120. Sadly, Romeo has some neurological problems, and we are still figuring out what they are. He's a bit wobbly, quite clumsy, and falls down here and there. HHR is covering all the costs of his treatment while a complete diagnosis and treatment plan is being developed, so right now we are looking for a dedicated foster or foster-to-adopt. Romeo is being seen and treated by the top neurologist at UC Davis, and his MRI showed that it may just be a treatable infection. However, he will need to be monitored and have follow-up tests to make sure the infection has cleared, and, at this point, we don't know how much of his symptoms can be ameliorated. He is truly a happy happy boy though and to anyone who didn't know him, they would just think he's clumsy. His condition is no way life threatening, but it will need to be managed (no steep stairs or rough play for this boy). Romeo is neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on his vaccines. To meet him in person, please fill out an adoption application. If you are using Adopt-a-Pet, you may click on the "Apply Online" button. If you are visiting us on Petfinder or other websites, please copy & paste this link: https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/HHRC/Dog or apply directly on our website at househipporescue.org. We will get back to you within 72 hours. If you have general questions about that are not answered in the above bio, please email admin@househipporescue.org and we will be happy to answer them!

Story
WHAT IS YOUR NAME? I am Amira! ARE YOU A BOY OR A GIRL? I’m a a lovely lady! HOW OLD ARE YOU? I was born in March 2022. WHAT BREED ARE YOU? Cane Corso HOW MUCH DO YOU WEIGH? I’m a perfectly-proportioned 80 pounds of fabulous! WHAT DO YOU LOOK LIKE? I have a beautiful soft grey coat with soulful eyes. WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO EAT? I like my kibble just fine, but, oh boy, do I love Nubz and any treats I can convince my humans to give me! WHAT KIND OF PERSONALITY DO YOU HAVE? I’m extremely playful and loyal. I love being near my human as much as possible. I especially love playing fetch or getting to chase after my foster brother. We have so much fun together! DESCRIBE YOUR PERFECT DAY: I like to wake up nice and early, as I’m always excited for breakfast. Then I savor my leisurely schedule with a nice long bone-chewing session. As long as I get some playtime, cuddles, and a good walk, I don’t mind what order it’s in…I just want to be with you as much as possible. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE TOY? Oh, the MOST fun toy for me is my Kong ball! I have so much fun chasing it around! DO YOU KNOW ANY TRICKS? Sit, Down, Shake and I’m working on Stay. My foster mom says I’m SUCH a smart girl! WHAT SCARES YOU? I’m scared of being left alone, so I cry when my human leaves me alone. But I’m starting to get more comfortable being alone knowing that it’s not for long. And I am also not a fan of fireworks…Big booms in the sky? No, thank you! HAVE YOU BEEN AROUND CHILDREN? I’ve met a few kids and they seem nice, but I’m a big girl so I think my excitement might be a little much for small kids. Older children only, please! DO YOU LIKE CATS? I see them on walks and they look fun to chase. I think I’ll pass on them as a playmate, though! HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT OTHER DOGS? I love hanging out and playing with my foster brother. I wasn’t so sure about him at first, but now he’s my best friend. With slow introductions, I will make friends just fine. Please set me up for success! IF YOU COULD BE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, WHERE WOULD IT BE? Right next to my human. I’m very loyal and lovable, so wherever you are sounds good to me! HOW IS YOUR HEALTH? I am strong and healthy. Foster mom says I am perfect… and I think foster mom is absolutely right about that! WHO DO YOU LIVE WITH IN YOUR FOSTER HOME AND WHO IS YOUR CLOSEST COMPANION? I live with my foster mom, her brother, and my 100-pound pit bull brother. I love them all, but foster mom is my favorite. WHERE DO YOU HANG OUT WHEN YOU ARE HOME ALONE? I really don’t like being left alone, but I am safe in my crate when foster mom needs to go out. WHERE DO YOU SLEEP? I am a good girl sleeping in my cozy crate overnight. DO YOU LIKE WALKING ON A LEASH? Yes, I love walks and am SUCH a good girl on leash! I need to be reminded of my manners sometimes because there are so many interesting things to see out in the world and I get a little excited! DO YOU HAVE ANY “NOT SO GREAT” HABITS THAT WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT? I get anxious when I get left in my crate, so I scratch and lick at the sides too much sometimes. ARE YOU HOUSE TRAINED (DO YOU GO POTTY OUTSIDE)? Yes, I haven’t had a single accident in the house! DO YOU LIKE WATER? The rain is not for me, but I am a very good girl in the bath. I actually enjoy them! WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT YOUR FOSTER FAMILY? They spoil me with treats and cuddles, I get lots of time to play with my foster brother and there’s always a bone to chew on when I get tired. Also, we have a great neighborhood for long walks, which is so much fun for me! Oh…and my foster mom even takes me on car rides to get these things called pup cups! Yummy! WHAT WAS YOUR LIFE LIKE BEFORE BEING BROUGHT INTO NORCAL BULLY BREED RESCUE? My owner got pretty sick and couldn’t take care of me anymore, so I had to go to the shelter. Luckily, NorCal Bully Breed Rescue got me out of there and took me to a wonderful foster home. Now it is time for me to find a home of my own where I will be loved for the rest of my life! I would really love to meet you and come home with you! Sounds amazing, right? **AMIRA’s ADOPTION FEE IS $100** If you are interested in AMIRA, please jump on our website and fill out an adoption application - www.norcalbullybreedrescue.org At this time we are asking for adopters to be in the Sacramento and IMMEDIATE surrounding areas.
