Story
Kona is adorable with a capital "A"! Kona is estimated to be around 3-4 months old and has a big personality in a tiny package. She is a true diva who knows that she deserves to be the center of attention and loves nothing more than having some fun and enjoying affection. She is very much a little lap dog and is happiest when she can be cuddled up to someone, especially when naptime rolls around. Kona weighs about 4.5lbs now, and we estimate she will be around 10-15lbs when fully grown. Kona came to us from a lovely couple who took her in after her owner couldn't care for her anymore. Unfortunately, they weren't in a position to care for a puppy, so they agreed to surrender her to us, and she has been thriving in a YCSPCA foster home. Kona is the epitome of a velcro dog and wants to always be with you, whether that means hanging on your lap while you're working or romping around in the backyard. She is in the sleep hard, play hard phase of puppyhood and needs a family who can keep up with her busy mind and body. She has a voice and is not afraid to use it, so her new family should be prepared for backtalk and negotiations when she doesn't get her way. Kona is still working on all of her basic manners and needs a family dedicated to continuing her training and socialization. She would be a great candidate for group training classes. Kona loves the other small dogs in her foster home, but can be shy with new dogs. She needs another playful small dog in her new home to help her gain confidence, and so she always has a buddy to play with. We haven't seen Kona around cats, but she may do well with dog-savvy cats with a slow introduction and proper supervision. Due to her size, she would do best with kids 10 years and older, or an adult-only home. Kona has learned how to use the dog door, but is still very much a work in progress in terms of her housetraining. Her new family will need to be patient with her while she is learning and be consistent with taking her outside and rewarding her when she goes potty outside. Kona isn't a big fan of being alone and does best being left with a dog buddy. Even then, she doesn't like it when her family is gone for long and needs a family who can be home with her often and can slowly acclimate her to being home alone for longer periods. Kona sleeps in bed with her foster parents and would love to sleep in bed with someone in her forever home. Kona is such a loving girl, and she can't wait to become your new BFF. If she sounds like the little shadow you need in your life, submit an application today!   Kona's adoption fee is $400.   Apply to adopt here!  https://form.jotform.com/52017002013129/   Applications are also available on the website (www.yolospca.org)  It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption. For more information about an animal, please email dogs@yolospca.org. Story
Who's that girl? It's Ziggy! Ziggy is estimated to be just under 2 years old and is little miss personality. She has legs for days and is a goofy girl who always finds a way to make you smile. She is the perfect mix of playful and sweet and can't wait to find her fur-ever family. Ziggy weighs about 8lbs, but is a little underweight and needs to gain more weight. Ziggy came to us from a local shelter after she was found wandering the streets as a stray. She was never claimed by an owner and was very stressed at the shelter with all the chaos. She has been thriving in foster care and has shown us she is such a fantastic gal once away from the craziness. Ziggy is a true lovebug who loves cuddles and being with her people. She will never turn down an opportunity to snuggle up with her foster family. While she loves her cuddles, she is also a ball of energy who loves to race around the yard and wrestle with her foster brother. She would do best with an active family that can keep up with her peppy personality. She is a well-mannered girl around the home, but is reactive to dogs and people while on a leash and needs a family committed to continuing her training. She is very food-motivated and quick to learn. She can be nervous when she first meets men (some more than others), but has done well living with men after a slow intro and lots of yummy treats. Ziggy loves other small dogs and became instant BFFs with her foster brother. She can sometimes get intimidated by large dogs, but could do well with a slow introduction. Ziggy has done well living with dog-savvy cats with a slow introduction and proper supervision. Ziggy has done well living with kids and could be a wonderful addition to a home with kids 7 years and older. Ziggy is housetrained, but her new family should expect a few accidents while she is adjusting to a new home and routine. She has been doing well being crated and does well in her crate when home alone and overnight. Ziggy would do best in a home with a yard. Ziggy has mild luxating patellas in both knees. She hasn't shown to be in any pain and doesn't require any treatment at this time. She may need joint support as she ages, but she is a happy and healthy girl now. Ziggy is such a happy and loving girl, and she deserves a family just as great as her. If you think that might just be you, submit an adoption application today!   Ziggy's adoption fee is $250.   Apply to adopt here!  https://form.jotform.com/52017002013129/   Applications are also available on the website (www.yolospca.org)  It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application.
