Story
Its hard to believe but Pepper arrived at our rescue over 4 years ago. She had been taken care of along with a number of other cats by a kind person who was working in rescuing a number of neighborhood cats up until the time a house fire caused her to evacuate. Most of the cats were rescued and brought to our rescue where they were eventually adopted into loving homes. Pepper presented as the most challenging of the group as she was extremely wary of people. For a long time, Pepper steered as clear of people as she could; however, she has made some progress. She will come and play with her favorite toys and on occasion will allow limited petting. Pepper requires a home with experienced cat people who understand her fear and allow her to be Pepper. She has been vet checked, has tested negative for feline leukemia and FIV, is spayed and is up to date on her vaccinations. During her time at our rescue, Pepper has seen and interacted with many cats and seems to get along fine with all. She has never been observed with dogs. If you are interested in meeting Pepper and believe you can provide the type of home she needs, please visit animaladvocates.net and complete an interest in adoption application.May 4, 2024, 9:59 am

Story
Atlas was rescued after being abandoned in an apartment.  The leasing agent was running out of time to remove Atlas from the property - the next step being to release outside or contact animal control for removal and euthanasia.  Within 24 hours of receiving the intake request, an Animal Advocates volunteer arrived at the residency finding Atlas trembling amongst chaos and regrettable conditions.  Sadly, Atlas has been diagnosed with several congenital heart conditions, including pulmonary stenosis, a septal defect, thickening of the heart wall and aorta malformation.  He is on a twice-daily medication to help keep his condition in check.   Currently all blood work is within normal range and Atlas is not presenting with symptoms of heart failure. A definitive prognosis is uncertain and the veterinary team providing his care cannot predict what his lifespan will be.   While Atlas's history and future are uncertain, one thing is known - he is an absolute love.  Atlas wants nothing more than to sit and snuggle with a person and enjoy a sunny, warm window.  He purrs almost constantly and is extremely affectionate. Atlas's birthday is approximated in 2020.  He has plush black and white fur and long white whiskers. Atlas is tested negative for FIV/Felv/HW.  At this time, Animal Advocates is seeking a long term foster or forever home who can help provide careful monitoring and administer a daily medication routine.  The team recognizes a low-stress environment in which the caregiver is consistent and frequently present is the ideal.  Atlas has not been observed around dogs or directly interacted with the other cats at the rescue, though we surmise he would be comfortable with another laidback feline.   As a volunteer-foster, all expenses, supplies and other support are provided by the rescue.  If you have questions or are able to help Atlas, please contact Animal Advocates at: animaladvocatespgh294@gmail.com or 412-928-9777. May 4, 2024, 9:59 am

Story
When Ellie came to our rescue, she was so scared she spent many weeks holed up in a kitty condo coming out only to eat and use the litter box. Patient volunteers finally convinced her that she was in a safe and loving environment and she is now out and about and seeking attention from all. Ellie will make a wonderful addition to a family with the patience to show her that she is now in her forever home. Ellie's birthday is in October 2009. She has distinctive calico markings and light green eyes. She has tested negative for feline leukemia and FIV, been spayed and is up-to-date on vaccinations and other veterinarian care. If you are interested in meeting Ellie, the first step is to complete an online application on the website under the "Adopt" menu at www.animaladvocates.net.  At 15 years old, Ellie is eligible for the Senior to Senior foster program.  In the program senior animals are connected with senior citizens in the community who are interesting in caring for a pet.  For more information on the foster program, visit the website or email animaladvocatespgh294@gmail.com .   Thank you for considering a rescue cat from Animal Advocates!May 4, 2024, 9:59 am

Story
This young lady was seen scrounging food from a waste bin in a residential neighborhood with her kitten and pal Harvey. Neighbors alerted Animal Advocates' volunteers who set a trap and caught the crew the first night. At first hesitant and wary of new environments, Peony is slowly learning people are safe and life indoors is easy living! Peony enjoys siting on the the enclosed "catio" and hanging with the other felines at the rescue - especially her pal Harvey.  Peony protects and assures Harvey, and increasingly friendly Harvey helps spicy Peony realize that people aren't so bad!  Peony has soft grey tabby fur and bright green eyes.  Her birthday is estimated in August 2021.  She has tested negative for feline leukemia and FIV, vaccinated as well as spayed and microchipped. Peony will take time to adjust to any new situation.  An experienced and patient caregiver will be best, one who will accept Peony for the cat she is and help her to blossom in a stable home. To meet Peony visit www.animaladvocates.net and complete an adoption application (located under the "Adopt" menu). A discounted adoption fee is offered when considering bringing home two cats.  Thank you for considering a rescue cat from Animal Advocates!May 4, 2024, 9:59 am
